Yeah. Honestly, I would have rather kept Mashinter. He's a better AHL player for sure.

I am not going to be sloppy and put my foot down without having seen Beach in HFD, but when I saw this move my first thought was -- this is not a sign of a well managed organization.

For one reason and one reason only, why would Beach have more potential than Mashinter?

A deal was made in what early December late November 2013. One player for the other. From what I've seen in 2013, Mashinter the player was closer to become a good NHLer and had to develop less to get there than Beach. I saw very little of Beach in Sweden, he could have been hurt/jet-lagged or whatever, tired from playing on the big ice. But I saw almost no potential in him. I was high on him after seing his description and seing him falling out of favor in Chicago. Sometimes a kid like that really just needs a change of scenario. Boyle in LA is a good example. In LA he aimed at becoming a top 2 line forward, when he got here he really just started in his career to set out a goal of sticking in the league and helping his team in the ways that he could. But when I saw him play in Sweden (for a very limited times), I definitely went like "yikes he is not a better player than this?"

Did we make this trade because of how Beach matched up against his peers, in a not that extremely competetive junior league, with specific teammates, like 4-5 years ago?

When was the last time someone sat down and looked at Beach the player and thought, hey this kid could become a NHLer? I mean, there are players with potential out there. There always is. The jump between the AHL and the NHL aint that big anymore. I think a big part of things right now is to be able to really do a good job with brining a kid along, and have a position and role for the said that kid that fits him and put up goals that are reachable and develop someone long term within those set frames. From my point of view, it would be realstic to set out to make a Beach a decent/good AHLer if Beach was willing to work 110% with that goal in mind. To turn him into a decent NHLer did not seem realistic at all.

This trade just screams strow stuff at the wall and see if it sticks type of thinking. Instead of someone doing what they are paid to do.

Good luck in the AHL Beach, hopefully he is a late late bloomer.

All indications seem to be that he was a really early bloomer...

The WHL is very competitive for his age group. It's not like a 18 year old who makes the top team in Sweden or Russia for sure--though there's really not a lot of 18 year olds doing that but the CHL leagues mimic the NHL in things like length of season. There are lots of long bus rides--lots of hitting and fighting--lots of good players come out of the WHL. It's a real grind to play in those leagues.

The problem with Beach as far as I can tell is he stopped progressing about 3 years ago. It seems to have been a topic of Blackhawk fans for a while that he's peaked and he's not getting better. As for Mashinter he's limited. Going by his AHL stats he's not just a goon--he actually can score--be part of the play. We haven't really seen that when he's been called up--but his ice time has been very limited when we've had him in our lineup. He's a 4th line guy at best who is a fairly decent but not always frequent fighter. He's getting older so his future chances to make that kind of mark for himself are not great.

How do I feel about this deal?--kind of blah. It might not have been a smart move but it looks to have very little impact on our club this year.

Yeah I agree, I just ment in the sense that the competition isn't as good that scoring in a league like that really tells you all that much. Beach had an awsome year in the WHL, right? 40+40 or something like that IIRC.

I hardly think this move is make or break in any way either. It just screams that we are "gambling" instead of putting in the hrs though...

Calder Cup here we come... Pack sign Akim Aliu to PTO... The next "gamble" (to quote Ola)... We need Kanye West on camera saying "Jim Shoenfeld doesn't care about the HWP" lol

so instead of the winners from the Blackhawks, Rangers keep trying for their castoffs.. maybe it can work.. Rangers need toughness too..

I am not seeing the harm in this? Give him a shot, if he sucks, cut him, if he does okay, keep him around. It's a AHL contract.

he played 5 games for the Flames.. so maybe he is still young that he can still make it as a 4th line goon

His profile pic screams "I don't work out in the offseason"

What's the update on Fast? I know he was skating like a week and a half ago and was still a few weeks away?

He gonna be back this weekend? Perhaps around Christmas?

Pack need him as he played well in his few games.

Aliu....always liked the guy in his draft year. Why not give him a crack? He's still REALLY young.

Is that a ****ing joke?

Don't Aliu and Beach have problems with each other?

What the hell is this organization doing?

Also, look at one of those fans celebrating right after Aliu scores.

I'm not trying to be rude, but is that a person?

Yep.

I know nothing about an Aliu and Beach history.

They were teammates in Rockford and fought each other during practice. They were sent home for it, during the playoffs.

After discussing the weird fan with some people, the popular theory is an illusion of the glass.

He doesn't seem like an bad skater, willing to drop the gloves. Sather is looking everywhere to find a young hungry player to fill in on the 4th line.
