So this screams he simply wants to be a Leaf. In that case CLB will take what Toronto gives them
Cowan and Danford are both first round picks who have had success in the minors. Not scraps but when a player has a NMC it might be the best you can do. There is no universe outside of the Harley trade where Columbus gets fair value. That Harley trade was vetoed. He'd get fired sooner for taking scraps in Werenski trade. Hes got 2 years left, its not a get this done now or never even if it would be nice to just see it done and move on
If Chayka gets him I'm building him a statute from my bare hands
If this goes through, in one summer we end up with a franchise winger, franchise defenseman and top pair defenseman. Literally transforms the franchise from a potential desolate state to a cup contender
Still think the package will be centered around knies if it happens but a Cowan+ Mccabe/OEL+ Danford+ TLK + a 1st or two would still be well worth it.You aren't getting Werenski without giving up McCabe or OEL. Based on Columbus's current roster, prospects, etc, I think they'd prefer OEL. Especially since he can play the right side and be traded later on fairly easily for a decent return (unless he regresses).
To be fair, because of this fiasco, Columbus might not have a choice. With only 2 years left on his deal, they might not get many better options.
OK? Cowan still would be horrible value and Columbus can't take an L on this trade. Either they need to get value or revisit next summer when his NMC becomes a modified NTC with 10 team list. With Marchenko leaving too, Cowan instantly becomes the best or 2nd best winger on that team….and that’s not me saying Cowan is a game breaker. That list of forwards is atrocious.
Odds are we aren’t getting him lol. But how sweet would it be.This would be absolutely unbelievable
Stop giving me so much hope

Yup don’t see how it’s possible if Tampa offers Moser. None of the Toronto pieces match that - other than Knies but even then it’s debatable
I'd all in Nylander as a 3rd piece alongside Knies and McKenna. There are 2 assets in the entire Toronto organization that Columbus would accept as the main piece for Werenski: Knies or McKenna. You're not getting Werenski for a package headline by freaking Ben Danford. McKenna is obviously not being traded, but Knies would absolutely be included.
I'm not sure it would be a ton on top of Knies, but there is simply no chance that a deal gets done without Knies being included. Columbus is better off just saying "we'll keep you and try to convince you to re-sign" than take something like Cowan, Danford, Robertson and a Colorado 1st for Werenski. Werenski hasn't asked for a trade.
Thank you Jesus for the modified NTC next year lolThe problem with that is if Toronto is the only place he'll go then it's far better for Columbus to wait until next year unless the Leafs really step up - In other words, they're not getting him at a discount because they're the only bidder.
The Jackets will likely get Knies ++ if he goes to the Leafs. As a leaf fan I refuse to believe as a team we'd be lucky enough for him to only want to be moved to Toronto. Without knies its likely Cowan+ TLK+ Danford+ McCabe + Hildeby+ 1st or two.OK? Cowan still would be horrible value and Columbus can't take an L on this trade. Either they need to get value or revisit next summer when his NMC becomes a modified NTC with 10 team list.
Which equals it out with the people that think he’s a #1 DI just said the same thing on the Leafs board and several posters vehemently disagreed.
Moser is grossly underrated over there.
I can see the argument for Knies over Moser, but it's based more on giving your fans something to cheer about (goals). Moser will win you games though. I would love Knies in TB, but wouldn't give Moser for him. Having a defenseman who can shut down other teams' best players night after night is just way too valuable.I just said the same thing on the Leafs board and several posters vehemently disagreed.

So TB doesn't have a #1D? Even though they had a very strong defense last year?Which equals it out with the people that think he’s a #1 D
The five Cups I’ve seen over my life, which are more championships than a lot of sports fans will see the whole of the teams they follow win over their lives. That drives them to bitterness, jealousy, and anger. Yes it gives me joy. A lot of it.It brings you joy to be an incompetent franchise that needs to draft a generational player every generation to be relevant?
Pretty low expectations, brother
If Werenski is forcing a Toronto trade then the return for Columbus will be underwhelming.I was going to ask what Werenski's deal is but it appears he just wants to go to TOR. Why not just come out and say it? Moving like this in the shadows isn't keeping your reputation pristine buddy
Oh no Waddell is definitely operating on the fringes here. He negotiated in bad faith with Dallas then tried to force Werenski into the trade. They obviously wanted Harley in return but apparently Dallas wasn’t even an option for Werenski.
My conspiracy theory brain says that if the leafs sign Bobrovsky he will force a trade to Toronto to play with his buddy Matthews and shiny new toy McKenna.

This trade is definitely happening before the season starts. He's gone. His contract changes to a modified NTC next summer. They will get much better offers for teams getting into a bidding war even for just a rental Werenski than a garbage package centered around Cowan.
My concern is if Waddell feels like he “has” to make the trade this summer. He doesn’t. Hold the line.
