I dont think Roobroeck will report to Niagara is what I am told

I think this was a myth created by fans trying to bedunk a conspiracy that never existed. If you're the new ownership in Niagara you are doing EVERYTHING in your power to mend that relationship. Having Roobroeck report would be a massive step forward. The issue with his brother was with previous ownership. Lets be honest here.. why WOULDNT you want to play in Niagara if the new ownership turns it around? Awesome location to play junior hockey in.

I'll agree with @Postulates

Because nothing the new ownership group has done has shown that they understand how to run an OHL team. Now if they go out an hire and actual GM, that might go a bit towards easing prospects minds about the situation.

And Rome wasn't built overnight either....

You can't hang the new ownership before even giving them an opportunity. I really hope noone thought they'd make a change in one year. Getting Roobroeck is their first big step ( aside from bidding ) to SHOW the understand.

I'd rather see proof of failure in Niagara before saying anything negative about new ownership. For all the "bad" I hear, I hear as much good. Noone pays attention to the baby steps.

no it was true, its just that they are now willing to give the organization a shot.

I've heard top 3 are all locked in already. 🤷‍♂️
top 2 are, third is a question.

if he doesnt go 2, which i think he will, niagara is shady still so who knows, then he will go 3 for sure.

They dug their own hole though. That’s the point.

New ownership came in with a young team that had a bright future. All they had to do was let the kids play/develop and move some older players out. Not a hard thing to screw up.

Instead they tried to build a contender on the fly by adding mid level players for picks and prospects. Everyone knew this wouldn’t work before the season even started.

And so when this inevitably failed, they turned course and sold off just to get back to where they were before the season started. Zero progress made.

They took a decent house, set it on fire, put it out before it completely burned down, and want credit for saving the house. Who’s trusting the arsonist?

While not under new ownership, Erie is in the same boat with regards to coaching and the development aspect of players since 2017.

Yes, we hired Stan Butler, no the results weren't pretty after he was hired, but given only 2 months of a season is just not enough time.

Erie is kind of shooting itself in the foot in the sense of who wants to come play when the coaching situation and development has been so sub par for the last 6 years. You now have to put faith in Stan Butler to help turn it around with what he has. It will take time, but in the Sports world 1 or 2 years is "long enough" for a lot of people to write something off.

Nothing like the parents telling their kids and anyone else who will listen their kids TOI, FO%, hits etc...Parents ruin youth sports.
Some elite hockey parents are like the person watching a parade with hundreds of marchers going passed. " Oh look everyone is out of step but my Billy". Not every kid eligible gets drafted and many of the ones drafted don't get a sniff of OHL hockey. It's a massive jump from Triple A to being a solid contributor in Major A. Rangers sent players they drafted down to the Dutchie Bs back in the day. We went to a few games to see their progress. Lots of times they were buried on the 3rd or 4th line and never heard of again after.

You're smart enough to know what happened. They wanted to bust up the previous owners team and make an impact right away. I don't think you can paint an entire picture with what happened this past season, or at least, I don't think it's fair to. Lets see what happens this year.

I honestly think Niagara in a whole turns it around and it starts with whoever is picked #2.

Hunt likes his cooked deals with Niagara; Roobroek to Oshawa at some point is real possibility imo.

Regardless of intention, the reality is year one for the new Ice Dogs was a disaster. A lot of allegations regarding poor player management off ice. Most of that has to do with not having a competent GM with better knowledge of how the OHL works and what the player expectations are. So, hypothetically speaking, they could fix that from learning the hard way.

The Ice Dogs need a reliable GM that can calm the waters. It would be a great investment for the team. IT is what the team needs. That GM can then create a vision of the future that can be sold to incoming players. As of right now, the current vision comes across more as an ego play for the current owner. An, “I know better than anyone else. If you want a job done right, do it yourself” sort of scenario Is the impression across the league.

Kuwabara has a good track record. He played under Kilrea and has five years experience as an assistant int he OHL and ECHL. He is a solid citizen and if you are going to hire a coach that has never been a head coach, you could do way worse than Kawabara. If they can follow up his addition with a GM that has experience in the OHL at a management level with a solid track record, I think it would go a heck of a long way towards legitimizing the franchise.

The franchise has a great location, solid brand, pretty good history, outstanding fan base and a perfect sized OHL market with little competition. The team could be a gold mine and foundational franchise for the league. They just need to run it right.

I think people have to get past their idea of a good GM, and belief that they can pressure / force the owner to give up the GM position. It’s DeDobbelaer’s team and he has demonstrated he will run it. He does not have a real chance to be an effective GM if agents and players/parents feel they have power over him and ‘the league puts pressure on him to select players that will report?’.
If NFL and NBA teams can be run by businessmen, so can an OHL franchise.

Then there is no hope for Niagara. He has proven himself incapable. If his intention would be to add a figurehead GM, then players will walk. Simple as that.

We saw how well Ottawa turned around once Melnyk was gone. Shackles taken off.

There is a pretty big difference between the OHL and pro sports. The NCAA is a viable option for players unable to work within a viable situation in the OHL. If you don’t like your situation in the NHL, you need to give up a ton of $$$ to play elsewhere.

He will learn pretty quick if he keeps walking this road….

added a 'head of hockey operations' who guess what, like all of his other hires, has zero experience in the ohl. hes very lucky that roerbeck is willing to commit for the time being.

Maybe because the moment his brother left that organization he went from a guy worth an 8th in the OHL to a guy who might get drafted to the NHL… I doubt that much has changed.

The new owner has shown no ability to run a competent organization, quite the opposite actually. And also maybe the fact he only needs to bluff 2-3 teams to end up with his brother in Oshawa. Look at what younger McLeod did. I’d be shocked if he didn’t wanna end up with his brother.

Probably all DeDobbrllaer has to do is accept the acceptable expectations of parents/players and agents. To hell with the wannabe scouts & GMs that think they know better. If he can mange $21M, he’s got the difficult part of managing figured out. With input from the coach, identifying which player is better than another and suits the coach and style is the easy part.

So the position of GM at the OHL level is pretty much not needed. The coach can pretty much make player personnel decisions and the GM can manage a budget.

For a workaholic sure, unless you’re being silly and suggesting one to coach, all scouting, monitor schooling & diet, deal with parents, ..
Most good NFL coaches have total control of a 52 man roster
