Rumor: Zach Werenski rejected trade to Dallas with NMC

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Xenforo Cloud is upgrading us to version 2.3.11 on Monday July 20, 2026 at 12:00 AM PST. Expect a temporary downtime during this process. More info here
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
They could wait but Werenski loses value over time the closer he gets to UFA status. Now is the time to trade him. Because of his NMC they will never get fair value in return. Basically a futures package of young players with potential.

In a vacuum, yeah I agree.

But there are circumstances and nuances at play here. Columbus cannot cave, it'll be a hard road forward if they do.

Now isn't the time to take the futures package, even if it means short term pain

As a Penguins fan my whole life. I have grown to love and cherish the bitterness and jealousy of other fan bases. It brings me so much joy that posts like this should be read to me bed side to me while I sleep bringing a slumbering smile to my face.

It brings you joy to be an incompetent franchise that needs to draft a generational player every generation to be relevant?

Pretty low expectations, brother

If Chaykas refusal to add knies stop Toronto from having their best defense since I started watching hockey in the 80s then he needs to be fired into the sun before they even play a game.

is this fair? is this too much? I dunno how to properly value this one
Notice how there's nothing there that hurts to lose? That's how you know it's not landing Werenski.

If Knies isn't part of the return, they're honestly better off waiting a year. Let Werenski take his medicine.

Trading him and not getting the other team's best trade chip back not only destroys the credibility of your front office, but it sets a precedent that you'll take whatever you can if the player whines enough

I'm pulling for Columbus here. They deserve better
Lebrun said Werenski has very likely played his last game in CBJ

It's getting done this summer

The Flyers are dumb as shit and Werenski wouldn't waive for them, but they fittingly have far more ammo in the NHL-ready team-controlled-talent department than Toronto or Tampa can offer up. Womp womp.

Knies is real good. Moser is real good. But Knies and what? Moser and what?

Waddell probably gets fired for losing him as a UFA for nothing. He has no choice but to trade him. Something is better than nothing.
