Knowing that he has 2 concussions in close proximity, who would want to take the risk?

$7.8 M for the next 5 years is a tough pill to swallow for the bidding team.

Trade him to Colorado for Stastny+. If Stastny works out resign him if not aloha cap space.

Maybe Torts wants him back?

Its too bad Ottawa has a cheap owner because he could fit there as well.

Have to be aggressive here

I think he should be traded a concussion to early instead of a concussion too late. I really don't this there is any such thing as a mild concussion, and once they stack up forget about it. He really should be traded. I sure he doesn't want to stick around for another rebuild either. They still can get a good package for Nash now, if they wait its going to become another bad contract the Rangers are saddled with. Need to have some foresight here.

Might as well trade away everyone and close up shop since every player with a brain inside their skull is susceptible to concussions, god forbid but any player on this team could get hit in the head Thursday and have their career ended by a serious concussion, Sauer is exhibit A, the notion that the rangers are going to trade this guy because he's had two concussions in the last year, three in the last decade if you want to get all dramatic like gross, is utterly ridiculous.

Just posing a question, not pushing for it....... say Nash misses the whole season and things are still up in the air after after after the season.... if Rishards continious to exel without any signs of slowing downs .....do you Amnesty Nash with the question mark and save the 7.8 and take a chance that Richards conntinuos his his season avg or not

Think that is an old way of thinking. In the new NHL you can't have almost 8 million dollars a season tied into someone who can't play. Players like Nash, their value does not go up, especially if all of a sudden they start getting concussions.

The team could possibly be on the brink of rebuilding and we all saw how building a team around Nash went in Columbus, (yes the blue jackets had other problems). I do think two publicized concussions in two years is certainly a big deal. I don't think the Rangers should feel any obligation to keep Nash at all and should trade him to replenish assets. That contract is a borderline albatross already and concussions can turn a player into mush real quick. If he was making less money I would be more open to seeing how his health improves, but another concussion not only kills the Ranger season, it ruins Nash trade value. Risky game to play knowing you can't bury him in Hartford and you have to save the amnesty for Richards.

You have to amnesty Richards due to the cap recapture.

Gross explained in his article that if Nash has to retire due to his concussions the cap recapture is much less severe. I would be trying extremely hard to trade Nash by the deadline for this reason.

what i was saying is would it be worth the risk keeping Richards for the duration of the contract if he shows he can play at an elite level still.....we dont know for sure that he'll def retire before its up which would then kick in the recapture.....theres quite a few guys still playing at a high level older then richards would be at the end of the contract....people say he'll retire cause he wont wanna play for the peanuts he'll be paid at the end.....but in the end hes a gamr....loves to play.....whos to say that being he already cashed in he wont honer the contract just for the love of still playing..... i mean 1 mill is still 1 mill....why would he retireif he still loves the game and still gets 1 mill on top of everything he made already .....not pushing for it.....just thinking outloud.....obv this all depends on him keeping his pace and showing no signs of slowing alll yr and nash mising the full season and showing no signs of progress

Nash will not retire early due to injury. If he is too banged up to finish out his contract the Rangers will put him on LTIR, to the interest of both Nash and the team: Nash continues to get paid and the team clears itself of his cap hit during the season.

It seemed like a foregone conclusion that the team would buy out Richards at the end of this season regardless of performance. Now I have a feeling it will depend on how extension talks go with all of our pending UFAs and RFAs and what direction Sather/Gorton want to take the organization. Very rarely does management have the opportunity to decide during one offseason whether to stay the course or hit the reset button.

Pretty sure you can't amnesty someone who's hurt.

If the Rangers trade Nash for Stastny they might as well trade every other veteran player because that is such a massive downgrade they will not be remotely competitive for a good while. That's a "tank" trade.

Yeah, that's a lousy trade for both teams, honestly. No idea why Colorado would want to disrupt what they have there. That's a group of kids playing for each other. It'll probably sputter out eventually, but the kind of run they're having is immensely important for rebuilding teams. They're showing themselves that they can win. Not like Edmonton that was praised for losing the "right way" with all of that draft hype and that dumb TV series.

Which is probably why the Hank contract is taking so long? You don't want to resign him if that button is hit... unless he takes a cap friendly contract and you plan on dealing him. As a rental he'd still fetch a damn good return (for a rental) but not nearly as much as he would on a good deal.

Jesus, that was a depressing thought.

Definitely, kudos to the Avs. They have been fun to watch. That is a good example of a group who has come up together, as well as again the importance of balancing skill and grit. Obviously they've had their share of top picks and their talent speaks for itself. But finding a player like ROR in the 2nd is what puts teams over the top so to speak - as much as the team picking 1st overall last year could be "over the top." Making a smart (yet aggressive) trade for a young, cheap, talented backup goalie.

They have very good, skilled young forwards on that roster, but they also knew the importance of adding guys who add some aggressive play. It sets the tone that they aren't going to be pushed around and will dictate the play. Bordeleau, McLeod, McGinn, Downie. They have guys who are more than willing to drop the gloves with anyone.

Definitely. Was trying to say that with my "skill/grit" balance comment but you said it better. Lots of teams around the league seem to play better with an aggressive "chip on their shoulder" mentality.

Yeah they made some very shrewd moves, and that '09 draft was fantastic for them. Duchene and ROR are phenomenal players, and Barrie and Elliot look like very good pieces moving forward. They've also done a good job surrounding those kids with character guys who will ensure that they know someone always has their back.

I think they're a year and one really solid defender away from being a playoff team.

I think so too and I think that happens this off-season. I wouldn't be surprised if they go hard after Girardi if he hits UFA.

“@KatieStrangESPN: #NYR Lundqvist not on the ice. Will be third straight day he misses practice with what the Rangers are calling a "minor issue"”

“@stevezipay: Lundqvist not on ice; if he doesn't practice I'd assume Talbot will make NHL debut tomorrow”

Honestly, we all knew this was going to happen at some point. Hopefully it's nothing more than a few more days of rest for him

Yep. The guy has been remarkably healthy during his career here. It was inevitable that he'd get injured at some point. Still, until he misses more than one game, I'm not going to worry too much.
