Because of his weird height growth curve there is hope he is actually earlier in his skill development curve than you might expect.

Growing 7 inches in 2 years would present unique challenges for your hand-eye coordination and, I imagine, his skating stride. Also, knowing the best way to approach different moments.

"I can't tell you the number of guys that we looked at two years ago at 5-foot-7 and now they're 6-foot-2," said Devils chief scout Mark Dennehy.”

I didn't know that Filmon just hit a major growth spurt. For me, that is actually super encouraging in terms of his development. First off, he grew up having to work with a tiny frame, so he was already disadvantaged early on but still shined and was able to put up numbers to get drafted to the WHL. Then, adding 7 inches and maybe 40 pounds to that frame and wow that's a player.

This was actually one of the big reasons I loved Jack Quinn. He was a highly undersized player up until he was 16-17, where he shot up like 6 inches in one year to be 6'0''. He only lifted his first weight when he was 17 IIRC and I kept saying that he had so much room to grow because he was only just starting to get used to his much larger body and was pretty much working with the same skillset he had at like 5'7" while being 6'0" with only one season of physical development. Look at him now. I'm not saying the same will happen for Filmon, but give this kid a couple of quarter pounders a day and give him time to fill out his frame and we might have a gem.

I wish his season would end at the completion of this month so he can train for 5 months prior to attending Devils rookie camp/Canada U20 camp. I truely believe the seasons are too long in the CHL.
he'd be a college freshman if he was an ordinary US student? A college hockey season is pretty long but has far fewer games and more practice and working out. I think a good D1 school probably plays about 40 games more or less. That is over a roughly seven month span (October to April) so about 6 games per month. Beyond that, if college hockey is like most other US D1 sports the team works out virtually every day and practices about five days a week. An athlete probably puts in about five hours per day in season outside of games. I'm not sure how that compares in terms of total time to a CHL schedule but the NCAA is much more of a practice and workout skewed schedule I'm guessing.
