(You've already have made up your mind about) Zack Bogosian

Like Polar, hes got low hockey iq + physical style of play so hes going to take a lot of dumb penalties throughout the season.

But I expect he will consistently improve how he fits into the Leafs system as we to on too

And if he doesn't, who really cares at the end of the day?

What are people really expecting of a player on a 1-year, almost league-minimum deal?

I'd love to hear it.
I’m not expecting much from a player making near league minimum and that is at the heart of the problem because as we all know due to the distribution of wealth on this team they will have to carry to many of that type of player

I would like to see Bogosian and Matthews do a switch of positions next game against the Habs when weber is out. The cross check on Matthews needs to be answered by Bogo. Weber turned his stick so he wouldn’t hit the protector. Could have broke Matthews up lots more.
I though it was mostly a disorganized game by everyone on the whole. That was a game we didn’t deserve to win and did. There will be games we will deserve to win and lose. I’ll snicker all day with the two points.
Next time Simmonds might not hold back against big Chiarot. I liked it that he did but if he keeps cheap shotting our guys in the paint, Simmonds and Bogo both will come calling again. Nice to have that element in the lineup right from the start of the season.
Nice win, not a well played game for most part by our guys. Willy was just pinpoint last night.
I’m feeling bad for Bogo today haha, he struggled or the game just didn’t go his way more like it.
Absolutely no concern with the big dude. He’s a gamer.

Bogosian wasn't great but he also wasnt that bad. The 2nd penalty called on him was very soft.

He's exactly the type of defenseman the leafs lack in the back end. Give him some time to get adjusted and he will. Tampa played him for a reason

No matter how you want to slice it, the expectations on a 6/7 d by some on here is ridiculous. It doesn’t matter what he’s paid. He could be polak making 2.5 and your gripe would then be he’s paid too much. It’s the same for depth forwards. Not everyone is a star. That’s the point

The good thing out of it, our elite core can score their way out of problems created by 6/7 D which has been shown over time. Used to be a time where that was not the case. Every game.

I think Bogosian will figure it out. As new addition, it's normal to have some hiccups. Granted the two penalties were stupid to take, but he will prove over time to be very useful in situations. Patience is key.

Very good teams have a very good PK. The Leafs will need their PK to step up, when their muscle and grit step up for the boys.

He needs to be utilized intelligently to maximize his effectiveness. Last year he was both a washout on a bottom feeder and a guy who could play on the top pairing on a Stanley Cup run, so mileage will vary dramatically. I think the right matchups will require a Bogosian like presence, but by no means is he going to be a minute munching all situation guy you can just throw out there.

Cut him.
2 penalties from being slow and dumb. 1 penalty from being dumb and shooting the puck into the leafs bench as they were changing.

when the puck gets on his stick he takes forever to make a decision and by the time he does someone is on him so he either gives the puck away or indirectly does by passing it to nobody.

he’s like a slower, dumber Polak

I think you are confusing him with another player who shot the puck into the Leafs bench for the Too Many Men penalty.

Tomorrow is another day.

I wasn't at all impressed with Bogosian last night, but I really don't know him from Adam and haven't formed a judgment on him.

Not only that, I'm sure he's a much better hockey player than I am a judge of hockey talent -- no matter how good or bad he is in comparison to his peers.

Despite that, I was still wondering where the hell he was while Tavares covered his man on the fourth Montreal goal. I did not enjoy that moment of play.

Were you expecting to be impressed by a 6th d man who makes league min?

He should have value during playoffs and a great depth option to change the complexion of the units. Works for me.

I thought I might find him somewhere on the ice when his partner and Tavares were getting beaten on a third-period goal. He was nowhere in sight. Yes, that surprised me.

Show me someone who can?! Clearly my statement was based on him being on the ice.

This is the long game... I really don't care what he does in the 56 game regular season.
Well that’s silly, I mean not just bogo, but for anyone, consistently making poor decisions through 56 could be the reason they only play 56 this year

I like him and think he should stay in the lineup. We have enough finesse, we need more grit. Sure he’s not the best guy at moving the puck up the ice, but he’s the exact guy you want clearing the front of the net, stopping the cycle, killing penalties, etc. We need guys like him and i know I’m going to be on here defending him all year.

if he could perform that role somewhat effectively you wouldn't have to defend him , unfortunately he can't

he was a tire fire in Buff and only played with Hedman when they dressed him so that Hedman could cover for him

problem is we don't have anyone to fill the role so he'll probably be in and out of the lineup this year and then the team will let him walk in the offseason

He is quite literally one of the best penalty killers in the league. Its not that he doesn't fill the role, its just that's what comes with having a player like him. It was the exact same complaints when the leafs had Polak and then when he left people were complaining we didn't have enough toughness on the backend.

people are complaining we don't have enough toughness throughout the lineup and it wasn't the fans who limited Bogo to 10 mins last night

That’s not what I asked you

Its too early to be all over Bogosian. Its been one game. Whether anyone liked his game or not, there's really not enough there to come to any conclusions unless you're already very familiar with his play, which I'm sure most of us are not.

Absolutely! Don't judge him on 1 game!
Judge him on the roughly 644 nhl games played.
Next game will be different, right?

I don't really follow others teams very much and know very little about Bogosian.

I would rather watch him and form my own opinions based on what I see rather than on what others say.

I'm pretty sure the next game will be different. They all are. That's why they play them.

I think in a playoff series against a Boston or Columbus type team, when the refs decide they're not going to call any penalties...a guy like Bogosian becomes valuable.

But as an everyday regular season player? A lot less valuable.

It was just a scrimmage but damn I liked what I saw from Liljegren that day.
