Quick is back in under 3 months

No need to get a Miller or other big name

Kuemper could be a fit

Exactly. If they're going to acquire a goalie they'd best grab someone they can later flip to another team or send to Ontario for the rest of the season.

Whoever they aquire is likely better than Zatkoff/Budaj and should stay up . Zatkoff was not good in Pittsburgh no idea how anyone thought he was a capeable backup . Its like when Dallas aquired Lindbäck after he was terrible in Tampa. Well suprise suprise he was awful in Dallas too and forced us to ride a super inconsistent Lehtonen no matter if he needed a break or had an awful stretch.

Ahhh so this is the year you trade for another meh player at the deadline when you are on the outside looking in, miss the playoffs and get further into your eventual rebuild without a top pick? I thought that's what you meant.

Getting chirped by a Canucks fan about the black hole, how quaint.

Really though no assets left to cough up, and there's none of that "we're only one year removed from a Cup" alibi to lean on, DL has fully committed to stocking assets and retooling, and between this being the 50th anniversary year and next year's expansion draft, I don't see anything desperate happening. I think it's somewhat safe to assume that at LEAST ONE of Budaj/Campbell can be over .850.

If Dean goes after a stop gap option in net, it's not going to be a goalie with term or making a significant amount of dollars.

He has to be frugal and look at a guy like Reto Berra. Someone who won't cost an arm and a leg, and an expiring (and affordable) contract.

believe it or not, bernmeister is here to your rescue!:amazed::amazed::amazed::amazed:

Raanta. 1m per 2 yrs
good enough to be Hank's backup
can ride him til Quick returns, keep or still deal for assets if you are solid enough for a backup

Ok, 3 options, fair value
picks
salary match
what Rangers want

picks 2nd and 3rd does not have to be same year
salary we add a lesser guy and you give us Tanner Pearson, 1.4m per 1 yr expiring
what NY wants

we need to move NMCs and have 2 in Girardi - no we are not going there - and Staal who is off to a good start and could be better w/out AV.

You currently have 3 guys who make the expansion protected list: Doughty, Muzzin, Martinez

Raanta 1 + Staal, 5.75 reduced to 3 = 4
for Martinez, 4m per
cap neutral
if reasonable a sweetener can be considered

We're not that desperate. :D

Fully expect the Kings to just run with Budaj honestly unless they can get a decent goalie that won't be much of a cap hit.

Budaj, although he has played in the league recently does have NHL experience and no he isn't a top goalie by any means, but he is a capable goalie and IMO is better than Zatkoff anyways.

I was checking Budaj stats, I didn't know he was the first Slovakian NHL goaltender to reach 100 wins.

Peter Budaj's NHL stats as of October 20th 2016

GP 297, Wins 125, Loses 107, T/OT 36, Min 16,406, GA 756, SO 11, GAA 2.76, SV% .903

Anyone know how long Zatkoff is going to be out. I can't see the Kings leaving Jack Campbell as the backup to Budaj for a long period of time in the NHL.

Campbell played in more regular season games in the ECHL then in the AHL last season, and was also horrible in the playoffs for the Texas Stars. The guy doesn't belong anywhere near the NHL, I can't see the Kings even letting him play unless Budaj also goes down to injury.

Kings should sign Karri Ramo or Ray Emery as a backup to Budaj for now.

I rather just roll with Budaj and re-sign Ray emery again as backup.

Not sure if serious.

Ray Emery was already the worst goaltender in the league 2 or 3 years ago, and hasn't played in the league at all in almost 2 years. Even with his fluke lockout season with the Blackhawks, he was the worst goalie in the NHL between 07-15. Not sure how he remained in the league for so many years (I know he was in Europe in 08-09). Lindback easily took the ''Worst goaltender in the league'' title after Emery stopped playing in the NHL. I think Gustavsson probably has that honor now.

Budaj might be the worst goalie to start a game in the league this year. I hesitate to call him the ''Worst goalie in the league'' as he's not really even a regular NHL goalie anymore, he's just here because of the injuries. It's pretty easy to see why he's washed out of the league though.

Budaj actually has found his game again and isn't who you think he is.

The last time that LA was hurting this badly for goaltending, they turned to Yutaka Fukufuji. It's that time again. It's a second chance to be the hero that he should've been (based on name alone) 10 years ago.

Kings start 0-3. Budja get two starts and LA gets two wins. Did just enough. I thought Budja outplayed Zatkoff in the preseason, but managment had already set their mind as too would be the back up. Lets ride with Budja. Worst case we get a high pick next year and best we get in the playoffs and Quick should be ready.

Are you kidding me?

He's exactly who I think he is, a non-NHL caliber goalie. He was a lot better in the shootout than I thought he'd be though, I'll give him that. He seemed to be a very good AHL caliber goalie last year too, just not for the NHL anymore. At least not in a regular backup role.

I do have a little sympathy for the guy, just because he washed out of the league a few years ago and now he's back in and has a shot at playing some games in the NHL that he otherwise probably would not have.

I thought the Kings absolutely won the game against Dallas in spite of him. It seemed like all 3 goals that game were bad. Puck handling error, bad stuff play goal, the game tying goal wasn't very good either against Dallas.

And while I don't think Quick is as good as some believe, nor do I believe he's nearly as bad as others on here believe, I don't see the Kings allowing nearly as many goals if Quick was healthy. There's always the chance that he might have had 5 pretty terrible games and started the season slow, but I think he would have done much better.

In Budaj's defense, Zatkoff was horrific against Minnesota. My friend who is a Kings fan was irate that he didn't get the hook after two 1st period softies.

I actually think Berra could be a decent option for the Kings. Low cost, both in terms of acquisition and AAV. He has some experience playing for injured starters, has improved each season in the league and is playing phenomenal in the AHL right now. I think he is a better goalie than Zatkoff to be completely honest.
