Prospect Info: 17OA: Axel Sandin Pellikka

I would like to hear more why you feel this way. This is eye test, and eye test alone, but for two seasons Seider seemed to have the upper hand in development and results. This season, in the last 10 games or so, Raymond has indeed started to flash serious potential. He is starting to show his ability to take over games, for the first time. He is clearly more confident, and the results are following. Seider seems to have plateaued defensively

Plateaued? He came into the League and instantly began playing 22 plus minutes per game. However, what has changed going into his 3rd season is who he is playing against and the situations he is now placed. He is clearly the #1 d'man and, as such, consistently plays against the best forwards on the other team. Yet, even over this progression, his play hasn't slipped. In this season, at the 1/4 mark he is on track to have his best year in the NHL. How is that leveling off in play?

He is 22 and securely the #1 d'man on this team and top 20 in the League. Is he closing down the top lines? Yes. How do we know.... He is a plus 4 with 16 points in 23 games, averaging near 23 minutes a game.

He'll continue to improve.

Was he the steal of the draft? Hind sight is 20/20. The pick has been well discussed but since that time only 2 below him even merit a discussion. Zegras and Cozens. No d'man in this draft comes close, and Byram was selected before him.

Screwed in the lotto, again. Thin D group. Top 3 forwards gone (deservedly so) and the top rated D man taken. The Kings make a colossal blunder and take Turcotte. Wings come up to bat...... and hit a HOME RUN!

He’s not gonna be a sleeper much longer. Watched six of his games recently. He’s going to be a pretty good NHL player. How good, time will tell, but he has everything you want. Including his dad was a pro, which helps because chances are, he understand the game and “thinks the game” at a high level too.

Another big boy, and he’s Right Handed too. To me, he’s as good as Wallinder, and I think a lot of Wallinder.

He’s gonna make the decision to trade a Wallinder, or the other Johansson, much easier, in a big trade for a big time dman. Yzerman will make that type of a trade, just like in Tampa, when he traded for McDonagh. I know they like Hanifin. Whether he’s that player or not, time will tell. Detroit’s blue line is going to be insane 3-4 years from now, after they’ve all played over 100 games.
That's why a massive trade would work between calgary and detroit. They both have what each other wants (at least fan base wise I suppose). We need a very good D player and it would be extremely beneficial to get another center (lindholm) so we can put compher on line 1 as he has been killing it and trade off the center duties with larkin.

We have great assets that we have the ability to trade now and not let it hurt. Wallinder, johansson's, roster players, etc without dipping into draft picks that yzerman likes to keep stocked. They will want to restock whatever we take from them and we can do that with younger players for them to take that are already proven to be A prospects or rostered already. It just feels too perfect for a blockbuster trade to happen but I won't hate it when it does because we could probably get them signed to extensions after the trade too.

I'm fine with that. We need another hard playing defenseman on this team more than absolute anything that is playing in the league.

waive petry, throw in maatta for the trade and bring up ed

walman - seider
hanifin - ghost
ed - chiarot/holl

that is a very, very good defensive squad. Once we do that, our goaltending starts getting better numbers and we are not deleting any players (mostly) from the team that bring in offense. With hanifin you bring in another puck mover too, same with ed. So if anything it'll add to our offense while shoring up the defense much more.

This is like all I want right now lmao. I don't know of any other defenseman that is available to sway me. Would love to hear names that are already most likely leaving their current team in the offseason to see what else is out there but, just feels like the trading partners for us right now is calgary.

I’ll throw a loop into it… What if it’s Hanifin and Markstrom??

That’s purely speculative on my part. Never heard Markstrom ever connected to Detroit. Just know Detroit isn’t going to continue putting up with their starting goaltender being sub .900. Likely why Lyon is getting the games he’s getting recently.

Talking goaltending in general?? Like I said, wouldn’t be surprised at all, if Yzerman made a deal for a more proven net minder…. if they’re in the hunt. Whether that’s Markstrom, Gibson, etc. My guess is, they’ll give Husso a chance to get things right, but the last things they want happening is for goaltending to derail their season.

To be fair, he’s looked a little better in his last couple of starts, but he’s approaching a year now, not producing at over .900, and that’s just unacceptable for a team who wants to be in the playoffs.

Funny you say that but I could see a deal like that way before a Lindholm and Hanifin trade..

I agree...if it's looking like we have a legit shot at the playoffs I dont see SY letting goaltending be our Achilles heel

How does Lindholm fit our timeline? We should be building around players younger than Larkin not older.

I know this is an ASP thread, but this comment on Mo is super important.

If you watched Lidstrom play, he was generally unimpressive. You didn’t notice him until he shot on the PP or had a nice stick move on D. He was regularly making the right play and things happened even when it looked like he was pedestrian or lazy.

MO has taken a bit of flash out of his game. He is playing to make the next play not to make the play on his stick every time.

Lyon got starts because Husso's wife had a baby and he didn't make the Sweden trip. Then his next start was the second game in a B2B.

I wish Lalonde and Stevie would realize Husso sucks and use Lyon more and/or trade for a better goalie. It has not happened yet.

This team is first round fodder without a better goalie.

Lalonde said he would decide who starts against the Sharks after the game against Buffalo. To me that sounds like he is stepping away from Husdo bring the number 1.

I would go like this:

Tue @ BUF - Lyon
Thu vs. SJS - Husso
Sat vs. OTT - Lyon
Mon @ Dal - Husso
Tue @ STL - Reimer (takes the mid-game of 3 games in 4 days)
Thu vs. CAR - Lyon
Sat vs. PHI - Husso
Mon vs. ANA - Lyon
Wed @ WPG - Husso
Fri vs. PHI - Reimer again (3 games on 4 days)
Sat @ NJD - Lyon
---------- Christmas break
Wed @ Minnesota - Husso

Guys will stay fresh and will not be weared down, thanks to workload in the schedule.

I hope so. Thanks for the update.

Lyon is better in certain aspects and worse in others. I like his calmness and positioning, don't like that he goes down early and can get beat up high. Husso swims around too much, and his rebound control sucks. In any case, Lyon deserves a test against a better team, and they can take it from there.

I'm not saying Lyon is the solution, I just know Husso isn't. Playoffs are played much tighter, fewer penalties are called. The team simply won't be able to outscore Husso's mistakes.

Thank god I came into this ASP thread and learned so much about our goaltending situation and love for a Hanafin trade.

and apparently Seider is good at Hockey?
