The thing is, team is 6-2-3. New coach, a lot of new personnel. Gallant has had past success with young players and teams. I am willing to wait him out and trust him. In time, I think Gallant will make adjustments. He is not an analytics guy. I trust his feel for things. I do not think he is just taking an “optimal” lineup and forcing Kakko to be with Panarin-Strome. I dont see that last all season or even half the season.

I honestly have no f***ing clue how we're 6-2-3

The Panarin/Strome brolationship needs to come to an end. Uncle Larry hinted last season those two were causing problems with DQ by not wanting to play apart from each other, not wanting to play north/south etc. I do wonder if that cliquishness is reverberating down to Kakko and Lafreniere and, if so, just send Strome packing right now. As good as Panarin is and as much as he is getting paid he shouldn't need Ryan ******* Strome attached to his hip to be able to play well.
Absolutely. Both guys have been dogging it and playing grab ass with each other. If it's insisted they play together, put a plumber like Goodrow or Blais on that line. Kakko is being totally wasted and ruined there.

I can't imagine the last two COVID seasons have made things easier on Laf and Kakko. The fact that they were essentially drafted to a non-basement team changes things. They haven't exactly been placed into positions that make them the go-to guys.

Look at what Stutzle has done with Ottawa. At the same time, what other choice does Ottawa have than to give him those minutes?

As for Cherapanov, you can't really fault anyone in particular for that other than the KHL staff. Between the blood doping and the EMTs leaving the game, it's just neglect.
The thing is that neither are really in positions to succeed. See my post above on Kakko. He's being ruined with Panarin and Strome. Lafreniere I'm starting to get the impression has that "too cool for school" mentality that thinks he's hot shit and knows it all already, when in reality he still has a shit ton to learn. He has the talent, but God, he looks awful out there for someone that was lauded as having a really high hockey IQ leading up to his draft. What's wrong here?

They'll make the playoffs eventually one of these years. Anything goes once you are in.

So, you can't mean the 5th or 6th goal as that was 2 of the best players in the world one on one with him. The third goal Barrie was allowed to skate in from the point with a screen and snap it into the corner.

Definite blame to be attached on goals 1, 2 and 4, but on the 6 goals there really was plenty of blame to be passed around

Yes that OT goal was trash. Believe it or not every shot Draisaitl takes isn't amazing. You don't just absolve the goalie on it because it was him. I'm not even blaming the first goal on him or the fifth. Everything else was garbage. Also, the third goal he was so badly out of position he looked like a peewee goalie.

The bolded was, for me, the most infuriating moment of the whole game and that's saying a lot. Seriously, that was so disturbing. Gallant is ruining the kid by keeping with two guys who won't play with him. It's going to destroy KK. You signed Goodrow just to transform Kaapo Kakko into another Goodrow??? Disgusting.

Gallant needs to bench panarin or strome for that nonsense and they need to move Kakko off that line.

Noticed this too. He also got two passes in his skates, at least one from Panarin.

I know, I know, Panarin is amazing and all that but his passing has been atrocious this season. Far be it from me to judge how a superstar athlete prepares for games but if he's fighting it i'd like to see him at least show up to ONE optional morning skate. Pretty sure he was the only forward not there this morning. Even if he doesn't need it, it sets a precedent for the younger guys.

what upsets me is that if you build it the right way, you set yourself up to compete for a long time. with the way we had one foot in and one foot out in the rebuild, we were not patient enough. now we're lucky if we get a crack or two at it.

now the chickens have come home to roost.

At this point I want to see LAF with a permanent Buch face.

I'm tired of seeing that kid in school who laughs at all of your jokes. No matter how bad they are.

I think that's why Gallant demoted him after his poor game against Vancouver, to wake him up. It's a start. This is on the "vets" too, both Laf and Kakko need thicker skin and not take the Mean Girls' BS at face value. The girls are looking out for #1 - themselves, the kids need to stand up for themselves that's part of growing up.

100%. I actually warmed up to Strome, but when he openly contradicts his coach in the media in close succession - you don't want kids seeing that. Especially top tier talent you already have a bit of an ego.

I'll come out and say it right now, I actually liked Laf on the 4th to go out and bang bodies and hustle. But he actually seemed to feed off that he was the most offensive minded on there. Obviously that's not the end game for him but kid, pull up your god damn socks.

Rangers bussed it down here tonight I would think to get the travel out of the way and just crash for the night. At least that's what I'd prefer.

I like that Gallant is standing up for his players but the truth is that was a very innocuous question from one of the team's regular reporters and he could have achieved the same positive goal (standing up and boosting Lafreniere) without the hostility.

It doesn't bother me personally. I like Gallant and I get emotions are running high after a game like that but given his penchant for unceremonious exits it would behoove him to rein it in quickly when it comes to his dealings with the NY media.

Yes, but the team has lots of growing up to do. The way we choke in all our OT's doesn't give me confidence we could handle the playoffs, yet.
