I love Tanger but I don't want him near PP. He just is not wired for standing on the blue line and distributing the puck
But anyone would be hard pressed without someone screening the goalie.
That's why Geno's one timer isn't what it was. In the day, you'd have Malone in front. Gonchar was a shooting threat and would disguise the pass to Geno. So, as the puck was reaching Geno, the goalie finally saw what was happening and started sliding over. At the same time, Sid would run a moving screen on the side. Net result, Geno has net on the short side open and a goalie who's moving.
BUT, you remove that net front guy, the moving screen as the one-timer pass is arriving, and the PP QB who can make that no look pass (show wrist shot and pass in one motion), and you have the puck arriving as the goalie is square. Not much net to shoot at. Tiniest of corners, usually far side (which is why a lot of those shots go wide . . . he's trying to pick the tiny corner).
