They play well enough most games to win, but there just isn’t enough scoring touch. I don’t think Sid and Geno move the needle far enough for this to be a successful team in the playoffs.

More than that, the mix is just off. Maybe one could argue 'the Pens have enough top 6 guys', but the mix still needs to be right. That goes for the bottom 6 and the defense too.

Of course, even if the mix were right, there's another elephant in the room . . .

People blame Malkin and crosby for our bad pp, but with them out it looks exactly the same… whoever is in charge of that shouldn’t be…..

Nah people have always said the problem is the scheme/system.

It’s been like 4 years and they still haven’t figured out how to use Guentzel on the powerplay

This team's PP is a f***ing joke.

Hey Rust, you have a shot at a one-timer with the goalie not there yet and you try and fancy backdoor pass to Guentzel instead? Cut that shit out.

God I hate watching them on the PP.
The shitty part is that those sorts of plays can be coached out of a player. The lack of accountability the coaching staff enforces is astonishing…if not cancerous to the team.

The Pens' PP moves around like when I'm playing bubble hockey and I can only focus on moving the player who currently has the puck. Everyone else just stands in their designated spot until the puck comes to them.

It's so damned easy to defend. Which is why I call it the 'Sid or Geno needs to beat 1 or 2 guys to create an opening' PP.

I am surprised that there has not been more outrage here on that 5 on 3, I guess after 20 pathetic PPs we are kind of used to this, but seriously how can you coach NHL team go 0 for 20 and still put the same 5 guys out there in the same scheme and still pick up your check at the end of the month...

Sully would be yelling at them hard in the dressing room. Reirden is just going to stare at them witha very distressed look

There is no reason Kapanen should be on the Powerplay.
or maybe teach him and show him that skating backwards and hovering on the perimeter is not the way to play and use your best weapon. Maybe sit him in the TV room and show him how Kessel was doing it from the same position, or any other similar player

It's made even worse when on top of how static everyone is, when they *do* get a chance they try and be overly fancy instead of just taking the God damn shot on net.

Outrage is so two years ago.

It's the resignation phase now.

Kapanen stands in 1 spot, not in body position to react to anything, conserving energy... same thing I see from Matthews and Marner

Both are useless at this point. Reirden will probably be busy scarfing down a pizza or Canadian tire.

The other one I don't get: When a shot is coming, they all watch. If you've got a guy screening already, another needs to crash the net. If the screen isn't there, two guys need to crash.
