I think they will try to hold on to their prospects since their contracts are cheap. Maybe if McNeill and Danault are looking good for them we can get Bolland from them.

I'd love a 3rd line of Kulemin-Bolland-Frattin
I'd want Bolland as well but he's on a fairly efficient contract is he not?
Agreed I think in their position that certainly is the logical move. They also have Kruger right. They kept frolik too? Few options to move around.

They also have Pirri If i recall correctly and he was gelling quiet well with the team.

Sorry if this has been covered already but... Can a team use one of their two amnesty buyouts on a player acquired by trade. For example, say the Islanders sent us Dipietro and a 2nd rounder for our 7th rounder so that we use our buyout on him and the Islanders org. saves their cash. Is this allowed?

If they don't use one of their buyouts on Vinny they're absolutely crazy.

You just can't pay 7+ million for a second line centre these days.

Tampa isn't contending in the next 3 - 5 years, so I think he's a goner.

I don't think they can afford to buy him out  He is still owed 45m after this season.

Tampa won't be buying out Vinny. Not a chance.

Ohlund, Malone or Brewer would all be bought out long before him.

If I was the Leafs I'd actually offer to take Ohlund on and buy him out if we can acquire a very good asset for helping them out.

Im not sure. But thats an insane amount of money to acquire a 2nd rd pick.

If they sent us Connolly or Namestnikov I'd gladly take a bad contract.

Also, in response to previous posts: I'd love Bolland on our third line. Can't see the Hawks moving him though.

I agree. I wasn't suggesting that trade. Just curious if you can make moves like that. Seems that would give the leafs some opportunities since we don't need to use our 2nd buyout or even either of them to be honest. We can wait out Komi's contract.

Haha possibly, but he has a NTC and I'm sure is quite comfortable where he is. If he's not getting traded, Tampa is going to have to pay his salary anyways. They might as well get his cap off the books so they can move on and get younger. St. Louis only has a couple years left of solid production, so I think we'll see Tampa heading in the "youth movement" direction very soon.

I will just point out that their AHL team is 1st in the league (last I checked which was under a week ago). They already have some solid youth. Find Tampa a goalie and they are a solid team.

I still want to know what Tampa will do. They aren't a big market team and as it stands they will be one of the top spenders this year and will be right up against the cap next year.

That is exactly the type of asset I'd be looking for or picks in the first 3 rounds.

If 7 million in real and cap dollars in a bad contract with Lombardi (minus about 2 million for Lebda) netted us Cody Franson. So about 5 million risky cap/real dollars equals getting an asset like Cody Franson.

What does something 10 million risky cap/real dollars get us?

I think that Tokarski will be a good goalie for them eventually, if Vaselevski doesn't come in ahead of him. Slater Koekkoek will be a bit of a project, but eventually will get there for them and I really hope that Connolly figures it out soon for their sake.

Quite a few teams in a big trouble.

Tampa is a bit of a surprise, they have 57.5m tied up in 15 players going into next season :amazed:

with the cap at 64.3 next season thats 6.7 million to sign 5 guys and when you consider all there gonna need to sign is bottom 6 players and a backup goalie there not really in that big of trouble. they also will have some rookies/sophmore's like Namenstnikov/Kucherov/Conacher/Connnolly they will be fine

Yeah I see your point, but I think Tampa has a lot of "AHL good" prospects rather than "NHL good", if that makes any sense. I just don't see guys like Tyler Johnson, Alexander Killgorn and Cory Conacher being impact NHLers five years from now and leading Tampa to a cup.

I just don't see a young core in place yet. After Stamkos, Connolly, Namenstnikov and Vasilevskiy i'm not sure they have many up and coming impact players. Plus they have a lot of Russians prospects, which is a risky endeavor with the KHL throwing gobs of money around these days.

Yeah, once I looked at their players I realize they really aren't in trouble at all. They still aren't a traditional big market team though so they may not want to be spending as much as they are. We will see.

Vancouver though, yeah...55.4m for only 13 players and having to sign Edler still is not a good situation

So trades can be made only when the players ratify the CBA, which will be tomorrow. But what about the Memo of understanding? Does that have to happen before ratification? Or if it happens after, can trades be made after ratification and before the memo?

After the players ratify, the MoU will be signed by Bettman and Fehr. Only after that can transactions be done.
