There's about 50 wingers on pace for 45 points this season. How many do you think are going to be available for free?
At least 15 in unrestricted free agency, probably quite a few more via trade for a lot less than a 1st+3rd, not to mention all the guys who are on pace for less than that this season but have produced at that level in the past and all the guys who could put up similar numbers if they were used in the same way Zetterlund has been by the Sharks.

Which makes trading down for Bystedt and co horrible in hindsight
I can't hold that against Grier. Even if he was the one who made the call for the trade, it was still DW Jr.'s draft, his scouting, and Grier didn't have any of his people in place since he'd just been hired himself. Blame that on the organization for not getting their shit together sooner in hiring Grier.

Is the board really crashing out because we didn't get great value for Fabian Zetterlund?

This was objectively a very fruitful and successful trade deadline season for the Sharks, Zetterlund is a fine 3rd liner and a great culture guy but he's functionally just the player some people thought Luke Kunin is, he's fungible, his presence or lack thereof will not make or break this rebuild

We got awesome value out of Walman, Granlund, Ceci, Kunin and Sturm and even going back to Blackwood, Mike Grier has capitalized on his assets in a very impressive manner, I don't like this trade either but it doesn't mean this deadline is suddenly a bust, I think this being the sneaky last-second deal is coloring a lot of perceptions in an overly negative light, we had an awesome trade deadline even if this trade was kind of stupid

Someone made a joke in a recent game thread I think (might have been roster discussion) about Grier getting Gregor at the deadline and ruining our chance of finishing last… I blame whoever that was.
I literally said "welcome home, Noah Gregor" as a joke when I heard Zetterlund was going to Ottawa, went to lunch, and then came back to see Gregor's name when I refreshed the page.

I need to stop joking, or make the correct jokes. Welcome to San Jose, Cale Makar!
