Prob his cockiness.

He also isn’t the “norm” in terms of hockey players…. He’s got a big personality(for better or worse), where most star players are pretty boring/uninteresting.

Those aspects are going to make him a very popular player, but he’s also going to get a lot of haters for the same reasons.

Goes both ways. His interview between periods last night he took close to full accountability for his occasional lack of discipline. Explained that he's really invested in games and that when things aren't going well he has a tendency to lose his temper and that's something he's actively trying to work on. Can't find the clip so I'm paraphrasing but in essence, he was pretty blunt about his own shortcomings. He can definitely be a cocky and mouthy shit, but him being so outgoing and verbose lets him show he isn't a robot and still has some good character mixed in there.

Edit: well I found this where he basically said the same thing.
“It’s not going great,” Zegras said Thursday. “I think sometimes I get pretty emotional out there and I don’t handle it the best way. It’s something I’ve been working on. It’s something I’ve been trying to get better at.

“It’s definitely affecting the way I play. Affecting the team. It’s just stupid to take penalties like that. I deserve every second that I sat on the bench after I did that. It’s a terrible habit that I’ve had for a long time.”

It's a cool goal. I like Zegras though I shouldn't :P But that is some of the most controller-disconnected defense I've seen in a highlight in a while. Silly Dunn.

Being a Ducks fan this season, our D has been so bad, we've been on the other side of that way too often, lol. Was nice for once to be the goal scoring team this time around.

He reminds me a bit of Ryan Getzlaf. People were also saying he is nothing special until their teams meet Ducks in the playoffs.
They are nothing alike from a physical stand point. Getzlaf is extremely hard.

Zegras is a great talent, his production is fantastic especially on such a bad team. The ducks are being built slowly yet surely, another top end player coming this draft. Just need some patience.

He has the potential to be a ppg player, thats pretty unreal. He isnt a superstar talent in the mold of Hughes, Stutzle etc as he doesnt have the elite skating but he is one tier down. Which at 9th OA in a draft is a hell of a pick.

He's Kane without his brain.

I think it's more technical....Zegras needs to work on putting more touch on his passes, Kane has great touch. I think Zegras puts too much velo on his passes and they bounce over his teammates sticks. Zegras has good placement though so that area is fine.

If the Ducks can get the 3rd or 4th pick, those passes might start going to guys that can handle them too. On this team, I'd say Terry and McTavish are the only ones who can/will be able to pretty routinely catch those high velocity passes. Hopefully a Fantilli/Carlsson/Mitchkov has the coordination to get those. Higher speed means a better chance of reaching the target through NHL level d-men.

Zegras is immature and will never be the type of player you win with. He’s more concerned with his hair and pulling off a highlight reel goal than actually winning hockey games. Maybe that changes with time but yes as of now he is quite unimpressive and doesn’t deserve any of the attention he garners.

Didn't he just lead his team to a gold medal at the WJC? With a goal and assist in the gold medal game?

Yeah you’re right he’ll probably act 18 for the rest of his life. Kids these days amirite

Canucks played him last night and i gotta agree with the OP.

Zegras is trying to cheat for offence, and plays a very soft perimeter game .

This is the problem when playing for tanking teams, young players create very very bad habbits that sometimes becomes very hard to erase.

He is "creative" when he is scoring and but he is "too fancy" when what he is trying fails, which often or not it did last night.

He turns 22 next week...The Ducks gotta be careful with how much longer they want to be perennial tankers, i dont see this being good for Zegras for another year in regards to his long term development.

The attention he is getting is becuase he literally was the key player to a gold medal usa team. This whole "you wont win with him" narritive is silly.

I imagine patrick kane got a lot of the same things said about him.

Zegras is immature, no one will argue that... but acting like he isnt motivated to win is just hating at that point.

You were better off just saying " i dont like zegras so im going to make up false, ridiculous claims about his play"

I don’t like Zegras you’re correct. I don’t think he should be the face of the NHL games I think the NHL is totally wrong in marketing this kid at all. He’s cocky and immature we’ve seen many instances where he runs his mouth and he’s clearly a coward who can’t back it up. He’s playing in a period where the league protects him from any repercussions for his actions and he knows it. The kid needs to be absolutely tuned up and he got Troy Terry beat up for it instead. The barstool article hits the nail on the head, he’s playing on crap team and would be stapled to the bench if he was pulling this stuff on any sort of competitive team. As an oilers fan I’ve seen it before when young talent is given free reign to do what they want Eberle and Hall were floaters their entire tenure here and never took the team anywhere I can see the same story unfolding in Anaheim.

Lol you lost all credibility when you said he’d be stapled to the bench on a competitive team. “Pulling this crap” lmao reeks of old man, I guess your frustration makes sense though
