Jack is so good he papers over how bad the breakout is. Every 3-4 shifts he breaks out all on his own and skates through 3 guys. Everyone else fails most of the time but Hughes lets it not snowball.

I don’t think it’s that simple. Teams try to cover Hughes which opens things up for other lines. Other lines get clears at a decent rate when Jack is playing.

How many years now has it been now since this team collectively played hockey the right way, doing the little but important details on D and managing the puck and the game responsibly? Even last year...they basically got away with not having to do that because they dominated puck possession so much and being able to score tons of goals.

Guys we just need another goaltender...no not that one another one...no not that one either one more...OK I was wrong the next guy should be it...Devils just have the worst goalie luck in history they all suck...go get a different one...one more...ok one more we should be good...none of these guys are even average enough for us get another one with better stats on a team that plays good D that next guy is gonna come here and do fine...
