Celebrini for CALDER

The funny thing to me is that you've got people here talking about how Macklin's been sub-par or whatever since Four Nations, and yet this period includes 21 games after the Four Nations break and Celebrini is still at a ppg.
The 5 point game covered up a lot of warts from the past 10 games. but WE'RE BACK BABY!

I just enjoyed watching the Habs trolls get nervous on the main board Calder thread. I actually think Hutson deserves it, but I can see why their fanbase is so hated.
tbh all canadian teams' fanbases are that bad. the status of the sport in Canada means far more casuals who are more into the team loyalty thing.

Celebrini is going to have to tear it up to have a shot, and probably beat Hutson in raw points. Which is within the realm of possibility if he goes ham.

No chance, Habs are definitively the worst. Ottawa and Winnipeg fans are cool, Calgary aren’t bad, and Toronto fans (despite plenty of bad apples in a huge fan base) are so humbled as to not be troublesome. Don’t particularly care for Edmonton or Vancouver fans, but Montreal are the worst by far.

At the same time all 7 have their merits and great thoughtful fans. The Bell Centre for a playoff/rivalry game is only after a Shark cup on my bucket list! Also, 24 championships will have an adverse impact on just about any fan base. Pretty spoiled. The Demidov love next year may outpace the Hutson love…

All that being said, I do really like Hutson and Suzuki.

The Montreal fan base is like a 60 year old former supermodel that aged badly. Highly insecure and have to be praised constantly (which they always initiate).

Brilliantly stated. See also the ‘how would you rate Suzuki as a league wide asset’ thread.

Quebec was the worst without question

No idea where something like this belongs but Celebrini and Smith were both wearing this at the Couture press conference today.

Another drop in the "children are not leaders, don't give them sweater letters" bucket

Funny, cute, not the time guys, the day is not about you

there's zero f***ing reason celebrini could not have scored 3 more points but the hairless wonder insisted on playing a shit ass 2 F3 setup with 2-71-73.

I wonder why Warso insists on not sticking Eklund with Mack.
I think it is because Eklund can still drive play on the second line. If he is with Celebrini it becomes Wenberg with one of Smith or Toffoli and then whoever they can slot in on the opposite wing. It was working with Graf which is the last time I believe Eklund was on the top line. Ever since Graf went down there was not enough depth to keep Eklund with Celebrini.

I did have a little thought at the end of the night about next season and the idea of Grier bringing Granlund back. There aren't a lot of options out there for 2Cs, so if the idea is to keep Smith on the wing next season (who knows if it is or not), I don't know, I feel like Smith maybe doesn't work great with Granlund. Am I remembering correctly? (I don't think he broke out because Granny was traded, but it did sort of coincide with that.) I'm really just thinking stylistically.

Anyway, if you do bring Granny back, I worry that it could lead to more of Toffoli-Celebrini-Smith (or Smith on Granny's wing). These are conversations for another time, but it's a reason I hope we end up going another direction in adding a top-six forward other than Granny, despite his qualities and likability. But beggars can't really be choosers, I suppose.

Our top six next year is still going to be suboptimal from a player mix perspective, so I'm not really top worried about that at this stage.

The "sleepover line" needs to disappear, though. I'm fine with Eklund-Celebrini-Toffoli and Granlund-Smith (maybe with Graf or one of our younger prospects - it's going to be suboptimal no matter what), with Wennberg taking tougher minutes as 3C.

It's still going to be a long year next year.
