Yep, baby steps.

This team is only for the patient fans, so like, 12 of us.

It's gonna be a process, this early I'm not gonna worry while the team is still being formed. Some players are getting too much ice, some too little. Once that gets balanced out I expect to see some consistency.

again. sorry for pointing out the flaws in one of our players.

I guess point out Lundqvist's bad rebound control, puck handing and weakness to deflections is nitpicking.

Thanks man. Any chance you are hosting a webinar sometime on this topic? I just hope to one day be as smart as you and be able to run to these here game threads and make post after post about Lundqvist because Ill be so much smarter then all these nub blind homer Hank lovers!

Ville HATED when there was no chocolate on the plane.

I'd dress Asham and sit Pyatt next game, though I know that won't happen

i agree....Pyatt was really bad.....overall there were some good things to work off of....its gonna be a long season...esp till around turkey day....i expect them to start picking up steam in Dec and take off from there

Yeah.

Tonight was frustrating, it could really be a tough start, but I'm not going to give up hope a game, or even 20 games in. There were some flashes of great play tonight, and there were some stretches of horrible, mind numbing plays. Sounds pretty standard for a team who changed coaches and is banged up.

Still think the Rangers are one of the better teams in the league. Might take some time for it all to come together, but it's obviously still very early. Lundqvist always seems to start slow, as well.

Rangers dominated much of the game early, awful in the third period. It's early, wouldn't panic. Lundqvist always starts slow, so this crappy game doesn't worry me. Remember, last year everyone wanted to trade Stepan until he caught fire in the last twenty games.

They do play terrible in front of their net, however. And there is far, far too much dead wood on the team.

Everyone is bashing Miller, he plays like he's afraid he'll be benched if he makes one mistake. Needs to play more instinctively and let the chips fall where they may.

Know Kreider deserved to be sent down, but they need his speed and size. Can he be worse than Taylor Pyatt?

Why? He had a great camp and he was fine tonight.
Yes he did have a good camp but to be fair he didnt play well tongiht. But he wasnt alone a lot of guys didnt show up either. I mean he had one good scoring chance but i have to give credit to richards who for once made a sick pass

I think Boyle was dog-doo tonight.

Same for Pyatt and

Well, I'm getting close to cutting bait on Del Z. Step wasn't great... Nash was largely invisible. Our best line was easily Brass hobbit and pouliot.

Defense joining play fun to watch... Bad for score.

Flame away.

I'm on a hockey forum. Am I not suposed to express my opinion about hockey?

I ****ing love Hank. I'm just irritated by people letting a lot of his mistakes slide, while other players (Del Zotto, Nash etc.) will get torn apart for every little slip up.

Feel free to disagree with my opinion. I don't think I'm smarter than everyone, I just think that this is something a lot of people are wrong about. But hey, if that's how you want to interpret what I'm saying, it's fine with me.

It's frustrating to lose opening night but we knew there would be some bumps as they adjust to AV's system.

Judging purely off tonight:

Staal was our best defenseman. Richards was the best player on his line and looked great, Zucc looked very strong as well. Pyatt was out there way too often. John Moore was a bit shaky tonight, that second goal he should've gotten the puck out of the zone, ice it if he had to knowing G and McD were out there for the whole PK.

Agreed, very much so. I think there's quite a few positives to take from this game, within it's context.

Yes the PK wasn't good, who excepted it to be? Staal looks at the very least as good as last year; Richards looks a million times better than last year. The only player I thought looked worse was Stepan, for obvious (and temporary) reasons.

PP looked much better. Transition game much better. They're obviously still adjusting. It's not magic, you don't just hire a new coach and the team instantly knows his system well. Creativity on offense, albeit sloppy, but that will also improve. My only concern is that they can make it out of this trip at .500 while still working out the kinks. Alright, they lost, move on; They have 81 more chances to redeem themselves.

With the new coach, ridiculous 'preseason', and road heavy start I'm not aiming high with lofty Cup contending expectations. Lets have a winning streak of two, thatd be a start. Playing on home ice would be nice too.

Henke starting slow, starting fast, whatever, he's the least of our worries. The team still doesn't look like a team. That's what he's seeing in front of him.

Would you send Miller down before Fast?

Based solely off of tonight, yes. But Fast is wasted playing on the line he's currently on. Might fair better in Miller's spot. Miller will be alright though. And it could have just been first game jitters.

I have to wonder though, how Vigneault justifies giving Pyatt more TOI than Nash, who was actually 10th or 11th in total TOI tonight. Not sure I get that. I didn't like his game, but if you want him to be visible, he should probably be on the ice. He had 15:13. Staal and Del Zotto were the pairing on the ice the most tonight, btw. Staal played 25+

I think for now Miller needs to be off the 1st PP unit. I agree, Pyatt was out there way too much. Nash wasn't doing much, but he really didn't get too much ice time either, as you pointed out. He needs to be out there more.

Stepan looked sluggish, holding out was a mistake obviously. Hopefully he can regain form soon, we can't afford a slow start from him with Cally and Hags out.

The big positives tonight for me were that Staal and Richards both looked very good. Richards was playing with confidence, man, if he can get back to where he was 2 years ago or where he was in Dallas then our offense will be quite good.

Only one game but it certainly followed the preseason trends. D zone coverage is a mess. Stepan's rust already cost em one goal when he left chipchura wide open in front. Its going to stay bad before it gets better IMO. Still adapting to the new coach.

Pyatt is his buddy dating back to Vancouver. AV is playing favorites already to the detriment of the team.
