In a way I actually think Hank being out for a game or two might not be a bad thing. Lets us see what we have in Talbot, and also gives Hank a chance to get his head together and snap out of whatever slump he's in, which I'd say the injury is a part of, but how large a part we don't know.

To put it into perspective, the Rangers have following salaries out of their line-up:

Rick Nash - 7.8
Henrik Lundqvist - 6.875
Ryan Callahan - 4.275
Carl Hagelin - 2.25

Totals = 21.2 million on IR or not capable of playing

It is actually very much in the Rangers' interests to see what Talbot has got sooner rather than later.

Because if he isn't ready they need to find another option asap, even with a 100% healthy Lundqvist.

if the rangers dont pull it together and nash is in fact out for a long time then the rangers should do a deal with the oilers around girardi and yakupov. trade mdz for a first at the deadline. trade boyle for a late first or a second. sign a stopgap UFA dman this summer and promote allen or mcilrath. trash zucc, pyatt, pouliot and promote kristo and lindberg.

look at montreal (galchenyuk) last year or colorado (mackinnon), calgary (monahan), and nashville (jones) this year. a mini rebuild do a lot of good for the long-term future of this organization.

....but it wont happen with sather and dolan in charge. they are too stupid to forego short-term success in order to invest in the long run.

I really hope Talbot pans out. Would prevent having to spend an asset on a goalie.

“@AGrossRecord: Henrik Lundqvist will not play tomorrow night vs. Flyers. Jason Missiaen will back up Cam Talbot.”

“@KatieStrangESPN: #NYR Sorry, to be clear, that Lundqvist was experiencing some sort of "irritation" or nagging discomfort.”

“@KatieStrangESPN: #NYR Missiaen will back up Talbot. Alain Vigneault made referenced "irritation" with Lundqvist and indicated it's not serious”

“@AGrossRecord: AV calls Lundqvist issue "nagging" and #NYR believe they can "nip it in the bud." He played with it in 2-0 win at Washington.”

Yeah, irritated with the team in front of him and a nagging discomfort with his new pads.

Time to see what Talbot's got. An important game, because if Hank's going to be out for a while, we need to figure out if he can play or we have to sign/trade for someone.

In what world is Boyle getting a first or a second round pick? Because I'd like to live there, too.

Also, those teams and players you mentioned are all top picks. Easy to rebuild when you draft in the top 5.

And of course you have the generic blaming of the GM and owner. I blame you for a bad post.

If you've done something as simple as pulled a little muscle in your back from sleeping the wrong way, it makes the game of playing goal on the ice very hard.

A few days off can nip the problem in the bud, and you go back to playing normally.

This is what the injury sounds like. Something that just needs a few days of not doing anything strenuous.

Lets be thankful that up to this point in his career Hank has been VERY healthy. I don't think this is something we should be worrying about.

Rick Nash however? Yeah...we should be worrying.

I actually agree with your points. A package of Girardi + Kreider (?) for Yakupov would be amazing. Although MDZ is my favorite player since his first camp as a Ranger, I concur that he needs to be traded when his value is still high, he just doesn't have the IQ for AV's system :( Hope he pulls it together though. Lastly as another poster said, I doubt Boyle could get us a 2nd, much less a 1st. A 3rd is more realistic and at that price, I'd rather keep him.

Boyle would easily return a 2nd rounder at the deadline.

well considering Boyle was traded to NYR for a 3rd round pick when he was not a full time NHL player, so based on that, since he is now a full time NHL player, his value shouldnt be lower than what it used to be.. Boyle should be dealt for a low 1st or top 2ed round pick. it is not like we are talking about a top 5 overall pick although that would be very nice

Maybe that's why he's been terrible. Could be something that's been lingering in general and just needs a break.

Why do people want to trade for Yakupov, he's already been scratched this season because of his unwillingness to play both sides of the puck. I don't want these kind of guys any where near my team I don't care about there offensive potential.

I have a feeling this has been a problem for the last 3-5 games... not just the Washington game... hank played awesome in that game, but like crap in the games before and after... if he played with the problem during the caps game, I think its been a problem for a week or two now...

OR just speculation on my part, possible that hank is taking care of his contract during this little break?

lastly, I think if Nash incurs one more concussion, or if he does not produce, we should rid him and do a mini rebuild... two reasons: a) the guy does not want to go through a rebuild period again, and b) his cap hit is a monstrosity

Yes. Tank.

To clarify, when I earlier posted Nash to Colorado for Stastny +, that was the epitome of a tank trade. Tank trades aren't necessarily bad trades, just frustrating at the time. I think they need to shed that contract ASAP.

1) gaustad and a 4th fetched a 1st at the deadline 2 years ago. boyle is a big body, wins faceoffs, and plays a solid defensive game. he's a good player in the right role. he is a 4th liner, but plays middle six minutes on the rangers. his value will be highest at the deadline.

2) the rangers won't make the playoffs if they dont turn it around soon. as RB posted yesterday, it's very difficult for teams to make the playoffs if they are 4 or more points out of the 8th spot on November 1. the rangers will be without callahan for the next 3-4 weeks and without nash indefinitely. if what dreger says about nash is true, then the rangers will continue to struggle scoring goals all season. they are 30th in goals scored and close to the 30th in goals against per game (4.14). they are blown out almost every game.

girardi will be asking for a big raise on a long-term deal. trade him for a younger, cheaper player who has potential. combine the injuries, terrible play and loss of girardi, the rangers should be able to get a top-5 pick.

3) read nate silver's piece on why a canadian team hasnt won the cup in 20 years. the same applies to the rangers. dolan wants that playoff revenue. when the rangers are on the bubble, they sell futures for immediate help. they make the playoffs and lose in the first round or miss the playoffs but get the 10th overall pick. as a result, they never draft top-end talent and must resort to spending big bucks on UFAs and shedding assets for star players. mediocrity starts at the top.

take your attitude elsewhere.

Henrik hasn't practiced these 3 days this week. The team was off Sunday. He will travel with the team to Philly. Are they going from Philly to Detroit or are they coming back to NY on Thursday night? Is Henrik playing in Detroit? Doesn't seem likely. The Rangers always struggle in Detroit. Maybe he can play in home opener on Monday. Tuesday night on Long Island.

Doesn't work that way. At the time Boyle was on his entry level contract which would result in him being a restricted free agent, meaning he would be basically bound to the Rangers for years if they wanted him.

Boyle is now a UFA at the end of the season, meaning he's a pure rental for any team that trades for him.

A more valid comparison is Michal Handzus, who in the same situation last season (a UFA at the end of the season) returned a fourth round draft pick.
