Tarin smith for Anaheim(think we had him like 20th), looks like top 10, might even flirt with top 5 at end of season.

Didn't make a list for the year, but biggest climber is AJ Spellacy who is now easily top ten in a deep bunch. Also, Sacha Boisvert has been defying the fanbase's pessimistic expectations, and Nolan Allan has fared well so far in his NHL stint.

I think he’s a little overrated overall because he’s playing in the NHL (well, not really playing right now). He’s gotten caved so far. He’d be in the AHL by now if he wasn’t big, and probably will be in another week or two. He’s not NHL ready. Needs a year in the AHL. Next year I think he could be a bottom pair defensemen. Has a ceiling of maybe a 4.

And you gotta consider that those others are younger than him. Garand is doing a decent job in the AHL, and likely is the NHL backup next year. Yeah, Mancini got some NHL games earlier, but their NHL ETA is pretty much the same, if you go by when they should be in the NHL (25-26). And Garand is younger and I think has the chance to be at least a 1B type, which I’d classify as more important than a 4-6 defenseman. Emery is 4 years younger than Mancini and a first round pick. I don’t think he has like extremely high upside, but maybe a little higher and a much better pedigree.

Yep, Beck I'd put on par with Roy, maybe a bit below. Mesar I'd have just out of the top 10, I don't really see him developing into an NHLer at this point

For MN, Bankier and especially, Peart, have failed to impress early on. I might replace them with Haight and either Kiviharju or Milne(just called up). Others who are impressing early on are Pionk and Jimmy Clark.

Marat is already a regular and doesn't look out of place.

spellacy is an animal. love how he plays the game, and he's still pretty raw.

Guys like gauthier, luneau, zellweger I’d consider graduates(or essentially graduated) So overall our top 10 prob looks weak.


Another prospect that is doing well for us is Sam colangelo…. Currently has 6 goals and 10 points in his AHL rookie season. Lot of people felt he could have made the nhl roster

Harrison Brunicke would have made the team out of camp as an 18 year old D man if not for Karlsson returning from injury. He was consistently the best player on the ice throughout the preseason. Easily in the Pens top 3 now with McGroarty and Blomqvist.

Poltapov is probably the biggest mover due to his season thus far in the KHL. 7-9-16 in 23 games with nearly no PP time and being a PK regular is some quality development IMO.

He's been on a tear but he would only jump 2 spots since I already had him rated higher than most.

I'm not the Caps fan you quoted (I didn't post my own top 10 over the summer) but I'll throw these out. (I mostly agree with Carlzners Caps list, though I'd quibble with Funk being where he is.)

-Cristall may have moved up into that top tier with Miro and Leonard.
-Iorio has reportedly stepped up his game, playing increased, and more important, minutes in Hershey, looking more and more like a solid NHL caliber d-man.
-The big name new to the list would be Ilya Protas, with 18 points in 14 games as an 18 year old in his first season in the OHL. Most importantly, he reportedly looks to have the skill to support those numbers.
