ASP to the rest of the SHL…

Just put him in the NHL next year can he really be worse than Petry or Holl?

Walman - Seider
Edvinsson - Pesce
Chiarot - ASP

ASP needs x1 if not x 2 seasons in GR..

He'll need to learn first to play in the small rink where time and space disappears si much faster, and, it's not like he is a physical menace..

Sept 2026 at best

Step off the ledge. A losing streak is no reason to abandon reasonable development paths.
This guy is good for SHL, good for junior Sweden team, might get serious consideration for WHC. Of course, he can be tried for this lousy Red Wings roster. I mean he can't be worse than Petry or Holl. At least he is going to try as opposed to those guys.

The NHL isn't a developmental league, it's a league for the best players on Earth. Some players are in that category while still developing, some need to develop more to be in that category. But it doesn't serve players who aren't ready to be in that league.

Makar, Fox, Hughes all had the benefit of playing on NA ice their entire lives. The case for ASP being advanced quickly is a comparison with Karlsson: similar range Draft pick, huge offensive upside, a little undersized who was 19 when he came over after one full SEL season (69 games overall), and promoted from AHL to Ottawa after just 12 games (11 points). He diidn't turn 20 until after his rookie NHL season. ASP has had a more productive full season (and overall) in Sweden than Karlsson and the same amount of SHL experience (65 games so far), but he's not the same quality of puck-carrying skater, the thing which has always made Karlsson special. The shot, offensive instincts, creativity are all pretty similar.

A good case can be made to treat ASP similarly and bring him over this summer to start in the AHL and see how it goes. The SY prospect slow-roll might mean another season in SHL or a full season (or two) in the AHL.

He should participate in an NHL training camp and then go to GR or even loaned back to the the SHL unless he blows everyone away

I’m cautiously optimistic about ASP but I’m not putting him near the category of perennial all star and Norris candidate. That’s crazy talk right now.
I get that. But to that same point, if you're going to compare ASP to players you need to compare him to those players at ASP's age. It's silly to compare him to 24-25yo NHLers.
