THREE STARS

1. Mission: proof that the team with the best goalie usually wins the game. Monstrous performance. This should've been an embarrassing blowout by 7-8 goals. By far the best player on the ice.

2. Yogan: worked hard, phenomenal game-typing goal plus another assist.

3. Mash: three points.

Honorable Mention: Palm - excellent hustle and scored a goal. If Mash didn't score the empty-netter, I'd have him as the #3 star.

Stajcer with another good ECHL performance today. 2 goals on 34 shots. He isn't as hot as he was in mid/late January and February when he had close to a .950 SV%, but his .924 SV% in March is still excellent. He's proving himself well at this level and should be in the AHL as soon as a spot opens up.

He has, and he's also cut down on WTF goals where you are left wondering how he gave up a goal that your dead grandmother would've stopped.

Didn't watch yesterday's game, so not sure what happened.

THIS EXACTLY. Couldnt have said it better! Those WTF goals hurt the most.

Noob tied with three other players for 3rd place in scoring in the AHL. Two of the other three are former Hartford players: Jam and Taffe.

Newbury, Ferreiro, Mashinter, Segal, Collins, Pyett, Vernace, Talbot and a few others I'm forgetting are hardly "young" for the AHL...

Whatever, overall the team is very young. You're never going to get a well played game from start to finish in the minors. This is a league where the players are learning within games (and sometimes forgetting the lessions by the next period).

Everything I've seen and heard suggestings that Talbot is progressing well. Not bad for an undrafted college player from the University of Alabama.

Newbs is interesting. He's got 114 PIM, which is way higher than any of the Top 20 Point Scorers. Cut those down and this guy leads the AHL every season.

Maybe he needs to be on the 2ed or 3rd line whenever he gets called up next. He always looks horrible on the 4th line.

Instead of being an all-around guy who does everything for Hartfotd, he should focus on one thing: fighting, passing, whatever and get really good at it. He will never be a Messier type at the NHL level.

Maybe Newbury needs to be on the islanders or an expansion team to make the NHL

To Beacon, and anyone else knowledgable,

How often has Kreider just dumped the puck into the offensive zone and tried to beat his man to the puck? I am of the opinion that he is more effective when he does.

Not often enough, but more than before. He needs to realize that you need to learn to use your advantages (size and speed) first, then proceed to trying to develop what you don't have (stick handling) later. I mean, imagine if McIlrath was focusing on his offense before learning how to crease-clear.

When Kreider plays dump-and-chase hockey, then parks near the net, he's incredibly effective. He's also terrific on the forecheck. After all, would you want a 6-foot-3 225 pound guy coming at you at the speed of a motorcycle? He causes a ton of turnovers this way.

Hey, non-rangers fan here.

I'm just wondering about Kreider. I see he has 17 points and a -10 in 40 games in the AHL. I'm aware that he is your number one prospect and has spent time in both the AHL and NHL, but I'm more curious about how he is playing? Is he struggling as much as his stats suggest?

Hi - a friendly note of advice.

I suggest you run very quickly to the highest point available immediately. Do not take your belongings - do not look back -do not make that last call to loved ones - do not hug that puppy - just RUN FOR THE HILLS!!! A gigantic tsunami flood of smelly, brown, floating manure-like substance is heading in your general direction. Do not say that you have not been warned... ;)

Contentious question. You know how it is. Opinions are like ***holes.

It was discussed for a while here:

Nope. He's a better NHL play than an AHL player. Unfortunately Torts doesn't give him a fair chance. He also had bone chips in his ankle that affected his play proactively and retroactively. Also, he made a couple successful passes that would have been assists if the player he passed to scored a goal.

You will hear all of the above. IMO, it's been a rough year for him.

He started off in the AHL very poorly during the lockout. He broke camp with the big club, where he struggled to assert himself. Found himself in Torts' doghouse to some degree. Was injured, a healthy scratch, would see few minutes, and so on. Did nothing to force the team's hand in keeping him up, IMO. The skills are evident, but he's yet to put it together this year. He went back down a couple weeks ago, and immediately posted four goals in three games. Since then he's vanished, along with the rest of his teammates.

Thanks! I have seen him play in person and there is no denying the tools he has. I see him as one of those guys who can put up great numbers but wont be able to do it on his own at the NHL level. In his AHL stint has at least been playing well despite the lack of results? ie. getting good offensive opportunities, rounding out his game, bringing a consistent effort?

Very good to hear. Whale looking good on paper up front now
Especially if Lindberg & Fast join and eventually a rental is brought in (maybe sending Miller down?)

Any news on Bourque?

I remember seeing something about positive development on the Bourque front as well, like practice but wearing a different colored jersey.

But yeah, the Whale could be a tough team to beat down the stretch and if they make the playoffs. It'll be fun to watch. Also interested to see if the Rangers go out and trade a late draft pick to add just a bit more depth to the team. We'll see.
