It was a month or so ago but didn't someone say that his team went from a good roster last season to a bad one this season?

disappointing step back for him, i guess we can't bank on him stepping into a top 6 role after all
I never thought he would right away and there isn't any room for him. Hughes, Bratt , Hischier , Mercer , Palat , Sharangovich and possibly Holtz say hi. I'm disappointed he isn't doing too well this year but he will be 22 next season and the AHL will give us a better idea of if he is cut for the NHL to begin with. Still happy with this pick and I have a feeling he will turn out to be something for us.

Remember when people freaked out because Gritsyuk can`t produce on the bad team with meh partners as 21 yo in second best league in the world?
9 points in 8 games. I think he will figure it out.

How has he been this year outside of the points? Does he look like he's taken some steps forward?

i wonder if he's interested in coming over now, considering how well we're doing.

he'd sign a cheap AF ELC (2 yr), i assume?

22-23 year olds get 2 year ELCs. I don’t know if he’ll get to burn the first year or if he’ll simply sign with performance bonuses potentially adding money. Older Russian prospects have done both.

I don’t particularly care, I just don’t want him signing another extension with KHL team. This seems like the right time for him to come over (looking at it from this end at least).

You can find breakdowns in topic, where he is good and where he is not. He looked better as puck retriever, he has some questions with his shot, now it looks better, he still isn’t very good positionally without the puck in defensive zone.

He is. But even with his interesting we don’t know what kind of offer KHL team will give him if they will.

He is the only devils prospect who give likes to NJD social accounts.

anyway no one will give you insurance. And he is only 21. It would be funnier if he will travel, but if he will decide to play in KHL in one or two next years, it will not really hurt his development.

btw he made assist today.

We signed Mukhamadullin and then loaned him back to Ufa. Do you think we can do something like that with Gritsyuk? Sign him and let him compete for a spot preseason, and then loan him back to the KHL if he doesn’t make the team? Only problem is the KHL season begins before the NHL season.

Why not. I tried to talk about it with him, of course he can’t answer. Because of ethic.
He is following for Devils that’s I truly know. We don’t know what kind of thoughts he has, his agent has, his KHL club has and Fitz has. May Fitz by his own is okay to have him and develop him in K, before Luke will be ready, to have Gritsyuk on ELC for a big run. For example. To many unknowns.
I think he wants to play in NA. He always talk about Devils team complimentary, he follow and give likes to the devils posts in social media, and he was KHL champion before.
If he will stay for year or two, he will make it for development purposes. AHL isn’t good place for him. It isn’t bad, and the NHL team is there, but KHL is more competitive league. Will see.

i will be ok with any decision he will make. Gritsyuk is a good skater, it will help.

Do you think NJ having Brylin on staff will make things easier for young Russian players? I'd like to think that part of his job entails helping the Russian prospects along. NJ has certainly gone to the KHL/VHL/MHL well a number of times in recent drafts so the team must have some belief they can bring along these young prospects. Gritsyuk has been fun to watch the few times I've gotten the chance. He's shifty and feisty. He's also pretty skilled and aggressive offensively. I expect he'd be the player that fans were hoping Johnsson was going to be but he never really had the skill.

Of course it’s always easier to adapt when player has someone to talk and someone who clearly can tell what coach is looking from player. Sharangovich will help too.

I will make more video. I just don’t have enough time and enough strength for now. it always works on the sine wave for me.

As I understand it, he could burn the first year if he signed right after the KHL season ended (since he's on our reserve list). Vegas signed Nikita Gusev during the 2018 playoffs and he joined them for some practices but watched from the press box.

in all honesty the best thing would be for him to come over next year(or perhaps this AHL seasons playoffs?) along with Muk and be in Utica for a year. Both get NA hockey experience and it would benefit both of them to have a fellow countrymen to live/hang/talk with.

The Devils house is sturdy right now and looks to still be in the near future. the team can more easily take the more "slow cooking" method.

Though I could totally understand if someone who's played in the KHL wouldn't like that development and would rather go straight to the NHL.

Year in AHL is not the best thing would be for him. It isn`t the worst thing, but not the best. It`s meh, half\full step back, but thanks for adapting for "NA" hockey. There are a lot of smaller or small rinks in KHL and level of competition is better. It`s ok to have them closer to the club, call them and try when the season goes, coach them by actual coaching stuff, learn the game with new people under new people. But full year in A isn`t better of full year in K. They are not 18-19 yo boys and they don`t play minor roles in their clubs. Anyway one or another way is okay, Devils have different players and prospects, they can flexibly approach the situation with the development of their players.

With some of the decisions that are going to be made going into next year. Coming in next season probably provides the best chance for him to get a roster spot right out of camp.

I'm not seeing room for him on next years roster.

With a bunch of expiring contracts there should be at least one wing spot open somewhere. I am skeptical that all of Wood Tatar Johnsson and Haula return. I’m skeptical that any of them beyond maybe Haula return.

Its a money game more then anything.

Graves Severson and Bratt if all retained will cost a lot. Then you have as mentioned Wood Tatar and Haula. Shara Bastian McLeod Boqvist and Zetterlund are all RFAs some that could require a raise.

I'm saying I could see a world where he works his way in depending on how the summer goes.

I’m sure the team would like to keep most of thr group together and Bratt is priority number one but beyond that it’s hard to see them pay to dollar for any of thr other expiring guys. Maybe they overpay Wood a bit?
