Lundqvist needs to step up his game.

Although a lot you will continue to blame every goal on everything but him, saying that nobody could have saved it

And you will continue to nitpick after ever goal and act like you are so intellectually superior to everyone that doesn't need to run here and scream LUNDQVIST! after every questionable goal. :shakehead

Played a good team on the road on opening night without our captain in a new system with a new coach etc and struggled. Shocker, Ill panic when theres no progression a few games from now.

Nash was consistently more involved than Gaborik was for us. The issue is that it's only a handful of guys who will look scary every single game.

I don't even care that they struggled. I care that they just ****ing gave up after that Vrbata goal. And I can't stand Mike Smith. One bit.

He was on pace for 40+ goals last year and 80+ points.......

I don't care if he was on pace to score 80, he blows in the playoffs. He's a loser. Congrats that you like players who don't show up for the big dance

Well, the between period chats were fun with you guys. I'll spend a lot more time here post-game when I don't have to be up for work in 6 hours. For now, I'll just say this. One game. New coach. Still a team that really hasn't played a ton together. Not worried.

Lack effort and offense, they played like they didn't care, well, like always. I'm not going to take this game too seriously considering there learning a new system and we're missing 2 key players. I just hope our problems last year are problems this year. Disappointed in the effort, expected much more than tonight, but its the first game of the season.

One other thing, I'm worried about Hank, he's given up a lot of goals in the pre-season and tonight, regardless wether the goals are his fault or not I'm just surprised he's given up so much, thats not the goalie we know.

Players of the game goes to Staal and Zuccarello.

okay buddy.
I'm sorry for not being blinded by my fandom.

yes, every chance is a skaters fault. And every goal is a save the goalie didn't make. When you give up 4 goals against weak offensive game, somebody's doing something wrong.

Rick Nash fighting is what happens when Derek Dorsett is the toughest guy on the team. I love that he fought, but that's not something he should have to do.

Staal looked sharp for the most part.

Richards didn't look like a steaming turd, which is good.

Stepan, not surprisingly, looked rusty.

Various brain farts by various players. Not worth going into. Aside from the obvious growing pains from learning a new system, the problems we saw (PENALTIES) should be fixed without much trouble.

Good

Not a lot. Staal looks like he's going to have a strong season. Del Zotto looks like he's going to be very involved in the offense. Richards looked better than last year. I wouldn't say he had a "good" game, but definitely good by the standards we've come to expect from him. Zuccarello looked good all game. Thought he was the best forward. Pouliot could be a pleasant surprise, but should be on the third line when we're healthy. If he can give us 15 goals and 35+ points from there, it will be nice. At times, before we really imploded, our transition game looked better and we played with a better tempo. We just didn't seem to know how to sustain it or seemed uncomfortable sticking to it. At least we saw consistent lines and can hope our team can develop some chemistry this year. Right now they have NONE. So many passes go to no one or are off the mark. Pucks are bobbled, bounce of sticks. We just don't "click". Maybe, when healthy, with set lines, we will.

Bad

I was actually a bit disappointed with both Moores. After the preseason I expected them to be better, especially J. Moore. He wasn't bad, but he wasn't good either. Dominic was fairly invisible. Hank's performance, paired with the preseason, is slightly worrisome, but he's a historically slow starter. The in zone coverage on defense and our ability to clear were AWFUL. Our PK was sloppy, but okay in limiting the quality of chances. Unfortunately it was not okay in getting the puck out and the pressure off so they were always gassed and paid for it. Stepan looks quite rusty. Nash was invisible for 95% of the game, but I actually thought he came alive AFTER Phoenix's third goal and he had a couple of shots, a good centering feed and showed more jump and intensity. Then Phoenix scored their fourth on his turnover and the whole team became deflated. It was nice to see some grit from Nash at the end, but he needs to come out of the gate more riled up for the season opener and be an offensive leader on this team. Brassard looked good early but disappeared and took some really poor shots later on. Miller just doesn't look like he has the proper poise to be in the NHL yet. Boyle is a good penalty killer but he had a rough game. The broken sticks are outside of his control but supremely frustrating. Pyatt, in my opinion, is useless. I really don't think Fast can be properly utilized while paired with those two. If you take a guy who has certain strengths and play him with two players that nullify those strengths, you're not going to get much results. They need to move Fast to a different line. Maybe switch him and MIller, who struggled anyhow. Girardi looked terrible at first, good in the middle of the game and bad again late, especially with the late penalty. People underrate the Coyotes. Oh well, that's one. Can't wait for Cally to be back. Apparently we're gonna miss Hags for at least 10 games, but hopefully when our forwards are healthy we'll see less Pyatt and Boyle.

Yea, thats exactly what I said. Just a blind homer here guys! :help:

Power Play actually looked like it had a plan tonight, finished on one of them, but Miller had a break away on the one at the end, they had the great chance in the first on the 2 on 1 with Pouilot and Brassard and Richards ripping one timers wasn't bad either.

Yep, baby steps.

This team is only for the patient fans, so like, 12 of us.

It's gonna be a process, this early I'm not gonna worry while the team is still being formed. Some players are getting too much ice, some too little. Once that gets balanced out I expect to see some consistency.
