Minnesota has 5 good D to protect for expansion.

Trading any 1 of them makes no sense, because then you still lose any one of the remaining 4 to the draft, leaving them with 3.

The best thing they can do is bite the bullet, keep everyone, protect Suter - Dumba - Spurgeon, and expose 2 LHD in Brodin - Scandella. Then you still have a solid top 4 heading into next year no matter what.

I think Brodin is more important to the team than Dumba. In reality, they can do 8+1.
Move or buy-out Pominville and get Koivu to waive his NMC. Protect Niederreiter, Parise and Coyle with the 5 defensemen.

Hate to do this but Nylander straight up. We have a glut of RW with similar up side and while he could be our second line centre we already have that in Kadri. As Nylander is still on his ELC, maybe a slight add on Minny part. I know you said one for one but just saying.

Question is how is his hockey IQ and Defence if he is already top 4 with the chance top be maybe a #2 then its a pretty fair trade.

Benning is that you?

Someone tell me what his play has been like? Was a fan at his draft time, but haven't seen much of him this year.

Is he an upgrade over D. Orlov?

Caps might consider Burakovsky going the other way as he's having an off year. Would be a nice buy low opportunity for Burt IMO.

Our Gm is on record saying that they're going to do the 7+3+1 but who knows if that's changed.

Brodin is more important, and if this year was considered to be a "tryout" for the defensemen not named Suter as far as protection goes, I'd say that Scandella and Dumba would be left out as of today.

He wouldn't play ahead of Klefbom, Larsson, or Sekera so why give up the Oilers only top 6 RW

Brodin is better than Sekera and Klefbom. Regardless, you guys wouldn't be able to protect everybody.

Unless he plans on moving 2 defensemen or just losing 1, it doesn't make sense. Your defense is much more valuable than your forwards.

Assuming what you said is true (I disagree, but whatever), whatever your top 4 combinations would be, Brodin would be your 4th "top 4" defenseman, playing on the right side of either Klefbom or Sekera.

I think that they've accepted the fact that they are going to lose one, so right now, it's just a matter of which ones that they are willing to risk. Based on what I've seen so far this year, Brodin and Spurgeon are the ones that wouldn't want to risk losing for nothing. The other two, I'm unhappy about it, but eventually get over it.

Updated the OP with players listed so far. Left out less than 0.5 point per game AHL players that were offered.

Zuccarello?

This ^.
we are not moving the youngest core pieces, Vesey, Miller etc
would have gone with Stepan for Dumba +, but RW and 1 for 1 specified

Zuc straight is closest
would prefer to add 2 Ranger 2nds for a Wild 1st also, to balance, but
I could live with 1 for 1

However, while Zuc seems to be the top end of offers for Dumba (as to offers that could be considered reasonably offered, not Nylander)
it is not clear
Zuc does not command more

also this would force us to buy out Girardi in advance of the exp draft, no options, and the $ is not a big whoop, but we haven't done that because of the cap hit short term impact.

However, that is the best 1:1 fit NY has

There is just something about Eberle that makes him so unlikable. Pass.

seems soft on D
not the worst skater, but not great, let alone elite speed and hands either.

Also Ebs-RNH got completely killed in the last game by Granlund-Koivu. Scoring chances went 15-3 when Koivu starts 75% on D-zone. Zero chance for that trade happening.

Getting outplayed by Jason Pomminville in 2016... Now there is an achievement.

Actually, Pominville is playing better than I've seen in a long while. Yes, he is overpaid, but he is no longer useless. Maybe playing less minutes saves his legs and allows him to be more effective.

I don't think Eberle has the size and physicality to be of interest to Boudreau, and his mediocre two way game isn't going to fly on the Wild... or not at a 6M/yr. salary.

Let me see, Dumba at 2.5/yr. or Eberle at 6M/yr.? For a capped out team like the Wild, it's not really much of a decision. In the past we would've tried to finagle Poms into the deal, but I'd rather have him and Dumba than Eberle anyday.

Value is probably not sufficient on the PIT end, so don't attack me, but maybe a deal like Sprong for Dumba? Sprong is a high risk-high reward RW prospect, Pens have too many RW and need RHD.
