Rumor: Zach Werenski rejected trade to Dallas with NMC

Soooo are we back to the Leafs being used in every trade bait for market manipulation?

TOR just trolled all 31 gms and did a whole media clownfiesta past 2-3 weeks with Knies just to f*** with everyone in losing their time throwing offers at them.

I feel like GMs will f*** with Toronto right back.

Said it from the start. Z might have just said unless we make some serious progress in the next two years I'm not gonna re-sign. That's a completely fair statement. If that's the case it's spiraled way out of control because of media.

Yeah I think thats what happened too. Its reported Matthews was saying the same shit after the Leafs season basically. But hes kinda walked it back since lucking into first overall, firing Berube and adding Raddysh.

Its a shame things have gotten to this point.

There is a line of thought where this makes sense.

- Waddell sees some of the prices being paid for talent these days, and wants to get a "pulse" on what Werenski's thinking much like Vancouver did with Hughes.

- Werenski (or likely agent) tells Waddell that he's probably not re-upping based on current team trajectory; and after the draft we can talk about where he'd be willing to go.

- Werenski pissed that this information leaks, making him look bad in Columbus; followed shortly by Marchenko doing similar (hurts the team).

- Werenski at some point conveys that if he's moving, he wants to stay in the East, or maybe he doesn't even get that far as to telling Waddell what he wants to do.

- Waddell, having not received any information other than "we'll talk about it after draft", trades him to Dallas.

The Leafs trolled the league by listening to offers on one of their players?

Chayka has never once said he is available and they want to trade him. This is all stemming from the fact that the previous idiot GM almost traded him at the deadline. That guy isnt here anymore.

So, it’s really up to Werensky. Does he accept a trade to Toronto? Imo if he does, the Leafs should try to keep Knies. He’s got a tool set that’s really rare. I’d offer up McKenna and hope CBJ bites on that.
Adding Werenski to the Leafs (have to more MR, obviously) without giving up a roster guy puts them back in the playoffs, don’t you think?

He made your medias say it on repeat for 3 weeks on how he was being shopped around and the Leafs wants a package of 1D 1Prospect 1pick for him if a team is willing to trade for him blablabla

All that don’t exist anymore because it didnt came out of the mouth of chayka? Buddy used every medias available to him, even SDPN were talking about him every videos with huge smile on their face. You can’t be that gullible my dude

Hockey media has called absolutely nothing the Leafs have done other than drafting McKenna and even then there were people pushing the narrative that they should take Stenberg.

I'm actually a closet Jackets fan from way back in the day. Really thought back in the day that Brassard/Zherdev was going to lead them to being a contender!

Just sucks when this type of thing happens. If you're a sports fan and can't empathize with another fan who get crotch-punched when a key player taps out after a decade of mostly futility, something is broken inside you (not you specifically - just some folks in this thread). I remember as a relatively young sports fans being told that Zhamnov was going to replace Roenick, and every guy who wanted to get paid was greedy and had to be shipped out. At least now it's not about money, and I think it's primarily about guys who (I believe) want a chance to win. I might not like the way that Larkin's camp went public (not sure how all the Werenski drama came to light), but I understand a guy who wants to win.
