What are you willing to give up to get him for next season?

Nothing. I am not the one who wants him, so I wouldn't go after him. Only way I would be interested is if Copp was going the other way, but that isn't going to happen. Good player, not a fit for us to me.

That's the same thing I would give for him. :D

Sweden Stock Watch: A pair of Vegas Golden Knights prospects lead the way

At #3 .....

Axel Sandin Pellikka, D, Skellefteå AIK (Detroit Red Wings)

Axel Sandin Pellikka is off to a strong start to the season, leading Skellefteå with eight goals through 23 contests. What's even more impressive is that Skellefteå is struggling to find the back of the net as a team, yet here he is lighting the lamp as a defenceman.

He's most dangerous from the top of the circles with his wrist shot, but Sandin Pellikka also brings value in transition, playing the puck well on breakouts and using his edges to avoid forecheckers.

When play turns to defence, Sandin Pellikka reads opposing rushers well and is competitive in board battles. I think he'll do well defending on the smaller ice surfaces in North America, too.

With the way he's playing on a night-in, night-out basis in the SHL, Sandin Pellikka looks well on his way to developing into a top-four defenceman at the NHL level.

Big Hype Prospects: Bains, Fowler, Sandin-Pellikka, Atanasov, Buium

Axel Sandin-Pellikka, RHD, Detroit Red Wings (Skellefteå AIK, SHL)
23GP 8G 4A 12pts

One of the most talented offensive defensemen in the 2023 draft class, the early returns on Sandin-Pellikka have been strong. The right-shot blueliner has firmly established himself as an SHL-caliber player after playing in just 22 league games last season, and he has excelled in multiple areas.

Not only is he playing a heavy dose of minutes (he gets legitimate top-four ice time) but he’s also scoring goals at a far higher rate than is typically expected of a defenseman, let alone an 18-year-old one. Sandin-Pellikka is on pace to score 18 goals in a 52-game season, assuming he can keep this pace up.

The Red Wings selected Sandin-Pellkka 17th overall at the 2023 draft in large part due to confidence that his tantalizing offensive tools would translate into meaningful production at higher levels of hockey.

Although it’s still early, the Red Wings have to be encouraged by how well his dynamic, pace-pushing game has adjusted to one of the top leagues in the world.

I’ll throw a loop into it… What if it’s Hanifin and Markstrom??

That’s purely speculative on my part. Never heard Markstrom ever connected to Detroit. Just know Detroit isn’t going to continue putting up with their starting goaltender being sub .900. Likely why Lyon is getting the games he’s getting recently.

Talking goaltending in general?? Like I said, wouldn’t be surprised at all, if Yzerman made a deal for a more proven net minder…. if they’re in the hunt. Whether that’s Markstrom, Gibson, etc. My guess is, they’ll give Husso a chance to get things right, but the last things they want happening is for goaltending to derail their season.

To be fair, he’s looked a little better in his last couple of starts, but he’s approaching a year now, not producing at over .900, and that’s just unacceptable for a team who wants to be in the playoffs.
See, I wanted hanifin+Lindholm or Hanifin+Markstrom.

I don't know if markstrom get's us to the promised land (cup) but he would fit the style of play we are trying to implement. I originally wanted Helly before he extended but here we are. Markstrom is out week-to-week right now though with that finger so maybe its a good time to trade him with husso in the trade.

The other option I was thinking of is Vejmelka. He is usually pretty good regardless of what is in front of him, he just doesn't get help. I think right now, a straight up swap of husso for vejmelka would be an even, pure hockey trade and would cost less to acquire than markstrom imo.

Meanwhile, Axel Sandin Pellikka was essentially Sweden's top defenseman at the last World Juniors. Experience counts for a lot and this group has plenty of that.

The defensive group aside from Sandin Pellikka has a lot of talent. Tom Willander can be a legit shutdown option for them, while others like Anton Johansson and Elias Pettersson showed at the summer evaluation camp in Michigan that they can be tough to match up against as well.

Joining ASP is AJ. Not likely, but would love to see this pairing.

The change in how ASP is now reported on is good to see. It is almost a foregone conclusion he leads the team, leads the SEL and is a gifted offensive defensivemen.

It is kind of crazy to think that ASP is about to tie the goal output of Zetterberg during his last season in the SEL, as an 18 year old playing defense. Total points might be out of reach because he doesn't get a ton of assists, but the fact that he sits at 13 points a little past the half way point of the season is still crazy.

It sounds like he doesn't play on a very good team offensively, but for those who have gotten a chance to watch how are his playmaking skills.? 4 assists doesn't look great for an offensive dman but if he is their primary shooter on the PP it can be sort of understood.

Very curious to see how he does at the World juniors around his own age group, but with potentially more offensively gifted players.

His team is reaaaaaalllllllyyyy bad offensively. If he had competent teammates, he'd have a ton more points.

Playmaking and shot selection in the offensive zone is getting very good now. You can see he's picking up the game well this season and that's a result of his confidence growing. Not being used as a top pair guy but every time he's out for a shift I don't have really any problems with his play in each zone.

On the PP he's patient and draws players to him and opens up space and makes lots of plays that way. You've probably seen clips of him walking the line and burning players like Makar does.

His goal scoring in particular I would attribute to his IQ and waiting for the play to come to him. Though he's also quick to strike when he needs to turn on the jets. His improved shot and shot selection this season has made him a wrist shot/slap shot dual scoring threat.

His vision/hands/skating combo makes him a transition master. Able to send quick, hard stretch passes and he's really good at getting them on the tape. He will be contributing offensively a lot with his ability to look Adam Fox-esque in that regard.

All in all, I'd say he's been very consistent every game I've seen (7 or 8) in showing that he's excelling at this level and backing up his statline. He's by far the most mobile, heady, quick playing defenseman Skelleftea has.
