the knock on Nonis was he was reluctant to trade his top prospects and first round picks in Vancouver. I can see the same here, as he has seen first hand how it can blow up in your face. I could see Burke wanting to pay more for Luongo and not the other way around..... i could see some people being traded out for picks instead of the other way around.

i dont really know how the rules for the buyouts this summer work but maybe if we aquire him in a trade and buy out his contract this summer we can sign him for a better deal? anyone know how this works?

Some people would rather roll with Reimer over Luongo, let alone Bryzgalov...I really doubt he would solve our goaltending issues.

Bryz I think was mostly a product of the Phoenix system, I don't have a whole lot of interest in him. He is better than what we have, but I don't think he will ever live up to that contract of his.

I believe it was mentioned you can not have someone you bought out on your team for a year. Can't resign a guy you just bought out, can't trade for a guy you recently bought out. A year has to pass until a bought out player can be on your team again.

Bryz, while hilarious, is not the right type of goalie for our team. He played in a great defensive system in Phoenix and even Philly didn't make him look THAT good.

Bryz was a product of Phx. Look at Mike Smith....

I don't entirely believe that. He was solid in Anaheim as far as I can remember. I don't think he's an elite goalie as shown by his stats with Phoenix, but he's not as a bad as the .910 or whatever he posted last year. He's a good tender imo, I'd rather have him than Luongo after a buyout or with Philly retaining salary.

This is true.

Mike Smith in Tampa's run'n'gun system (pre Boucher) couldn't stop a beach ball... Thats why Stevy Y opted to let gim go and roll with a 42 Roloson.

Bryz & Smith would face a lot of shots for the Yotes and that's what clouds the stats... Most of the shots are low % and to the outside.

The argument for Bryz is that ideally Toronto will play a defensive brand of hockey per Carlyle, so that could see his performance rebound with number more like Phoenix than Phili... Plus if Phili get Luongo, Bryz would come very cheap in a trade

If we can get couts in return :naughty: ...i know it'll never happen

Hell no to Bryz in a trade. With him, you basically get a one year tryout kind of thing. Except if he works out, you still have a guy making way too much money.

Lets say he sucks this year/next year, then we can just buy him out in the summer of 2013/2014. But, if he's pretty good these two years, you still have a goalie who has never been consistent over a long period of time (3-4 years). Plus, if we make a coaching change, or end up deciding to play a run n gun system (many offensive prospects pan out), then we will need to get rid of him. Too much risk with that contract.

It's better to just wait till they buy him out in the summer of 2013 (if they get Luongo), because theyre is just no way they can afford to keep both for longer than 1-1.5 year.

With the Buyout; Why wouldn't Bryz just accept a cheap, maybe about 1-2 mil a year job over in Russia or something. He would already be making cake from Philly, might as well play at home.

He seems like someone that couldn't deal with the embarrassment of being bought out; most players would love a chance at redemption.

Definitely a possiblity if NHL teams don't show enough interest. Image him playing really well there, and then getting another fat contract afterwards :amazed:
