I absolutely hate the Sens but Robin Lehner is an absolute beast and is going to become one of the better goalies in the NHL for a long time (upper third of the NHL without question).

Yes... But we were talking about his short stint in the nhl.

He is a much better prospect than Campbell, hands down.

i dont see it... Texas Stars are a horrible team with THE WORST D in the AHL...

Campbell is obviously being sheltered and not fed to the wolves.

His potential exceeds Lehner's by a mile.

If he is so good why trade for Bishop?

Murray said exactly why.

Last year Auld was terrible and he saw Auld almost get injured during practice (that was at the time Craig Anderson was out after he cut his hand) and he realized he had no depth at the goaltending position with Anderson hurt and Auld missing practice/sucking. Lehner was 19 and you aren't going to throw him to the wolves (as you put it) for a team heading to the playoffs.

Still got a rager for Dumba eh...

i would make that trade but only if Nonis feels Kessel wont sign.

I would try to pry Brodin, rather than Dumba. I think Brodin projects to be FAR better. He's just a smarter, more effective player.

Yeah I'm not a huge fan of Dumba's style of play. Seems to me he'll contribute on the offensive end for a team but he will equally be a reason for a few losses.

He is just flat-out dumb.... a lot. Bad pinches, free wheeling, etc. His problem is that he doesn't seem to keep defense in mind. He's like..... a wild animal. He goes for the gusto when he's looking for prey, without thinking at all of the consequences of his actions.

I think Brodin is going to be a beauty. He brings the offensive game, with a smart, responsible aspect that Dumba lacks. I'm not worried about Brodin not being the most physical guy.

You keep saying this but provide no legitimate argument to back up the statement. What has Campbell done since his draft eligible season to make you think he is by far the best goalie prospect in the world??

The Spitfires had a great season in 2010-11 with Campbell in net, but hell they could have dressed a german sheppard and thrown it in the crease and still have succeeded. Campbell had a terrible year statistically that season and was barely a factor in their success. He has had poor seasons ever since being drafted, so I really don't see where you are coming from.

Kulemin is not a power winger. He does have a physical edge to his game, but I wouldn't call him a power player.

I didn't mean a "power forward", I meant a winger who can work the boards. Chicago needs that, and Kulemin would be great for them.

While this trade solves Chicago's center issues, it really leaves a big hole in their defense for the time being. Without Hjalmarsson, it's Keith, Seabrook, and then a bunch of nobodys. I wouldn't move Hjalmarsson if I was Chicago.

Really? Chicago's blueline is stack. Their top-3 is Keith, Seabrook, and Leddy. Hjalmarsson was on the 2nd pairing until Oduya was acquired, and knocked him down to the 3rd pair.

They've got Montadore as an excellent bottom pair guy. They've also got Roszival and Brookbank signed and Adam Clendening and Dylan Olsen coming through the ranks.

Another problem would be money and cap space. Chicago has 20 million in cap spade tied up in 5 defensemen with no-trade clauses.... and then Nick Leddy, Hjalmarsson, and Sheldon Brookbank make it 26 million in 8 defensemen.

As far as Colorado goes, most of their fans feel their team's greatest need is a high end defenseman. EJ is great, but they don't have much high end depth after him. They are better off dealing Stastny for defensive help than getting another winger.

Colorada, somewhat like Chicago, has a lot of defensemen tied up on 1-way contracts. They've got 8 guys all making 1.6 million or more.

I've said before that they do need some puck moving skill and footspeed in their top-4. That's why I've included Gunnarsson in many of my Tor-Col trade ideas. They have Erik Johnson and 7 guys like Jan Hejda and Greg Zanon.

I agree they'd be better to move Stastny (or Duchene/O'Reilly) for a good puck-moving defenseman. The only team that needs a top-6 center AND would be willing to move the kind of defenseman that Coloado needs is Phoenix, who could move Keith Yandle.

If Colorado would want John-Michael Liles, I'd gladly throw him into any deal for Stastny.

Replace MacArthur with Liles and then send Marm McNeill to Toronto instead of Colorado.

New Trade...
Chicago – Grabovski, Kulemin, Finn
Colorado – Sharp and Liles
Toronto – Stastny, McGinn, Hjalmarsson, and McNeill

Unfortunately for us, it looks like Ottawa likely has a top young goalie in Lehner. His current stats back that up, as does his Calder Cup run at what? The age of 19? I think he won the playoffs MVP as well that year. That's VERY good for a 19 year old goalie, and his numbers this year are showing he hasn't really regressed since then.

Goaltending has essentially always been an achilles heel for Ottawa. That may change in the next ~2-3 years if Lehner starts to take over as expected.

Oh yeah, he's going to be good. Somewhere along the lines of Rask.

If Lehner takes the #1 spot they could also move Anderson to a team looking for goaltending and most likely get a nice asset out of it. Bishop doesn't look half bad either. Unfortunately their future is pretty bright.

Now that Gomez and Redden are likely to be bought out immediately, would there be any interest in signing either of them for 1 year? (much lower $ than current salaries)

There gonna be bought out next summer. It saves 2 years on the cap hit. That's why they've been told to go home.

Oh and, for the love of god, no.

Maybe Redden if he takes a significantly lesser deal with a 1-2 year term.

We have enough players in the organization who could potentially not score a goal in a year.

the rules just changed. I'd actually take both at low $ 1-2 year deals. Let the youngster develop. Redden is still a good defense-man.. just nowhere close to worth the cap hit in NY. And Gomez has a ton of talent but needs a change of scenery, would gladly take him for a year at 2 mill.

We desperately need to jettison vets blocking our youth. Not acquire more. Right now as the roster stands, we likely don't have a spot for either Kadri or Frattin.

Can anyone in here make avatars? I'd really like a Leafs "tanking" one for Drouin. Not sure who or where to ask

Why are there posters who want/support a tanked season, when Nonis clearly said he has no interest in losing at all?

Because, with our lineup, we likely aren't a playoff team. The top 5 is insane this year (might be a top 5 like 2006) then after we get a top 5 pick, deal for Zlu. That's my take.

Of course the GM says he doesn't want to lose..

Burke said the same thing , that worked well.

And Burke intended to lose on purpose? Hard to understand why some people want this team to lose, when the team and management are saying they want to win and make the playoffs. A bit contrary if you ask me and futile.

Nonis said he is more patient than Burke, will not trade youth for veterans, and is looking to build a long term winner.

All of that talk makes me think he will stay the course, and do nothing unless a Luongo type falls in our lap.

Even if he meant it, what else is he supposed to say? No GM will ever say they intend to lose. Not even Tambellini.

Tambelini didn't do much to try to improve the team, or convince many people the team is getting better, other than hoping for the luck of the draft to fall in their favour. Not to mention, even with a collective group of skilled players, does not assure itself of a cup winner.

Plus, they did little to rectify their issues on the back end, and between the pipes. Maybe they feel like a few more 1st overall picks would be just the elixor...

Probably just tanking one last time for Seth Jones.
