If the Rangers were a shitty team, playing shitty, I can see hoping they'd lose and not get meaningless wins. But they're a mediocre team playing decent, it kind of blows my mind you want them to now become a shitty team. This isn't the Giants a truly bad team where a win could f*** up their draft position in a draft that has no lottery, in a season where you only have to bear 16 bad games. Do you want to watch the Rangers win 15 games all season out of 82?

11 pts in the last 6 games... Playoff? Are you kidding me?

I'm saying and @SnowblindNYR is saying that wins will come when this happens.

A tank-capable team does not win games. And it does not improve this year. Only a truly bad team with not even a sniff of decent young players and prospects can tank. Effort is out working the opposition. The only team that goes balls out and still loses is one with 20 Peter Hollands. If you have halfway decent prospects playing with effort and improving, that's gonna fundamentally translate to wins. It can't be a "bonus". It can't and doesn't happen in a vacuum.

For those who want Jack Hughes you're gonna need Chytil and Lias to suck this whole year and not grow, you're gonna need an incompetent coach, which Quinn isn't apparently, and you're gonna need ADA, Buch, and Pionk to sh$t the bed, which I know you don't want.

Good post. I was really rooting for losses at the beginning, but I have to say, it's great to see their efforts rewarded. They also seem to really have some significant improvements and outside of a few games have competed well in every one.

I'm in the camp of what happens, happens and I'm just going to enjoy the ride. I still really hope we don't get some crazy Gorton move where we end up buying just because we're on the cusp of the playoffs.

Also, I think if we sell off many of our older players, the team will start to lose really consistently. Although the more we progress, the bigger role younger kids seem to play. Zucc, Shattenkirk, etc. we should still move. My opinion on Hayes is really changing. He is a player that will be damn near impossible to replace and is still really young.

I agree. I've always maintained that two of Kreider, Hayes, Zib and Zucc need to stay. All of a sudden it's looking like three

It should be. Can someone explain why it isn't 3 points for a reg win and two points for OT and SO, with the third point going to the loser?
That would be good. But I think the NHL has such a long history of two-point wins that it might just be more trouble than its worth to change things. I don’t know, though. Just a guess. I like your suggestion.

If it were the case that people knew the record for most points by a team in a season maybe you wouldn't want to change things. But points are inflated anyway. It just seems to me that there shouldn't be some games worth two points and some worth three.

He's always shown flashes of brilliance - games where he takes over and looks amazing.

Definitely, he's always made highlight plays once in a while but he's never looked this complete before. He's so solid defensively now.

I know people won't like to admit it, but credit where credit is due, AV started developing him into this last season by giving him tough draws and matching up as a shutdown C. Not saying he's responsible for Hayes' play this year but he definitely got the ball rolling

A one year deal will do that too.

I don't know exactly what happened this last week, but I kind of like DeAngelo. I feel like the Grinch when He sees all the who's singing and celebrating despite his plans. It's a fragile like though. It's a fair weather like and can be turned back to the default hate setting if his defensive play reverts to last season's pinata style where it looked like someone blindfolded him and spun him dizzy when he was in his own zone.

Small steps.
Small, small steps.

They are a shitty team playing shitty though.

They're bottom 5 in driving possession in games within 1 (tied, 1 goal lead either way.) That isn't a long term recipe for success and always catches up with you.

They've been exceptional in a skills competition and have gotten pretty lucky lately.

Anyone else loving Claesson's game? He is so calm under pressure and always seems to make a smart outlet play with little space available. Reminds me so much of Stralman. I really like him and hope he sticks. I think he's our best defensive D-man and can be a real asset moving forward.

This is exactly right.

I can’t even think of the last time I thought Claesson made the wrong decision. A la Stralman, another understated Swede. Makes the right chip. Safe pass. Responsible help. On a team where Brendan Smith makes 2-3 egregious decisions per game, Claesson is solid and dependable in his role. Oh, and he’s just turning 26, cap friendly, with minimal wear on his tires.
