Guys Hayes’ money is going to Panarin. Forget keeping him he’s gone. His money is earmarked for the breadman

So are you upset about us not winning anything or losing games due to draft position? I can't keep up.

There's two ways to win in this league.

You're either great at driving play (Chicago, LA) or you have a fistful of superstars (Pittsburgh, Washington)

Being rewarded in the standings for garbage play puts us in a position to do neither of those things, just like always.

@Machinehead have some good points though; we could easy lose this game, but we had some good bounces again, and 2nd. period was not well played. I believe it`s too early in the season to predict anything and 20 mins. of good hockey is not enough to convince me at least.

I mention we looked like a playoffs team in the 3rd period when they played much better, but you expect much more from a team if they have plans to reach playoffs this season.

Anyway it`s too late here and I need sleep, a fun game to watch, until later! :)
That's pretty much your typical game though. Every game has its ebbs and flows. What seems to be missing is that the other team gets paid to do stuff too. The other team is trying too.

I think Quinn has this team working it's ass off and coming back hard to defend. I think it's a huge work in progress but I also think he's got them on the right path.

It absolutely does NOT feel like Henrik is stealing us games we don't deserve to win. It feels like there's a lot of 50 50 games and we happen to be miracleing ourselves to victory. To me that's a key distinction between what I saw the past few years and what I'm seeing now.

All while we're icing 5..6? rookies and DeAngelo whose basically a rookie himself.

That's impressive.
It might not feel like that, but over this 6 out of 7 stretch, it pretty much is that.

I really don't want to see Hayes go. He is solid. I know there's a potential glut at center.
Yeah, I look at how many young centers end up moving to wing, the weak returns for players like Stastny and Skinner and our crystal-clear cap after Hank + Staal + Shatty's contracts are over and I don't get moving Hayes. I didn't get giving him a one year deal either, but it's probably gonna happen so just deal with it I guess

That’s such an important thing to note when looking at this team — it is very young.

Right now, on a given night we’re talking about 4 rookie forwards.

On defense, we’re looking at what is essentially one rookie and one sophomore player.

In goal, we have a rookie backup.

This team has 6 skaters who haven’t played 100 NHL games, more than half of whom haven’t even played that many games at any pro level.

That’s not something we can just look past.

Those returns were all for older players.. and the goal is to ensure we aren’t paying out the ass for a guy like those you listed.. I know everyone is high in Hayes year so far but it’s a contract year.. I’ll consider that heavily.

Trade Hayes, let the youngins develop. Trust the process.

Silver star to McLeod for dropping the gloves and (yet again) awakening this team.

I'm falling (and I can't get up) in love with Zibanejad and Howden.

WE'RE ON A f***ING RUN!!!

Would you really rather have a few more losses than having Howden/Chytil/DeAngelo/Andersson playing well? It would be one thing if it was a McDavid draft and the old lottery system but it’s neither.
I want our results to be commensurate with how we're playing. We tried being the team that steals games. We got a fun few years out of it, but it fell short. I don't want to re-establish that same culture.

We can have our kids play well and still suck, as evidenced by the fact that they're playing well and this team sucks.

The last part doesn’t matter to me as much, because I think Hughes is an elite talent.

But the first part matters most to me. If Spooner, McQ, Smith, and company were willing this team to win, it would be harder to accept. But the fact that it’s the kids who are stepping up is by far and away the most important development of this season.

That shows me that we have the right kids and reaffirms my believe that this front office is capable of identifying quality young talent.

Great win! Even Kreider was mesmerized in post game interview.

If the Rangers are keeping Hayes longterm a deal will have to get done before the deadline. No way they let him hit free agency.

On a given night, Hayes is still the third center I notice — behind Zibanejad and Howden.

He’s having a good year. But I feel like we’re making it sound like he’s having an amazing year. I feel like there’s a bit of a disconnect with how he’s viewed.

yeah true @Edge and it`s hard to predict anything with a new coaching staff as well, but it *might* be too early for some of those prospects at least beginning of this season. Chytil scored his first goal tonight and Lias still need to prove that he can produce at NHL level. I still think the callup was too early since he was playing very well with Wolfpack, but I understand it since we have injuries now so we will see how Lias can do in the next couple of games.

Yea I mean regardless of what you think of Hughes. The worst record now gets you most likely the 4th pick. The worst record in the past got you most likely the first pick and guaranteed a top pick. If it was that sort of format by all means try and be terrible but in this type It doesn’t really make sense

I hear you. Unfortunately that’s also the nature of dealing in futures.

I think I’d be more concerned if it was squarely on Andersson to pick up the slack. But with Howden and Chytil in the mix, I think it will be worth the risk when the time is right.

Although, it's not really about the picks. As I've argued ad nauseam on here, plenty of elite talents were not taken top 10. At the end of the day, what you get out of the draft depends on your front office. "We didn't pick high" is an excuse.

It's more about, I don't want us playing from 2021-2026 the way we played from 2012-2017. It was fun, but it doesn't work. And while Shestyorkin is a great prospect, only Hank makes it feasible.
