ASP could probably make the jump next year but they'll probably stick him in the AHL for 24-25.

GR should be stacked next year.
yeah, my 6 year comment was a hyperbole, but as we are all aware of, the Wings never rush prospects. I could see

24-25: SHL again
25-26: GR
26-27: Detroit (or could even see him start in GR again, getting the Edvinsson treatment)

He's doing well moving the puck for Sweden but hasn't done much to stand out. They have him QBing the first PP and aren't using him in his usual Ovechkin one-timer spot because they are using Lekkerimaki there instead. I'd like to see Sweden put him on the 2nd unit and have him rip some shots from that left circle

Naturally, I'd give him another year in Sweden, then AHL, then NHL in 2026-27. I think simply because his raw potential is so high, that he might need that extra bit of development so we get a better ASP, faster. Much like Edvinsson this year.

However, ASP's potential is tantalizing and I can't help but see him in the NHL in 2025-26.

There is nothing with the way Ed is being deployed that is getting us the best Ed faster.

Not sure why you'd want to mirror with ASP.

There is nothing wrong with the way they're deploying him either, because nothing they're doing is hurting him. The only thing it's hurting right now is the big roster. Edvinsson isn't going to stagnate continuing playing in the AHL this year. Believe me, I want him up as much as the next guy...

Neither of those two players are remotely the same kind of defenseman in how they play in each zone on the ice. There's also a 7 inch size difference as well. They're naturally going to develop differently, they are, and certain parts of their games that need work will be fine tuned. That's the nature of proper development.

True, but forwards tend to not need as much time to adjust to the smaller ice. Defenseman have to adjust more to the speed and physicality than a forward does, and their mistakes tend to be more likely to lead to goals against. Very few defenseman go straight from the larger ice to the smaller one without any AHL time to adjust. The ones that do tend to be super elite top picks like a Dahlin or Hedman.

Ask Skellefteå general manager Erik Forssell and he’ll go straight to the point, too.

“Axel is very good,” Forssell will say. “His ceiling is really high. His ceiling is basically like he could be one of the best players in the world. There’s a long way to go to become that but he has all of those tools.”

Ask Pierre Johnsson, an assistant coach (focusing on the defensemen) with Skellefteå and the national team, about him and he responds with an exclamation of “Ou-ee.”

“He’s going to have a huge impact on Detroit for the future,” Johnsson said on a recent phone call. “I really believe that. I think he’s going to be a difference-maker in the NHL for sure.”

He is so good offensively with his passing and his choice of shooting. I didn't like Sweden deploying him on the left side today but still felt he had a strong game. Almost scored a goal earlier in the game (went in shortly after the buzzer). He's going to be a stud.

yeah, this guy is gonna be special, he's gonna run our PP for decades

I liked the hustle of Danielson all tournament, but I don't think he has anywhere near the ceiling that asp does
