i cant think of a single time in my lifetime that the leafs have traded a top prospect for a veteran and it worked out in favour for the leafs.

i could handle moving kadri in a trade but i will flip my **** if gardiner is moved.

out defense without gardiner is pretty rough, even with him. i dont see how we can move out a ppqb and puck moving defenseman in general.

phaneuf gardiner
gunnarson liles

sadly Burke signed Liles. i have no idea why Leaf fans weren't scratching their heads at that one. we have reilly, gardiner, and liles. how much puck moving with soft defensive abilities do we need?

if gardiner is let go you can blame it on liles and reilly.

fail of a post.

Liles was a Kaberle replacement
Gardiner was a rookie

Rielly was drafted after

We both are. Both teams would probably be looking at around a 2M cap hit penalty if he retired 3 years prior to his contract being expired. Cap hit goes up for us the earlier he retires.

Not true.

Cap hit of 0.8 per year if he retires with 6 years left.

Cap hit of 1.4 per year if he retires with 5 years left.

Cap hit of 2.1 per year if he retires with 4 years left.

Cap hit of 2.1 per year if he retires with 3 years left.

Cap hit of 1.3 per year if he retires with 2 years left.

listening to Nonis on tsn 1050 and Dreger a bit ago. doesnt sound like Nonis is in a hurry to address our goalie situation. or any trades for that matter. I think he passes on Lu because of Gillis being stubborn and he just lets our guys play and trys to get a good pick for this year and starts over this summer with the draft and free agency.

not to mention Liles was one of the main reasons we were doing so well in the first half of the season untill his injury.

Exactly. He was one of our top 2 defenders for the first half of the season. He's the dark horse this season to surprise everyone.

And I'd go as far as saying that his success is a big factor in whether or not we make the playoffs this season.

I would love this at this point.

Nonis has to see what Carlyle can accomplish with the group that is in front of him before he starts to dismantle the team and start over....again :shakehead

I am probably in the minority here but I am hoping and praying that Nonis tells Gillis to shove it and keep Luongo. I can't even begin to imagine how someone can justify Kadri + Gardiner or Kadri + 1st for Luongo. What happens if that trade turns into the Kessel trade? I just can't accept that.

Kadri + Gardiner for Luongo is very similar in terms of the D'Arnaud + Syndergaard for Dickey. D'Arnaud and Gardiner being the top prospects and Kadri and Syndergaard being the ones who just need some tough love to put it together to become the players they know they can be. Luongo and Dickey are the "superstars" that will put us over the top because we are too impatient to let our prospects a chance. I am by no means discrediting either of their careers or their characters but it's time for the management to let the team be built from the inside and not with veterans and trading our future.

Just my opinion.

I do support the Dickey trade more than any notion of a Lu trade, but that depends the day of the week..

and thats the difference between situations right now, burke was under pressure to get the team to win to save his job, but now Nonis has no pressure. hes going to be here next season. so i think directions will shift back to patience to add pieces and probably will go back more to a draft first build. I dont see nonis making any significant trades during this season. he might try to sign some players this summer but I dont see Lu becoming a leaf unless the price significantly comes down. Nonis said that the leafs dont need to rebuild from ground etc. but i see him doing just that in a way. trying to get younger talent before going for star type players. the bad news for us leaf fans today is that, its going to be quite a bit longer for a winning team to emerge. I expect some pretty big changes this summer.

Despite some denials, the tweet earlier from @EnricoCiccone is accurate. The Flyers are interested in Roberto Luongo.

:naughty:

lol sounds like holmgren move, just throw a wad of cash at the situation and see where it lands.the question is though, would Lu want to play for philly?

Anyone know if the TSN1050 interview with Nonis will be up anywhere soon?

God I really hope that is what happened.

The management realized that they needed more time to rebuild, and that burke made it next to impossible to go for a real rebuild with him at the head.

Put nonis in and you can rebuild the proper way, move out veterans and continue to stock prospects without feeling any heat for another year or two.

Lu wont waive to be a #2... Bryz would cost $23M to buyout, not going to happen.

Philly can overpay them... Not us...

At this point our best option is to trade the likes of Lupul/MacA/Komi/Lambo/Connolly/Steckel for picks to teams that want a expiring contracts for a cup push while the cap is at 70.2 (Det,Bos,Phi,Pit,Was,SJ,Van, Chi etc etc).

Keep all our youth and play them to see what we have then try to get an extra 1st and a few 2nds for this draft and finally try to lure a FA by throwing a brinks truck at him.

That would be quite the move for Philly. Bizarre, even for them.

How foolish would they look though signing a guy for 9 years (IIRC) and then buying him out just because they can without any cap penalty 2 years later.
