(You've already have made up your mind about) Zack Bogosian

Surprisingly been effective and mostly error free. Brought an element that was needed too.

Back in 08, I was pissed when Bogo was drafted at the 3 spot by Atlanta because he was the 2 way guy I wanted to fall to us at 5. I knew we had no shot at Stammer, Doughty or AP since they were projected to go top 3 most likely. We ended up with Luke Schenn and I convinced myself that it was okay to have a guy with a similar skillset albeit a little slower and a little dumber. Over the years, I regretted us drafting Schenn but the blow was softened as Bogo wasn't really establishing himself as a big-time defender that I thought he'd turn out to be. I was super hyped last year when Buffalo let him go and we were rumored to have interest in him, I felt like 12 years later we'd finally land the guy I've wanted for so long and when he signed with us this season, I was beyond happy. Bogo isn't a superstar and probably won't ever be a stud top 4 guy but at his age and with his experience in the league, he's a very good bottom pairing guy who just needed a fair shot on a half-decent team.

I think he chose us after all this time because he's had a very mediocre career after being a highly-touted prospect and his best years as a hockey player came playing for the Petes. Being so close to Toronto, he probably enjoys the familiarity and comfort of being close to his OHL stomping grounds. I hope we can keep him with us for a while.

He's been my favorite Leaf this year. Over the moon happy with this signing!

I can't believe your coach is playing this guy instead of Liljegren, Lehtonen (one of my favourite d) and co.

Bogo was the dumbest player on the team night in, night out for the Sabres. He refused to take any kind of responsibility for his own play and showed a terrible attitude when he was scratched.

With Liljegren and the others you at least give players with potential to be good some ice time. Bogo is an ok 7th d on his good days, on his bad days he will lose you games.

Some typical Bogo stuff: drifting out of position ending up on the wrong side of attackers, deciding to chase players away from the play, taking 15 seconds to pass and then icing it, softly pushing and showing other players butts in an effort to intimidate...

I think he played quite uninspired hockey with the Sabres and while I don't fault you for having the perception of him being a terrible player (which he 100% was with the Sabres), I think he's fit in well so far with the Leafs and was a decent player on the Bolts last year. Playing on a team with good offensive players takes a ton of pressure off of guys like Bogosian who are at their best defending and dumping pucks off with quick passes to forward who can take it up the ice. So far, he's looked fantastic. Played a very simple and effective game and hasn't had any glaring issues since the first game where he took a couple of dumb penalties and made a few bad/ rushed plays.

Even his passing looks better. Hes no puckmover and never will be but has enough self awareness to his game that he needs to distribute the puck as quick as possible with a short simple pass

Love big BOGO
Wanted him and we got him

Never understood why people didn't like him.

Plays within his means a simple game.

Same with Brodie

Great dman for our young defenceman to learn from.

Simple game. Nothing fancy. Boxes out the front of the net like a beast. Blocks shots. Wears out other teams with his heavy frame. What's not to like so far

He's no Marc Bergevin though. :sarcasm:

Bergevin has made plenty of mistakes, but I give him credit for the job he did this past off season. We'll see if it lasts, but the Habs appear to be a markedly improved team, and easily our biggest threat within the division.

It's nice that he is smart enough to know his limits and not try a high risk play when moving the puck, but he also has the poise and ability to not just ice the puck when under duress.

Toffoli and Andersen who have totaled 15 of their 44 goals so far this year are shooting a whopping 21% combined while being low teen career shooters. It's nice that they've feasted on the Oilers and Canucks more so than any of our depth guys have but when that offense comes down to earth, the wells are gonna go dry for the Habs. Their defense has been pretty bad this year too. Just managing to outgun everyteam.

not as good as Brodie, but another confident player that doesn't panic under pressure at all.

with enough mobility and hands for his size to make it work very well on a bottom pair.

I've changed my mind on Bogosian. He looks good in his role. When he has the puck in the defensive zone, I don't have anywhere close to the same desire to vomit generated from the certainty that he's going to give it away as it was when Polak et al were in the same position.
