He deserves some heat, this fatalistic attitude regarding goaltending is bizarre. Look at what say Detroit did: sign Reimer and Lyon, roll three goalies. There were options other than sit on your hands.

I want to know what Winnipeg wanted for Helle.

It sucks the Bruins wouldn't trade swayman. He'd be perfect age wise and cap wise.

Fitz is equally to blame. I loved (mostly) everything he did pre extending Ruff, but he's losing me. He decided that we didn't need goalie upgrades, and he keeps Vanecek as an option to be played, as well as the guy behind the bench who chooses to play him. If we are playing sub .900 goalies, what is that if not a direct message that we are not trying to win. Why are we trying at all then, let's just tank for higher draft picks until we decided to actually get a real goalie.

The personnel as a whole on defense is not good enough it’s becoming clear. We won’t compete for a cup and maybe not even for a playoff spot this year without a major rebuild on the back line. I’m taking maybe 3 of the six current guys being upgraded.

Islanders owners 2/3 of the expected goals tonight. So if you believe in the xG stat then you should probably feel the Islanders are dominating the Devils at 5 on 5 tonight.

Getting outplayed shouldn’t automatically mean “down by multiple goals after 2”. If we don’t heavily carry play or score on every PP, we lose. Vitek stood there watching us dominate for 60 mins last game and still managed to give up 2.

Fitz is one of the best GM's in the league and criticizing him constantly on the goaltending based off of this off-season is simply not understanding the goaltending market and what was available this summer.

I was fine rolling with these two guys going into the season but then again I’m not paid to be the judge on that and don’t know the inner workings. Fitz is and should’ve seen this coming make a team ah offer they can’t refuse for a goalie

If you have bad defensive personnel then I think the Devils should run a scheme that encourages simple defense with less reads instead of one of the complicated schemes in the league that requires constantly making good reads.

I agree the coaching is god awful as to that. Agree completely.

I don't think either were realistic options. Hart was available and PHI probably never trades him to NJ. Really the only realistic option imo was signing a castoff guy and hoping he'd get hot, being able to send Schmid to the AHL or waive Vanecek if it came to it.

There are goaltending solutions that hurt more than help to be sure, and I guess I give Fitz some credit for avoiding those "solutions."

Also goalie’s fault that the third goal was preceded by McLeod throwing an unforced lazy blind weak lob right back to an islander at the blue line, one of numerous lazy sloppy u forced errors in the game and that have happened all season.

Ruff needs to go, but not for Travis Green. Fitz or Harris need to go downstairs Steinbrenner style and not allow him to keep playing Vitek.

Vitek is psychologically checked out.

I felt more confident with 2018 to 2020 Schneider in net.

Yeah, it’s been over for him since games 1 and 2 of the Rangers. He’s not coming back from that here.

I’m pretty sure he’d play better behind the Sharks or Canadiens than he will here. He’s done here.

I agree to a point but why are other teams able to survive mistakes without their nets being filled?
