Really?

I'd rather get Weiss and run with Reimer + a vet 1B to be honest...

Weiss + Grabovski is a much better top six center situation than Bozak/Connolly + Grabovski IMO and while Markstrom is an excellent prospect, he has had injury problems and Reimer is no slouch himself in terms of potential.

Three way trade:

Leafs - Markstrom and Weiss

Florida - Luongo +

Vancouver - ??????

Fill in the gaps!!

:naughty:

As I said in another thread...

Perhaps Lombardi or Connolly could be traded if the Leafs retain 50% of their deals for the year.

Lombardi could be enticing for a team looking for depth at center for under 2M of cap space for just this year. Ditto for Connolly., albeit a bit more pricey but he's also a lot better in terms of production.

Maybe Phoenix would give him a shot. He did okay there, and they have about 3.2 billion in cap space.

2. Trade him to a team in need of a goalie, looking to get to the cap floor. The fact that you're getting a 5+ mill cap hit at about 1 mill real dollars is attractive in that regard

2. Send him down to the AHL, reducing the cap hit slightly and/or forcing him to retire

3. Exploiting the LTIR... similar to what the flyers have done with Pronger

1. Why would any team aquire a player to not play, or ride the pine, when that money can be used on an ELC or a player that can actually contribute? Seriously ask yourself that question.

2. Sending players to the minors to avoid cap space is not an option anymore.

3. No team and player will exploit the LTIR clause without proof of an actual injured player. No way a team does this.

or we could get a big D or checker for lombardi similar price range
someone more useful
a colby armstrong or komisarek type who can actually skate

1. Let's say Columbus needs a backup/1b goaltender in 5 years. They also want/need to be cost effective. They acquire Luongo and pay him 1.5 million dollars, but 5+ counts towards the cap. They're effectively saving about 4 million.

2. While its still slightly unclear it looks like sending a player to the minors will still offer cap relief, just not anywhere close to the full salary it used to. Not a great option no matter how you slice it anyway

3. LTIR is certainly an option. Obviously Luongo has to be injured to a degree in order to go on there, you can't put a healthy player there. But similar to Pronger in Philly, he's not going to play another NHL game in his life, yet there he is on the LTIR... getting paid not to retire because of post concussion syndrome.

Here is a 3 way swap. Is this fair for all 3 teams?

Tor
Theodore
Weiss
Drew Shore

FLa
Luongo
Connolly
2nd VCR
J Schroader

VCR
Franson
Bozak
Markstrom
Colborne

That actually makes a lot of sense ULF. A team like the Canucks can handle the real money, while a team like the Lightning can't. Lightning need a goalie, and Luongo wants to be in Florida. Vancouver needs a centre. Don't know if Vinny would waive to go there though.

We all make 'em, but this one's a doozy via Toronto Star: Sharks GM Dean Lombardi is looking at hard decisions on Thornton, Marleau . . .

Hahah yea that's seriously something, it think thats one they can work with.

I like Marleau, and he's a lot tougher than many people acknowledge.

Not sure if he can still skate like he did though.

I wonder what Thornton would cost us. I expect Lupul would have to be included in the deal.

He would get eaten alive for his disappearing acts on the stats sheet.

I like both of them but I'm not sure how much interest Burke has for them, especially since I'm sure Wilson will be looking for a nice return.

If Wilson is motivated to move the contracts that is different than Burke being motivated to acquire them.

With how dire the financial situation is in the NHL, I could see a few teams trying to move expensive players before they join the Coyotes on the bread line.

And as far as disappearing on the stats sheet? We're talking the Leafs right? Why would he be any different than what is already there? He hasn't had less than 64 points in 4 years, and only once in 7 years. Anyone on the Leafs even close to that?
