After a few games, I'd send down Miller and call up Hrivik. He would already be on the NHL roster if not for that concussion. Maybe put him with countrymen Gaborik to take him under his wing.

The Whale had a bad night without playing. All its competitors won their games and Hartford is now in 10th place with two teams just one point behind it, and these two teams have 1 and 2 games on hand. Hartford is now in 12th place in terms of points per game. The good news is that the difference between 7th and 12th place is just two points, but that's 6 teams fighting for 2 spots and Hartford is in the worst position right now.

I've made many comments here on McIlrath, so just scroll up.

Palm hustles hard, but he'll need to skate faster to be a spark plug in the NHL.

Hrivik is a good two-way guy. He can even be a top-6 player in the NHL eventually and I think he has an excellent shot to be a third liner.

Hrivik hopefully will soon back and Bourque appears to be getting better too
Say we get a fwd in a trade (or maybe we sign Zuccarello and Asham returns) with the Big club & Miller gets sent down - for a while at least. He is not NHL ready - yet IMO
Fast and Lindberg come over after elimination for a cup of Java
MSC & Nichols should both get a taste in CT too when they are done with the playoff this year as they are both becoming pros next season

Talk about a logjam in CT up front
Especially on the right side
Interesting...
Expect a couple of CT fwd players to be dealt here as part of deals to be used as rentals...
Maybe Kreider gets a recall to NYC too?

Yup, it was going to catch up to them sooner or later with those games in hand. Tough competition. But that means tonight's game against Manchester is even more important. But they can't worry about the standings - just have to keep getting wins, or at least a point.

Having additional forwards in Kreider and Hrivik might help a lot. It also moves Pyett back on defense, making the blue line much stronger.

Yogan would be higher on the depth chart than Bourque. Both skate well, both hustle, both have a good shot. Bourque is a tiny bit better in all of these, but Yogan is much bigger. Bourque is small and Yogan is big. That makes a big difference.

I think Thomas is ahead of Ferriero and Palm on the depth chart. I also think Miller is staying in the NHL.

I like the following lines due to chemistry as much as talent.

Kreider-Noob-Thomas
Hrivik-Lindberg-Fasth
Mash-Ferriero-Segal
Yogan-Jean-Palm

The offense would be terrific. I hope Bickel joins the defense to make it strong also.

I thought Pyett had been playing back on D for awhile now? I didn't see any of the games from the road trip though.

Anyways, hoping tonight's game against Manchester can wash some of that Rangers' funk out of my mouth...haha.

So....how are Kreider and Thomas looking down here? Any chance they can provide a spark for this pathetic offense? Even if it's only for a game?

I'll be at the game tonight, so I'll write a bit about what I see. I haven't seen the last few games since they were on the road, Beacon might know better!

Kreider has 5 points(4 goals) in the past 5 or 6 games so he is doing ok. I still beleive that he should be up now. Torts needs to let this guy play a more free game like he did in the playoffs. For Christsakes let him play with stepan or even richards once in a while. As bad as richards as been he actually looked decent when he played limited time for CK

I agree. At least with Kreider, there's potential for offense. Right now when the bottom six are on the ice, even though they are playing well, you never feel a goal coming. Miller should be back in CT soon, I think.

Bourque is playing. The Mission is starting. This is a key game because the Monarchs have 1 more point (in 1 fewer games) and are sitting in the 8th place. But I am confident in The Mission.

Yogan took a good penalty to prevent the Monarchs from going on a breakaway.

Kreider scores SGH. He grabbed the puck and instead of trying to stickhandle like he would earlier in the season, he dropped the puck off to Noob and went flying towards the offense, which given his speed means he left the Monarch defense looking like they never wore skates before. Noob passed it to him and he went on the backhand moving from left to right.

Kreider causing more trouble with his speed by playing the north-south game. It's amazing how Kreider does well when he does the right thing, isn't it? He also cleared his zone earlier on the PK.

Kreider almost had another breakaway, but Noob passed the puck a little too far. Would've been a clear breakaway for Kreider.

Mission playing well so far. He's the team's most improved player of the year (with Yogan second). But now there's a goal post against him.

Palm had a breakaway, but fumbled when trying to receive the puck.

Bourque's speed is great for the team. With Kreider on one line, Thomas on another, Yogan on another and Bourque on another, each line has someone who can really stretch the defense with his speed.

Yogan drew a penalty. Then another penalty on the Monarchs for closing the hand on the puck. 5 on 3 for almost a minute.

First penalty killed, but the Monarchs get called again. Another 20 second 5 on 3 now, but it was killed off because Segal was robbed.

Pyett is a good, confident player. Good everywhere, defense, offense and neutral zone.

Yogan with a big hit from behind that resulted in the penalty. It wasn't real violent, but he shouldn't do that.

Kreider clears the zone.

FIRST OVER: 1:15 of the Yogan penalty will carry over. Good period by Mission and Kreider.

When Kreider is on his game and is able to use his strengths he is pretty unstoppable. Hopefully he is up bby th end of the month so he can help the rangers

SECOND PERIOD

Bourque's hustle makes Callahan look lazy. He gets tripped up and then keeps moving another half a dozen yards (not feet, yards) on his knees and gets off a good shot.

McIlrath lost his stick and decided to hit, sending the Monarch into the Central Time Zone.

Mission has a very good glove. Another great glove save.

Mash takes a penalty, but at the end of it, another penalty is called on McIlrath. As the Monarchs were on the delayed penalty, they also took a penalty, so it became a 4 on 4. That was not a good tripping penalty on McIlrath.

Cross-checking on Collins. Killed off.

PP now.

He did the Mash. The mighty Mash. 2-0. The M&Ms just let him skate in on the goal. Yogan and Pyett get the assists, but Segal is responsible for the goal by driving to the net to distract the goalie.

Jean had a breakaway, but the puck was bouncing on him, so he couldn't get a good shot off. But a few seconds later, Vernace passed to Carroll between the hash marks, shot the puck, got his own rebound and buried it. Vernace and Jean with assists. 3-0.

Big save by Jones on Ferriero.

Klassen with a big defensive play.

Big "Feel the McIlrath" sign is held up by the fans.

TWO PERIODS END: It's great that the Whale is winning this game big because the M&M goalie has been playing really well.

Scranton, Albany and M&Ms (6, 7 and 8 spots) are are all going to lose tonight, as will Norfolk, which is one point behind Hartford with a game on hand. Hersey (#9 seed) has the same number of points as Hartford, but one game on hand, and they are tied with the Tigers (Islanders) who are pretty much out of the playoffs already.

If the Island Tigers win tonight, the Whale will be #7 with point ahead on hand over #8 and #9, having played 1 and 3 more games.

This is not a terrible position for the Whale considering Bourque just returned and Hrivik is coming back next week. But if the Isles lose, the Whale will be in a slightly tougher spot.
