I don't see the two as logical partners now. Edmonton has zero cap room and the two players they'd want to get rid of Lucic and Russell I don't think the Rangers have any use for both term wise and salary cap wise.

Unless the trade was RNH for Namestnikov straight up but i just don't see it.

Lucic and Russell are surely non-starters. I don't even see how the Rangers would be interested in RNH. He's not much better than VN. If the Rangers wouldn't give Hayes a 4-5 year deal, I don't see them being interested in RNH's cap hit or remaining term.

I have no problem sitting namestnikov for McLeod.....he's been that bad...but playing staal? This reeks of veteran slack.

I'd prefer Staal to be sat, but honestly he has the legacy which, especially under a new coach evaluating the talent he has, deserves more than 1 game to get his bearings.

VN is not a leader, has essentially no history with NYR (and likely no future) and his attitude from the TMM penalty, all play strongly against him.

I really don't think any coach on Earth would bench a player with Staal's history after having a bad opening season game. Literally, none. It's illogical. If he under-performs for 10 games, then yea, sure. But after a single one and it being the first game of the season, please.

Staal may have a legacy...and doesn't deserve to be sat based on 1 game...but he was HORRENDOUS in the preseason as well.

mcleod, as shitty as we know he is, actually had a really good preseason, whereas names was literally invisible

if beleksey werent hurt i dont think names is on the starting roster

Pre-season is worthless for players like Staal. No one takes that into account. The only purpose is for them to get their wheels under them. The evaluation is meant for younger players, not 10 year veterans.

Again, I wish Staal was a goner and would prefer him sat, but it's illogical to think any sane coach would do that after the first game of the year.

What's this about Namestnikov throwing a fit? I didn't notice it.
I just went back to watch it. Looked pretty minor. When Quinn tapped him on the shoulder, he shrugged one arm and said something without looking at Quinn. Quinn definitely didn’t stare back at him like some reported.

Just accept it at this point. Staal has full immunity. If Staal-Holden throughout the Montreal and Ottawa series could not bench Staal, nothing can and nothing will.
Young David Quinn hadn't been born to see that, and all tapes have been burned

I would love to see DeAngelo in the lineup. Whether that is at Staal's expense, Smith's or more likely McQuaid since he's the RHD, it doesn't matter. I'd like to see Hajek on the left side but I'm ok with him in the AHL for a few months. Next season Skjei, Hajek, Lindgen and Shatty, Pionk, DeAngelo. And Shatty goes at the TDL.

Good luck killing penalties with those RDs. No size and very questionable defensive acumen there.

Exactly. Oilers and Rangers have no one to trade with each other period. Khaira is someone we've spoken about here but Howden and the combo of Lettieri/Fontaine/Gettinger make him redundant.
