Ahh nevermind then

There is a world where Swayman ends up in WPG in some crazy PLD deal. I just can’t figure it out without making the team notably worse than moving Ullmark.

I feel like Pittsburgh and Carolina may be the only teams not within the Bruins division that would have significant interest in Ullmark and have the cap space to be able to take him on without sending money out.

I honestly don’t think the division stuff would prevent an Ullmark trade but who knows.

5M is a pretty low cap hit for Ullmark, but there’s not many teams who can afford it without sending salary back to Boston.

LA needs a goalie, but we, like most teams don’t have the cap.

Would need a third team like Philly or Chicago to retain 2.5M for two years.

Forsberg + 2nd + 4th + rights to Watson ?

For

Ullmark + rights to Frederic

They get a 1b goalie at half the cost and can sign Watson <1mil to replace Frederic who is pricing himself out of Boston.

If truly needed the 4th can go to a 3rd team to retain on Forsberg.

I know Swayman is good, but it probably wouldn't be smart to have him as your only option Bussi or Dipietro as the backups does not seem like the best idea.

Agreed but they will hit up the scrap pile as their backup to Bussi. Go get a Kinkaid like they did last year or maybe a non-tendered Blackwood sees Boston as a place to boost numbers. Or whatever. It just not something that should dilute the return.

What about

Canes: Arvidsson or Iafallo
Kings: picks and prospect

Kings: Ullmark
Bruins: Roy, 2nd, 3rd

From LA's perspective, I don't think we can do that. Roy is awesome. Gets better every year. I think we'll look to extend him.

Doesn't Boston need forwards anyways? According to CapFriendly Bruins only have 7 NHL forwards under contract.
If I am Boston I am trying for Turcotte. Obviously big bust potential there but Bruins need lottery tickets to scratch and hope they get lucky on.
Kings might be open to that. We have a lot of young forwards with upside who need a change of scenary.

We'd still need someone to retain Ullmark's cap hit though.

Bruins need cheap ELC forwards.

XXX Zacha Pastrnak
Marchand Bergeron DeBrusk
Hall Coyle Frederic
Lauko XXX XXX

Gryz McAvoy
Lindholm Carlo
Zboril XXX
XXX

Swayman
XXX

That's the Bruins roster if they buyout Forbort and Reilly, deal Ullmark, Bergeron comes back and they re-sign Swayman, Frederic and Lauko for market value. All those XXX would need to be filled with ELC/vet minimum types... DeBrusk can play both wings and Zacha can play all three forward positions... but there is a top 9 spot there that is empty.

To Ottawa: Linus Ullmark and the rights to Trent Frederic
To Boston: OTT 2nd 2024 + OTT 2nd 2025 + OTT 4th 2023 + Lassi Thomson + Pick/Prospect (Team X)
To Team X: Anton Forsberg

Quantity over quality from the Bruins perspective maybe. Nukes the rest of Ottawa's picks for the next 3 seasons but Dorion has this core/team pot committed anyways so might as well take it all the way and fill the teams biggest remaining hole.

Kupari (1st round pick) C, W
Grundstrom (2nd round pick) W
Anderson-Dolan (2nd round pick) C, W
Kaliyev (2nd round pick) W
Turcotte (1st round pick) C, W
Andersson (1st round pick) C, W

We have lots of forwards with upside that may need a change of scenery and would have low cap hits.

Kaliyev is probably a 20 goal scorer right now but he can't get an opportunity in the lineup because we have too many forwards. So his value would be more than the others.

Andersson is kind of a reclamation project. He's been great in the AHL though.

Anderson-Dolan is the sneaky good one IMO.

Bruins don’t need a goalie back

Who will partner with Swayman?

That's why I thought the Pens and B's would be great trading partners: Pens are one of the few teams with a G need AND cap space to absorb Ullmark. Figured the Pens would send back Casey DeSmith (a cheap backup who outplayed his contract)

14 Overall pick plus DeSmith for Ullmark?

Something cheap like DeSmith is fine, but not looking for a sexy goalie that is viewed as a valuable part of the offer.

I would counter with Ullmark + Frederic for Pinto instead of the hodge podge.

The fact that the picks are a year or two out is unfortunate. Getting two seconds instead of a first for Ullmark isn't crazy, but having to wait lowers the value.

Bruins don't need to move Frederic if they move Ullmark so at that point the team would be looking for full value for Frederic. Don't see how moving Frederic to replace him with an AHLer to save a 1.5 million helps the Bruins if they don't need to save that 1.5 million anymore.

Good idea but not enough

I would want Ostapchuk or Krieg with those picks. Sens can keep Lassi
