I hate that for Staal but man it’s been in the making for a while now..

Not sure if it’s going to a be more fuel to a fire or maybe a reconciliation point, but IMHO Lindren played the type of game we would like to see from Staal (and let’s leave his salary to another discussion). Simple, a bit physical and effective. Stay behind and support your more offensive RD.

So especially to me it makes sense to put good play by Lindgren and absence of negative play by Staal in the same spot. I’m far from holding advance stats as gospel but it’s like viewing a position improvement where a negative 15% rel with positivity 15%, i.e. one combined contributing factor.

Say what you want about Strome but he's played really well lately.

Fox with his 1st career goal. Lindgren with his 1st career point. Life is good.

I attribute it to a slowing in his reflexes with age. Lundqvist’s rebound control has been slowly deteriorating for awhile. It used to be one of his prime strengths.
Yeah and this is a big reason why he’s not elite anymore. He still is a good blocker but this is why he needs a structured defensive team around him. I really think if you dropped him onto a team that plays very smart in the defensive zone like *barf* the Islanders *barf* or Vegas or a team like that he could probably put up elite numbers still.

To me I see it like this: his days of propping up a subpar defense are behind him but he is still an above average goalie overall and could absolutely still be a difference maker with a decent defensive team in front of him. Like if you dropped him onto Vegas right now I think we’d see him putting up great numbers like MAF does for them.

Yeah, this thread has been real bearable. It's a pleasure.

I love explaining to people in 2019 that Staal is bad.
I mean, you also could just... not?

Chytil looked great, Georgiev looked great, I really liked Lindgren-Fox together, Skjei looked pretty good too

I'm sure everyone has covered most of this, but a few parting thoughts:

- Kakko probably played his best game of the year. In the 1st period I thought he was guilty of the same old problems (i.e., trying to do too much and turning the puck over), but he settled down in periods 2 and 3 and was a force

- Fox is astonishingly good. So cool and calm in his own zone. Amazing breakout passes, zone exits/zone entries. Great defending with his smarts and his stick. I cannot wait to see how he develops; if all goes right this guy could be super star.

- Goal aside - if Chytil plays like that consistently, then we have our 50 point 2C. There was a lot to be happy about today, but nothing made me smile more than the compete level he showed through all three periods. So effing glad he got rewarded with a goal, and a spectacular one at that.

- Georgiev might be a top 15 goalie in the league...is that a crazy thing to say?

- I actually thought Strome had a rough game...bad passes, a bunch of mishandles...it happens, easier to forgive after the game he had against Buffalo

Gotta give Haley #3 star. Georgiev easily #1, what a performance....hope this makes Hank pick up his game, we could have a great goaltending duo here for the next year or so with these 2. Scored 3 goals against the best goalie in the league without our best scorer, not bad, give Quinn some credit.

Oh well, then you will have to trade Shesterkin, no chance he'll stay here to play in the AHL...

Would have been nice to watch this one but hey thanks PG&E and California power outages

at any rate, Tampa may not be at the top of their game but still a good team with dangerous players and the Rangers played well

Call Erin Brockovich!

I think it is becoming clear that Georgie is the new #1.
Not a knock on Hank, but the kid is just better right now. He is calm, always in position and makes tough saves look routine. I hope he can keep it up!
I am seeing this too, so far. That glove has is a black hole. I trust Henrik will handle it with grace. They can split the games this year anyhow. No need for any massive upheaval but they’ll need to squeeze in Shesterkin too, at some point. The way he’s playing.
