That is an inexperienced team for you. Win games they should lose and lose games they should win.

I'm okay with it too, winning despite getting despite being outshot/outplayed. It teaches the youngsters that anything is possible. No matter how much you are getting your teeth kicked in, a win is always possible.

If they are still having these issues when they are trying to be a contending team then I will absolutely be concerned. But for now, :dunno:

One more thing, when you say outshot 3:1 - are you talking about shot attempts?

Yeah the shot attempts were ugly through 2. The 3 bar by del zotto and Goldobin’s cross bar are the only reasons we won this one.

The 3rd was much better though.

That's one way to look at it, but I also want them to learn that when the game starts at 7, you start playing at 7, not at 9. I don't want it to become a habit that they're rewarded in the standings for poor games.

3:1, specifically, wasn't meant to be taken as a serious statistic. I was just making fun of Joe. I should have been clear on that.

That's not to say it wasn't a bad game, but it wasn't that bad.

Sure, there was a lot of good for 20 minutes.

The first two periods were frankly, embarrassing, outside of Chytil scoring.

You need to just enjoy the win for a minute.

When this team is dismantled in February thisn wont be nearly as fun. We KNOW this team isn't good, and that's why this streak is just that -- a streak, it's not indicative of how good this team is because we know the underlying stats show how bad they've been.

I gotcha. I don't disagree. I want them to win by executing properly, not by getting lucky game in and game out.

I just don't enjoy them anymore :dunno:

Maybe if you're a good team and you steal one it's more enjoyable.

When the team is consistently bad, it's just another game.

Unclear why winning more than anticipated will make management stop trying to enhance the team's future.

In 2 years or so, I expect the forwards to be good enough to compete for a Cup. Just keep improving the D and they are a legit contender within 2 seasons.

Complaining about winning in the hopes of getting the 4th pick instead of the 8th pick is idiotic.

Not sure if this was mentioned, but Chytil and Howdens goals mark the first time since 1996 that two under-20 Rangers scored goals in the same game.

Then maybe it is time to move on from the Rangers....If I am not getting enjoyment out of something, I don't continue to subject myself to it. Makes for a happier life and existence....

It was. But it's a bad omen when Dube (I think I saw Dube) and Goneau did it in 96.

The comments about @Machinehead not enjoying anything aren't 100% true. He does enjoy a slice from Sbarro's. But it has to be the one across the Garden.

Couldn’t catch this one. Was chytil good aside from scoring a goal?

Yes.

The stats that count are wins, not possession metrics. If we make the playoffs and win more than the other team but have worse analytics are people gonna complain too?

Yes

Hobbies are supposed to make people happy. It's odd that someone would continue a hobby that makes them angry. Regardless, complaining about the teams abilities the last few years was not a problem, but that you're doing it now is really frustrating for many of us. Your expectations seem out of whack and you're consistently negative about a team that is showing a lot of positives in spite of their overall abilities/makeup.

This season and forum could be really enjoyable if you just accepted this year for what it is, instead of always finding things to harp on.

Since that's what they did under AV, yes?

The point isn't to "win" posession metrics, it's that with all of the data we have from all the teams in the NHL overs years and years, we can see that having good possession metrics is most often a good indicator of being a successful team, including winning the cup. Having bad metrics usually means you're a bad team and aren't likely to win the cup.

AV's teams were somewhat of an anomaly in that he got them to play high risk hockey and be successful by creating a situation where the Rangers offensive players could wildly succeed off creating high quality scoring chances and basically allowing Lundqvist to bail them out defensively and having a defensive scheme based around fast breakouts to create odd man rushes. That eventually failed them, either through personnel changes and lack of talent or the rest of the league catching on and making adjustments.

At any rate, when people complain about the Rangers advanced stats it's not that they care more about those stats than anything else, it's that they see poor stats but winning as more of a "lucky run" rather than something sustainable and would rather see sustainable play where the Rangers control the play for most of the game.

It's not all that different than wanting to watch your team dominate the other team game in and game out rather than watch them play on their heels and get bailed out by their goalie, it's just putting stats to the eye test of watching the team.

e: as for Chytil, when I think he needs to be sent down then he has a good game like this and it's like "hmm maybe he does just need more time". Still think he needs to work on figuring out how to get more high danger shots on net.

I kinda get what Machinehead is saying though.

A lot of people kind of says it tongue and cheek now, but you can almost sense the posts about signing Zucc and Hayes coming, or about making a trade of someone comes on the market.

So I “get” where he’s coming from.
We have RB for that tho

I didn't say I wasn't enjoying the Rangers. I'm not enjoying games where they play extremely poorly, even if they win.

I accepted this year for what it is with the hopes that we'd at least be getting a high pick. Now they're winning.

And again, if they looked good winning, that would be different.
