There is a safety net of the comp pick next year if they can’t get him signed. Taht said, they probably would have a strong sense either way well before the draft.

From a strategy perspective, I am not sure the double 1st round pick sets a team up better for a playoff run a few years later or not.
you have to be able to trade him, who would take him if hes not coming and lock up future picks for no reason like what sarnia did with mouldenhour?

hes not going to the ohl, so why draft him? who is the last big name us player that the hunters recruited out of collect? its like gilmartin? its been 4/5 years.
I don’t think it’s a shoe-in that he won’t come OHL from what I’ve heard to be honest.

There are scenarios in which he would come, however unlikely they may be, especially with the NTDP buyout.

I’d give it a ~20% chance he comes OHL.

What I meant was the team could take a player they know won’t report on a weaker draft year and accept only the comp pick the following year. This would stack two 1st rounders in the same year. When you push it forward to a future year, you have two impact 19 year old 1st rounders on the roster.

I could potentially see that in a year where the draft is weak. A team picking 15th for example this year would get the 16th next year. If the 15th pick rolls around and you are looking at what would normally be a mid-2nd round talent, maybe a team would strategically pick a defected player.

That would be not much different than trading a 2nd this year for a future 2nd and 4th. Just asset management.

Anyone have the Actual list they sent to the OHL franchises recently?

I’ve emailed every OHL team about getting it but everyone say’s they can’t release that information or straight up ignores me.

Would much appreciate it.

who was the last ntdp player to leave the program after the ohl draft, and how many times has it happened? 2 times in maybe 20 years, so im not sure that its remotely close to being an option. his father wants him to go to harvard or an ivy league school once he can commit this summer. the only way he comes to the ohl at this stage is if he gets an nhl contract after his draft.

Have a hard time believing Addy wasnt in that for JRC
he wasn't, he was less then a point a game, 24pts in 33 games. its gthl games only not tournaments

Antonio Stranges was the last. It’s VERY unlikely, yes but not impossible.

Just want to note how bizarre this is. I understand the issues regarding parents meddling, etc., but it is pretty ridiculous that I can find stats from the Romania 3rd league on Elite Prospects but stats are hidden for players in the best 16U league in Canada during the year.

I was given top 5 from playoff teams and even then, a top 10 list from those players only. Supposedly the GTHL had five years of historical stats on their website earlier this year, from every age group, but parents were calling in about goals and assists so the league just took it down. Everything has been reported direct to the OHL teams - I can confirm that. The final numbers should also show up in the guide.

The OHL has been running a series of player spotlight interviews lately, and statistics for the highlighted player are in the interview.

Is there a trading window before the draft? I cant remember if and when..
only for picks

if he wanted to manipulate to go to the perfect spot hed just do what rehkopf did and sign a tender vs the usntdp which is legally binding

But why do you need it? You would like it, but you don't need it. Maybe there are legitimate privacy concerns or maybe they don't want people that actually don't have a professional use for it to have it (officially). I know if my kid was a potential top pick I'd avoid giving info to the people on these and other forums. Many people on here are quite honestly immature, petty and prone to personally attacking the character and attributes of the kids playing in the leagues.

Again...so....The people that actually need the information (i.e scouts and gm's that are hired and paid by the teams) have the information that is needed. Once more it's a WANT not a NEED and players/parents should have the option/right to provide or not.

I am sure scouts and various leagues can get early access to the information...for a price. It's likely just a cash grab and has nothing to do with "protecting the kids".

I never once said I NEEDED it. I'm simply pointing out that I can't think of many other hockey leagues in the world with the profile of the GTHL that actively suppresses stats during the year in 2023.

I could see Saginaw going this route since next year's rookies aren't going to get big ice time with loading for the Memorial Cup. And who knows, maybe with the cup hosting, maybe that's enough to convince someone to come here and we get another great young player. Regardless, I think the strategy of taking a chance on someone is a strategy you'll see the Spirit employ.

Just to be clear, I never said you specifically needed it.
