Roobrek has already stated that he won't report to Niagara. So I can't see them drafting him as there won't be any compansion pick for next year as you can not have two in a row compansion picks in a row but we are talking about Niagara.
Niagara has two first rounders, they can use the other pick to draft Roobroek and that's their second overall. Their compensation is the fifth pick and is the one they can not use three times

Not that Cameron is a bad prospect but I feel like the Petes will be leaning more so towards a forward with how many graduations they will have in the top 6/7

I’m not sure what you’re stating. Teams cannot use the defect rule in consecutive years.
I would take BPA at #2 even if that pick needs to be traded, then the highly rated goalie if a legit top 7 will not report

Do you think it makes it harder to compete with other team at the Mem though? Less assets to stack up... or does it make other assets more valuable?

You can kind of trade picks in a two part trade though like Oshawa did with Castle to get Tomaisno. Which also got them Danford because they declared Castle defected... not sure why more teams do not do that genius really.

QMJHL:
In 2022, 12 of 18 1st round picks were results of trades. 13 of 18 2nd round picks were results of trades. The swings in the QMJHL are just bigger. The end results are pretty much the same. There is a 4 year cycle there just like in the OHL. Teams bottom out and get high picks and while they bottom out they recoup assets to trade when they are ready to make a run. Same-Same.

Yup. That is a pretty sound strategy right there. If they take MArtin at #2 and trade him at the deadline, it won’t be for only three 2nds and three 3rds…. It will be more.

At least with the goalie Niagara would be getting the consensus #1 at that position and possible impact player.

Someone at some point is going to agree to go to Niagara and it’s going to be an incredible opportunity. Kind of like the contrarian point of view. If nobody goes, the opportunity for the ones that do could possibly be immense.

Of course there will be a ranked list for Niagara to select from. At some point, a player will say yes. They question is how far down that list do they need to go? Most of the insiders for that draft class suggest they’d have to go pretty far down that list to get a player to report. They can choose to do that or they could throw caution to the wind and draft best player available and force that players hand into signing or waiting until January to play somewhere else.

Niagara acquirIng a 2nd or two prior to the draft might be an indication of how difficult it will be for Niagara to sign BPA. There could be an opportunity to attract border line 1sts that will only go to the OHL if given a gold education package, and add picks in January trading 1-2 of their 1sts.
Next season Lavoie & Leblanc would have 2 of 7 gold packages, and maybe Ride & Copeland?

I like that idea. Acquire a couple of 2nds prior to the draft giving them 3x2nds. Then, draft BPA who will play in this league with both 1sts. Use 2nds on players who will report to Niagara.

If they get one or both of the 1sts to report, then bonus. If not, deal both for a landslide of assets either in September or at the deadline.

Beats the heck out of using one or both of the 1sts on a player ranked way lower in the round.

You are dominating this discussion with wise options, sir.

Wolves 4 Knights 1. Tie game after 2 periods, but some rather uninspired play by London in the 3rd was the difference and the Wolves capitalized. Series could be over tomorrow night in London.

All OHL teams have statistics from every league and likely from coaches of every team. Coach statistics correct for referee mistakes, in theory. The list above is from gamesheets only - so as reported direct by the GTHL to the OHL teams.

hes not going to the ohl, so why draft him? who is the last big name us player that the hunters recruited out of collect? its like gilmartin? its been 4/5 years.

There is a safety net of the comp pick next year if they can’t get him signed. Taht said, they probably would have a strong sense either way well before the draft.

From a strategy perspective, I am not sure the double 1st round pick sets a team up better for a playoff run a few years later or not.
