in fairness, it's actually 6-5. 6-2-3 is still 5 losses.
in this silly NHL points system, all losses are not created equal. Since they use a point system, to suggest a 6-5 record would indicate 12 points....which isnt the case. Gotta focus on points instead of wins/losses. This team has at least one point in every road game so far this season....not too shabby even if their play is leaving much to be desired.

The thing is that neither are really in positions to succeed. See my post above on Kakko. He's being ruined with Panarin and Strome. Lafreniere I'm starting to get the impression has that "too cool for school" mentality that thinks he's hot shit and knows it all already, when in reality he still has a shit ton to learn. He has the talent, but God, he looks awful out there for someone that was lauded as having a really high hockey IQ leading up to his draft. What's wrong here?

That's exactly it. The coaching staff really needs to evaluate where these players are going to develop and succeed. In my opinion, winning games is useless for us right now if it's at the expense of developing the young players we'll need to step up for the real window.

For Kakko, it's been pretty clear the place he'll develop is not with Strome and Panarin. He can't be a passenger, and he needs to be called on to take the initiative.

I still don't get why Lafreniere was demoted. Laf - Chytil - Blais was a good line for us.

I get the idea of wanting Laf to round out his game, but send him to Hartford to do that for a few weeks--not the 4th line. Give him all-situations minutes and give him the experience of what it means to be "the guy" in professional hockey.

I like that Gallant is standing up for his players but the truth is that was a very innocuous question from one of the team's regular reporters and he could have achieved the same positive goal (standing up and boosting Lafreniere) without the hostility.

It doesn't bother me personally. I like Gallant and I get emotions are running high after a game like that but given his penchant for unceremonious exits it would behoove him to rein it in quickly when it comes to his dealings with the NY media.

We need a little drama. It's been a few weeks since the last bout.

Its hard to hear Mollie's question -- so maybe someone can clarify -- was she questioning Laf's game? Or the fact that he didn't get hardly any ice? I thought she was trying to get at the fact that Laffy played well enough to see more ice but was maybe trying to not be confrontational with the coach (and it backfired).

I think it is and it's been for a good while.
and...like most people (talking from past experience too)....people DO NOT like to stay around in a toxic workplace. its either we change the toxic workplace, or the people don't stay in the toxic workplace. the nuclear alarms should be going off for this franchise right now if it isn't dealt with immediately.

Yes that OT goal was trash. Believe it or not every shot Draisaitl takes isn't amazing. You don't just absolve the goalie on it because it was him. I'm not even blaming the first goal on him or the fifth. Everything else was garbage. Also, the third goal he was so badly out of position he looked like a peewee goalie.

So, we iced it when we didn't need to, Mika was slipping and sliding around the ice and the guy was in with every option under the sun no Ranger near him and the goalie was to blame? Laughable. Draisaitl had his pick of things to do.

well...when the system is based on "PoInTs!", it kinda matters, no?
dont be facetious, they are lucky to have those points the way they've played.

there are issues that run deeper than this team getting points and getting lucky to go on some kind of miracle run. you can focus on the fact they have points, but it is not telling the full story.

Yes, but the team has lots of growing up to do. The way we choke in all our OT's doesn't give me confidence we could handle the playoffs, yet.
Right, but if this team manages to make the playoffs this year then they would have had to correct a few things. No team makes the playoffs in this Metro on a fluke.

They started this summer but it's clearly a work in progress.

ah yes, well when you put it that way. but people will still harp on the fact that "PoInTs!"

Ummmm, I guess this is the NBA where there are just wins and losses. If you don't think points matter I don't know what to tell you. The team won one game in pond hockey and lost three, which won't be a thing in the playoffs if they make. Mocking points makes you look silly.

Better audio of Gallant and Mollie.

Yeah I mean I don’t have a problem with this. He’s tired of the constant media criticism of Lafreniere. He wants the kid to put his head down and work through it. Every day is questions about Lafreniere and the endless media criticism and harping on him is not good for him so Gallant is trying to cut it off. Definitely comes off a bit grumpy but I get it.

For real. Mollie didn't even get her whole question out. Gallant's reaction is very telling, IMO. He's worried about him.

as much as i didnt like quinn, maybe the real trojan horse is zib, panarin, and strome that refuse to buy into how you have to play to win. thats what scares me, because for better or worse, we're stuck with at least two of the toxic three.

But what he ended it up doing it, it was a garbage goal. I really don't care that it was Draisaitl it wasn't a good goal to allow. It's possible that if by some miracle we were in OT with Igor and Draisaitl had the same opportunity he'd done something else and scored, but that's a hypothetical. What we saw a shot along the ice right through Georgiev's legs. That doesn't mean no one else screwed on that play. But no one lost us the game singlehandedly like Georgiev.

Goodrow-Zib-Kreider works. We won't see Goodrow go to 10-16 line. Blais works with Chytil. Kakko needs to go to the kid line.

Eight road games this season, and at least a point in each. Sure, we all would love to see them dominate...or at least outplay the opponent. Lacking that, then what is best? You wanna lose cause we arent playing as good as we think they can? What's the old saying...."I'd rather be lucky than Good"....I'll take the points since they dont give out style points.

Whether he’s worried about him or not he looks at Lafreneire as a 20 year old kid who hasn’t even played 70 games in the league yet. With the draft position and expectations he knows the media criticism is turned up to 11 on Laffy. He can see when an avalanche of controversy is just over the horizon and he’s trying to cut it off.

That's what I'm saying you're mocking points, when points are what determines seeding in the NHL. And somehow 6-2-3 is the same as 6-5 in your book. The three losses came in pond hockey (and one win did too).
