Zadina being in GR is no different than Nolan Stevens being in the AHL or any other AHL vet. No issue at all if he is there. AHL teams are not just development leagues, they are still trying to win games, and whoever is best for that will play.

I chuckled when fans thought he had trade value. He is a #6 pick bust. holland's parting gift. Of his lat last 9 first picks only 2 were worth a damn, Ras and Larkin. Yzerman was kind in his assessment. The guy was drafted for a single skill, shooting. He hasn't translated to the NHL. None of his other skills are NHL level. He isn't a solid passer, anyhting more than average skater, doesn't hit, isn't great on D and, worst of all, has no anticipation/hockey intelligence. Every game I see this guy play he struggles. He may as well be a player on the old slot hockey bubble games. That stick has been gripped so long they need to pry it out of his hands after every game. He doesn't need GR, he needs a Euro league.

Sad but true. If he’s not scoring goals, he’s pretty useless.

At times he reminded me of Perlini, when he would carry the puck into the zone, skate a circle behind the net, and then just do nothing. Or carry it until it's turned over, or a desperation shot on the goalie that had 100% vision and was squared off for. Even then, the shot location was very off most of the time. He's still young, chances are slim that he can redeem himself, but I wish him the best.

The Q has just won 4 straight Memorial Cups. The WHL hasn't won since 2014.

Yep. Not a fan of the Remparts coach of course but it's 4 in a row.
Maybe they could produce some guys that could actually accomplish something at the NHL level like Mackinnon or Kucherov. But no the Q sucks..OK.

So... Zadina gets to go down and hopefully be hungry. No one claimed you on waivers, you have an NHL contract for 2 more years. Do you want another after that or are you happy going back home? Go be motivated and be the first injury call up, we can wish. I do personally, still think he can be a useful player for a team somewhere.

That's really the thing, he's one of the stupidest players ever. Repeats the same mistakes SO many times, you gotta wonder how he even graduated from elementary school. Moore dropped to #19 in this draft because questions about his hockey IQ, and that kid has world class skating. Zadina should have dropped just as far.

But in the end, what sealed the deal is that he doesn't have the intensity, drive, and stamina to play at the NHL level for more than a few games. It showed after he came back from injury, a few good games then completely worthless.

He's gonna get bought out then sign for cheap with another team before heading to Europe. I think he'll do well in the AHL if he wants to, he's just one step too slow for the NHL.

He'll be in Europe before he plays full time in the AHL. Buy-outs coming.

I think he's trying to find a home in the NHL if he can, but mostly him/his agent are trying to get back home. (To Europe).

He Seems like a dude that's going to settle in the SHL, NL, Liiga, of even Possibly the DEL.

Like I said, I'm rooting for the kid. I eeally think we did him no favors and did a mind @#$% on him. He never fit the Blashill shit offense and they beat the 200 foot game into his head and even used it as bribery for ice time. That was NEVER his game. He was a pure shooting offence only player coming out and they f'd his mentality up so much you could see his ahole tighten up everytime he wanted to shoot. Someone brought up the hard squeeze on the stick, and I completely agree. He never seemed comfortable out there, just nervous he may make a mistake and lose ice time or be sent to GR.

Well, lets not even screw around with him now. Send him to GR and let him find his confidence and love for the game again. He is only 23 and how many 25, 26 year old guys have we given chances to? Let him play a lot of minutes at GR and then decide from there if he is fixable or not.

Not sure if you have forgotten his scouting report but he was lauded for his defense. He very much had a 200 foot game.

Defensively sound, he disrupts lanes and pressures the opposition to make hasty decisions; he is tenacious in pursuit of puck control and transitions up-ice naturally. All-in-all, Zadina can be categorized as both a two-way forward with a well-rounded game and a dominant offensive force. (Curtis Joe, EP 2018)

And yet if someone suggested he was a bust like a year ago...there was no shortage of Wings fans on here telling you how wrong you were. I know it's a fan forum and all that, so it's gotta be expected, but that crap keeps repeating. Going back to "Hudler is going to be a star" "Kronwall will replace Lidstrom" "Tatar and Nyquist will be the next Datsyuk and Zetterberg". It's funny when you see the same guys then talk about current prospects and the draft etc. and they still speak with the same 'authority' on things they're clearly incapable of analyzing objectively.

Hudler in a top 6 role had a top 10 scoring finish including some peripheral Hart votes. The Lidstrom, Z, Datsyuk replacement guys were always nuts.

I think Zadina makes for an interesting case study. I give full props to TZE for questioning from day one whether his offense would translate. He sticks out in my mind as the first Zadina bear. Personally, I think he can be better than what he has shown. He still manages to find some pretty good scoring opportunities, but even with a higher conversion rate he would still be a disappointment and at best a third liner. I don't see how he fits with this team moving forward.

A couple of observations:

1. He is limited athletically and it impacts his skating. He isn't explosive and he isn't very quick laterally. He has a very difficult time creating time and space with the puck as a result. He could hold onto the puck for days in Q with his above average puck skills. We probably should have questioned more whether he would be able to do the same at the NHL level given his other traits. Because he has below NHL average size, his brain needs to work overtime to compensate for the fact that his athleticism and skating are limiting. He needs to do more with the puck while having it less.

2. He just isn't that smart of a player, especially without the puck. He chases the play a ton and requires too much time with the puck once he gets it, to process everything that is going on around him and to make a decision about what to do with it. Perhaps if he was bigger this wouldn't be an issue. Perhaps the Q masked this issue more than people thought.

3. Next time some random poster makes some comment about how easy it is for a prospect to improve his skating or starts to rationalize skating weaknesses, think about Zadina. Explosiveness is king and it is very hard to find if you don't already have it.

To MTL: Zadina
To DET: Mike Hoffman
Zadina for Slafkovsky, both busts need change of sceneries.

Or maybe those other prospects need the ice time more for development than Zadina?

If Zadina scores more than Mazur that doesn’t diminish Mazur as a prospect. There are plenty of high scorers in the AHL that aren’t good NHLers.
pulkinnen, frk, come to mind...oh what could have been with frk

I never looked at it from this angle but I can definitely see it. Tries too hard to be a 200 ft guy when that's not his game.

At times he reminded me of Perlini
Very good comparison. Weirdly, I actually liked Perlini at times. I thought he did some things well, but literally no point production came from it. Felt he was snakebitten.

While some of this may be true you can't dump this on Blashill. Wth was he supposed to do? Let him not be responsible defensively with the HOPE he will be a sniper and make up for it?

So basically a POOR man's version of AA? The guy is not as good as well all hoped for, period. He has had injuries yes, but he also has zero confidence and scoring touch. He needs a sports psychologist if his own abilities rely on an opinion of a coach. This is the NHL!! No excuses dude.

You earn your opportunities and ice time. He didn't, therefore he is a bust for sure in terms of the expectations. The last remaining question is can he even remain in the NHL and that is very much in jeopardy as well. No team claimed him! This is alarming for a young player! No one wanted to trade for him. Why is that? Blashill been gone dude....
