What's this about Namestnikov throwing a fit? I didn't notice it.

I missed it too, so I just went back and watched it.

When Quinn taps Names on the shoulder and says "you gotta go serve it", Names rolls his eyes, turns his palms up and I think says "you gotta be kidding me".

You can see that Quinn takes note of the reaction too, and it takes him aback for a few seconds.

I was expecting it to be blown out of proportion a bit, but it's actually pretty blatantly disrespectful. If that's the kind of attitude that Names has, I would rather if he never had much influence over our kids anyway.

EDIT - The look on Quinn's face as he watches Names skate across the ice is saying "you done f***ed up, boy". There may actually be something to all the hooplah on here for once.

Thank you for confirming I am not a conspiracy theorist ;)

I gave my coaches attitude on a few occasions (things that in daily life wouldn't be considered a big deal) but in sports, actions like this are generally really frowned upon, especially when it's coming from a guy who is supposed to be a veteran.

The name change may not be working in your favour, if this is the goal haha.

It's possible I read the body language incorrectly (these things are impossible to interpret via TV). That being said, I did feel his anger was more reactive towards having to serve the minor than towards the boneheaded mistake. But again, I can't know either way.

Regardless, I still haven't been pleased with his play or effort since he arrived. Although, I don't think the plan is for him to be a long-term piece anyway so it doesn't really matter.
No, trust your gut. Anyone who saw the sequence saw It the way you did, just a lot of people missed it. It was blatant. And he’s benched the next game. Yes it happened exactly as faceless said

According the NHL.com, Names had 7 shifts in the 1st and then only 3 in each of the next two periods. When he got the tap to go to the box, he had been sitting on the bench for almost eight minutes.

So that's the root of his frustration. But he has to play better to play more; getting pissy about it isn't going to help his cause.

Different coach....I was hoping it would change.

Torts would bench him.
Torts would bench him? The same torts who didn’t bench Richards until that Boston series was a lost cause? You guys are but, it’s one game in, staal is here for all of the reasons everyone knows, but the entire league thinks he’s better than this board and they are right. He’s earned a chance to show he can still hang, especially in a rebuilding season. And other than the first sentence this isn’t directed at you per say

Exactly. He doesn’t like his usage and when he got tapped he pouted on live tv

Could have been upset at the penalty
It was more like. Someone on the ice, maybe zucc asked do you want me to serve it and Quinn screamed NO and tapped VN at the same time. And that VN was expecting it the whole time and then looked directly at the camera and did what esynergy said he did.

He pouted and made a face at the camera.

A bad game?

He’s been the worst forward on our team since March 1st. Including preseason.

Think Marc Staal has at least earned some respect here for what he’s done for this franchise. Namestnikov has done nothing but ***** moan pout and dog it since he got here. Let’s not compare the two

I don`t understand the hate @Kovalev27 - he soon need protection from guys like you in MSG. Is it his salary and he was rewarded by Jeff Gorton with a two years contract worth 8 mil $ - it don`t fit your evaluation.

Anyway I think Mcleod had a really good pre season so he kind of deserved to be in the lineup in my opinion, and if Nam reacted that way which is more likely based on his frustration I can understand the coach to bench him.

Not a fan of McLeod getting in but something has to change with Names so I’m not totally bothered he’s getting scratched.

Stop pouting. Doesn’t matter what line you’re on, play your best. Got an 8mil dollar contract so whether you wanted to get traded here or not, the organization has been beyond fair to you.

That’s what gets me the most. The obvious entitlement that is just not good to have in the locker room. You have a 4 million dollar salary. You make how much per game, how much per practice, per work out, per everything. And your so entitlement you’ll pout and sleepwalk thru it. This guy will get to another team and play hard and put up 30+ pts in a top 9 role. Get somethjng/somebody we can use and be done with it

Now all the sudden its ok for Mcleod to be in the lineup to some??? Last year when he was playing he was public enemy one abomination of a player and that was when we were pretty much eliminated/ done for the season. Yeah Names has been bad but still. Also we didn't have Smith and Mcquaid in the lineup last year so at least there was the excuse of him playing to provide a little "protection" .

It's not about McLeod being in the lineup, it's about sending a message to Namestnikov to not be a pouty baby.

Sending a message is fine. It's both. Bring up someone else from Hartford. Again reading what I read about McLeod on here last year he shouldn't be 100 miles near an NHL rink no matter what the circumstance.

Yeah how about playing someone Names could actually lose his job to

What is there not to understand? It’s pretty clear

Has nothing to do with Namestnikov, stop making this little incident into a huge issue.

The coach wants more energy and physicality on the ice, and he hopes McLeod can provide some of that. Also Quinn expects players to respond when there's dirty play out there, like when Buch got abused by the Preds.

Scratching a $4M AAV 25 year old player has nothing to do with the $4M AAV 25 year old player.

It was a quick play that lead to the boarding. It wasn't dirty or intentional. The abuse we got was from the refs last game and specifically on that play.

Quinn doesn't expect retaliation on a dime in a dozen board.

I really don't think any coach on Earth would bench a player with Staal's history after having a bad opening season game. Literally, none. It's illogical. If he under-performs for 10 games, then yea, sure. But after a single one and it being the first game of the season, please.
Yep. People are overreacting, I still could see Quinn bench him soon, Quinn chewed him out last game. Staal has been here longer than any Ranger aside from Hank and is a leader/vet presence, Quinn is a rookie coach. No one in Quinn’s position would be benching Staal after the first game
It’s easy to say on here that if you were in Quinn’s position you’d easily bench Staal but really, benching a leader/vet who wears a letter might cause a drop in morale or might get you off on the wrong foot with the team

Yes I don`t understand it @Lays , last season it was JT who was targeted - he was lazy or whatever in the locker room so the management decided to move him in that Ryan Mc. trade to Tampa.
