The entire organization, from the owner down to the broadcasters, refuses to acknowledge the elephant in the room. They should be replacing everyone who has ever interacted with Kakko and Laf and restart them in the AHL. Instead, they won’t even acknowledge there’s a problem here.

It's not the kids that are the elephant in the room. It's not their team to carry, yet. The Elephant is the multitude of A's on huge contracts that like pond hockey and management that have failed to address issues like center for years.

Posted this in the Kakko thread:

Fun fact: If Kakko busts, that'll be 9 straight top 10 picks that have either busted or had their relationship with the team demo'd.

Manny Malhotra (1998), Pavel Brendl (1999), Jamie Lundmark (1999), Dan Blackburn (2001), Al Montoya (2004), Dylan McIlrath (2010), Lias Andersson (2017), Vitali Kravtsov (2018).

Arguably 11 straight depending on your view of Nicklas Sundstrom (1993) (add him and Jayson More (1987) to the list). 10 or 12 straight if Lafreniere busts too.

The streak ends there... With Brian f***ing Leetch (1986).

That is so depressing lol.

Kakko dominated in Finland and was very good in WC. I would have bet anything he could come straight into the league and be effective. I was so wrong. It's baffling. I know it's early, I still have faith he'll be a great player, but right now I am just dumbfounded.

I think rangers just deflated. Blais took care of chytil for them and then negated that goal. Our depth got exposed and we lost. Im not surprised. Credit to calgary, they are really good this year. As for our team... who is our leader? Fox? It seems so. Trouba was not bad for me tonight, more covering for miller. Laf had looks, but man does he just struggle with skating. Like his puck skills are good, but he doesnt have any speed to do anything with it. Kakko shot into markstrom when he had the space and time to pick his location. We will have bad games like this and i think its carried over from yesterday. If chytil is out longterm (an unfortunate but seemingly increasing trend year by year), you need a replacement and i cant convince myself barron will do much better. We need a trade. Trade for someone who can lead. Id say toews... but thats terrible pr and also just wouldnt want a guy complacent in the whole kyle beach fiasco /disgusting coverup. Another issue i have is insulation. You bet on the kids this year- why is strome on pp1? They scored pp goals against the worst pk's in the league (vancouver/seattle... right?) and koskinen who is a mess. I dont want to hear ab strome being good blah blah blah. He really isnt this year. Panarin again with overcomplicating things. And i know why. Kakko and him dont work. They dont feed off each other and its like we have really good tools that dont work. They definetely are closer this year, but closer doesnt mean cohesive. The 4th line has been setting the tone, not the 1st nor the 2nd. Hell, the 3rd has been better. If all we are is a defense first team, we arent gonna be good. Last year our gameplan was collapse the blue line and counter off the rush. That worked for panarin bc of his stretch pass. Now it seems like he is always locked up by two players, which should mean kakko and strome would be open, but kakko never recieves a pass from him and when he does, he mishandles it. I like kakko, i see the skill and he had some looks tonight, but its year 3 man. You cant play like this and expect to be a star. Become assertive and take charge. Also, an additional note: this is the first time in forever hartford is decent. Our prospects are developing there and we will see callups eventually, but the team is so young and looks like it.

I think they are both major issues that need to be addressed yesterday.

Bedard and Michkov will be nothing after they’ve been through the meat grinder that is the Rangers development program.

Me too. He and Lafreniere just both looked like such sure things in their predraft years. And they get here and look like this. It's dumbfounding, astonishing, and incredible at the same time.

There's something really, really wrong here.

That was so terrible. What makes games like this unbearable is two announcers who refuse to say talk about how bad it is. Doesn't management realize that when our own announcers pretend like it's not that bad it makes them sound like they don't care? It reallllllly breaks whatever bond an announcing team is supposed to have with a fanbase.

But you'd think being down 3-0 the team would at least show up in the 3rd and show something. And you'd think Gallant would put Kakko on another line for more than 1 f'ing shift when you have 15 minutes to experiment. Very very very disappointed in the whole situation right now. Too many really bad decisions going on with coaching and management right now.

The team is broken because whatever system they're supposed to play, few of them are committing to it. It's a disjointed mess with on buy-in. We keep relying on the same vets, the same damn players that got us nowhere last year. If we're going to look like hot garbage at least give the kids more opportunity.

Nemeth and Tinordi are only going to look good on a team that has tremendous buy-in. Same with Trouba and Miller. Same with Goodrow and Hunt.

The only thing I know for sure right now -- watching this team is not good for any fan's health. It's not a team at all in fact. It's just a bunch of guys who happen to be wearing the same color uniform.

I would love the equivalent of Gary Keith and Ron covering the Rangers when we are dreadful. Those guys make stinkers bearable and hold both teams on the field accountable to the same standard.

MSG blowing smoke up our ass since 98. All the way back to Messier 2.0 guaranteeing the playoffs and signing every washed up bum to a Sunset contract

Trouba was an eye sore, Laf's puck skills are awesome if you don't care about him holding the stick improperly and sawing off his passes, and if trading for a 10 mil leader is your solution you should try again.

The only First rounder from the rebuild era somewhat living up to his potential rn is Kandre (kinda Chytil but hes been a bit disappointing). Like how is that even possible.

Salary retention is a thing you know and i was simply going off an example of the type of player they need. What do you expect trouba to do? Honestly? Hes good at defense, not amazing and plays like a 2nd pair d. The problem is his offense is very meh. On a team like the jets, they had offense up the wazoo. We have no puck moving d rn save for fox. What would be your play?

It's the team's emphasis on grit and defense.

I said it going back to Quinn.

They are telling these kids to stop playing offense to first make sure they are responsible defensively. That is 1000% what Quinn was telling the kids, probably at the behest of management but perhaps because it's Quinn's philosophy as well. They are grinding the skill out of these kids. Kravtsov is not here because he's not as good at grinding as Hunt, Reaves and Blais, not cause he isn't better than them at everything else.

I don't know about Gallant's history before here, I heard it was up-tempo, but the team spent all offseason trading away it's best chips or expending it's best assets, that it could have used to get difference making-centers, to instead acquire non-difference making bottom six grinders that are available for scraps at literally every single trade deadline.

So you know the order from above is defense, defense, defense.

Hell, the team can't stop drafting defense in every damn round unless a franchise player is sitting in it's lap in the top 10. And yet they cant' defend either.

The team has a backwards, 1990s style philosophy and it starts with the man who is still pulling the strings up there sitting next to Dolan. And when Gorton and JD deviated too far from his skill-less tough guy ideology he canned them.

If we want the dynamic of this team to change, it's quite simple....

Put the kids, Laf and Kakko and Fox and Lindgren in the driver's seat. Play them in all big situations and tell them you're relying on them to win you games, see what they're made of. They can't lead if they're being forced to play 2nd and 3rd fiddle to guys we know can't lead us to the next level because they're ultimately coach killers.

This is what should have been happening for the past two f***ing years.

f*** the playoffs.

Develop the kids.

Period.

We don't need god damn playoff experience, we need the kids to become offensive-minded stars first. Everything else is distant second.

Again, I like Panarin being here. Because he can pass the bejesus out of the puck to Laf and Kakko and set them up. That should be his directive from today forward.

Defensive responsibility should be taught after mastering the harder skills, ie, scoring with prevalence.
