He's been saying they are **** since pre season. No reason to change now I guess. Accentuate the negative and overlook the positive.

I guess he just needs to be right. I don't even think they're all that great. They're an overachieving team but they're also most likely better than we expected before the season started. I guess he can't stand the fact that he might have been a bit off.

At 2:37 of the second period in the Panthers/Rangers game, the Situation Room initiated a video review after Vladislav Namestnikov's goal. The Referee informed the Situation Room they had the puck completely crossing the goal line. After reviewing all available replays, the video review could not conclusively determine that the puck did not cross the goal line, therefore the original call stands - good goal New York Rangers.

I do believe we got a free one here. If Mika or Kreider was the one that shot it, maybe I would say it went in but knowing how close Vlad always comes to scoring but never actually does, that's probably not in. Well, actually on second look, the ref got a really good look at it.

It didn't happen last year (we were lucky to get the 9th overall should have been 10th or 11th) and Hard to see getting a top 2 pick this year unless Hank and Georgie get hurt while guys like Howden, Chytil and Kreider play poorly.
I want Hughes more than the next and am willing to "suffer" this year to make that happen.
Realistically, trade either Zucc or Hayes for a first rounder and hope the Lightning win the cup (possible) and that gives us another 3 first round picks. That makes what 8 in the last 3 years? Sign Panarin and this team should be very competitive for the future.
I wouldn't be sad maybe getting lucky to grab a Byram and a late teens pick and 31st overall.

It could still happen @bl02 - we will see next game vs Stars and it should be a good challenge they have 22 pts. as well. Anyway I don`t look at Rangers as a playoffs or wild card team at the moment, and I`m concerned that Brady Skjei struggle this season.

I mean, that also comes with the view that perhaps the AHL really doesn't have anything for Lias and he is better suited for the NHL, even in a limited role like the one he's in.

Would you rather a player be in a situation he's too good for, or one where he's on the entry floor for being ready?

:dunno:

Lots of ways you can take it.
This is how competent franchises handle prospects. I don't understand where this idea comes from, that Lias centering the 4th line for a string of games and his career will shatter like fine china. What's going to happen? He captained a country FFS.

This X100

The same argument has been coming up for almost 3 seasons now, and at times, the reasoning enters loony bin territory.

The slow seasoning of rookie prospects is such a standard thing. It’s not some
esoteric knowledge. I have no idea why the virtiol is all over the place about it

This feels like the Chytil conversation all over again. This is the ice time Lias is most likely getting for the foreseeable future until Quinn feels he’s ready for a bigger role.

It’s worked with Chytil, no clue if Lias will resound the same way.

I wouldn’t be so sure it’s coincidence and not causation. Quinn might just look smart regarding Chytil. He had him with hamfisted AHL level players until he stepped in on that one PP and looked great a few games back. Then Buch got hurt and he’s playing with top 6 talent and scoring.

This is closer Tom Brady filling in for Drew Bledsoe than brilliant coaching. BTW I like Quinn a lot so far but this seems more like luck than strategy.

Ill say the Panthers look like crap. Hoffman is there best player and they have Ekblad and Yandle and decent forwards. Are they rebuilding perpetually?

I have been even harder on my outlook for this team than GAS has. Yes, in some areas they've overachieved. But, he is correct that the results right now are exceeding the actual numbers. There is a lot of positive to take out of what we've seen so far. Kreider, Zib, Chytil, Howden, Pionk, DeAngelo and most importantly, Quinn, are all major high points for this team going forward. But, the rest of the team is rather underwhelming. For all the talk about Hayes, he's projecting to put up 52 points, which, while being a career high, isn't something that screams throw the coffers at him. The defense overall is at best meh, and all GAS is saying is that this team does not have the appearance of being playoff contenders. Admittedly, the league looks less daunting, especially the Metro and Pacific. And, as I said, a lot of good things are happening for the future. GAS's point (and mine) is that be prepared for the downturn at some point and don't be surprised by it. Look, I believe in what we're seeing from both Kreider and Zibanejad is what they can be going forward, but, I'm not about to bet the farm on it staying that way given past history. Right now I would say the Rangers have definitely exceeded my expectations, but, there is still a lot of hockey to be played and the underlying numbers are not in their favor. But, I will reiterate what I've said elsewhere... to me, this season is not about wins, and I have never been on the Hughes or bust train. I want the kids to show growth, I want Kreider and Zibanejad to prove they merit being here for the long term, I want the trading assets to maximize their trade value and I want Quinn to show he's going to have a positive impact on the team's growth. If wins are the end result of that process, so be it. GAS is not the only poster who has expressed those sentiments. @Edge has been saying the same thing since this process began, There is going to be pain in the process, especially if management adheres to the template they've been espousing.

The problem is not him being on the 4th line, IMO. The problem is that McLeod and Lettieri are also on the 4th line, Lettieri in particular has done nothing to warrant being in the NHL.

You've been saying this for 20 games now. You are what your record says you are. This is a better team then you give them credit for. I still don't think they will not make the playoffs and will sell at TDL but they aren't a horrible bottom 3 team either.

Once Lundqvist said he's "all in", no matter what, everyone should know he's not going to let this team be bottom 3. We all know him better than that.

Right, but his overarching point is that these string of games are suddenly going to detract from the NHL player Lias will be in the future. People were saying it was ruining Chytil, and he subsequently has been our best forward since being moved up. If it lasted a whole season with Lias, I’d be a lot more concerned. They’re not Malhotra-ing the kid.

Well no, I think its important to look at how they've actually performed rather than just being like "DURRRRRR THEY ARE WHAT THEIR RECORD SAYS THEY ARE OMFG PLAYOFFZ."

When they've played well, I've mentioned it (I thought they were fine last night.) When they haven't, I've done the same.

What I've learned the past few pages is some people just can't handle being wrong.

I personally thought we were going to be dog **** this season but I was wrong. And i'm happy that I am. I'm loving the vibe around this team. Quinn is installing a very good culture into this team.

Chytil was playing very well despite playing with McLeod and Lettieri.

Andersson is not. Not to say he's been bad, but he hasn't quite played at the same level Chytil was in the same role.

Yes, they are different playstyles, but if one player looks pretty good and the other doesn't in the same role...makes you think.

And no, this isn't really hurting their development nearly as much as you might think it is.
Chytil makes his own offense, he is capable of looking average while playing with McLeod and Lettieri, otoh Lias is more opportunistic with his offense, not a driver, it's pratically for him look good playing with those type of players.

I think it's time Vinni Boom Batts heads to Hartford. I don't know if any of you listened to the radio call last night but I was forced to because I was stuck in stupid traffic on my way to the bar to watch the game. Dave Maloney just kept saying "dumb". A dumb penalty in the neutral zone. Of course Florida scored on the ensuing PP. Vinni has done nothing to warrant staying up in the NHL unfortunately.
