I don't think the drivers of cars have gotten any safer. I get two or so attempts on my life every day I have to take my kids to school/commute to work.

I'm looking forward to self driving cars myself.

Drunk driving at all times of the day is waaaaaayyyyyyyyyy down from where it once was, so on that front alone drivers themselves have gotten safer.
