For sure, I'm not blaming him on that one / those ones. It's when he stops it an "apparently" has control of it, but then drops it on the doorstep for a melee to ensue.

Ohh okay my bad dude, just with all these people jumping all over him about that third goal I figured it was that one you meant. My apologies.

So? I'm sure there are players on the Hawks side with better shootout numbers than Kane, Toews and Panarin.

You win or lose with your best players. Holland is barely an NHL player.

It's still hardly anything to complain about. He also made a great move but Darling actually made a save. Babcock went with a player that has been good in this previously. Hardly the problem tonight.

How 'bout how we got to the shootout in the first place? This is what the discussion should be. Not who we deployed to shoot.

Put the struggling Kadri line out as well as ****ING HUNWICK AND POLAK to defend a late game lead so much.

Babs... why the **** do you love Hunwick so much... or does he have compromising photos... seriously, blink twice if Hunny Boo Boo is holding you against your will or something.
On the tying goal, it was Bozak, Marner and Hyman wasn't it?

I can't believe this fanbase is freaking out. There seems to be three camps of Leafs fans:

1) Those who thought that the Leafs were going to win 75 games, and be a playoff team (50%)

2) Those who said "yeah, they are going to be pretty bad because they are young, there are going to be a lot of rookies learning the NHL game, and some many new pieces that it is going to take 20 games or so to see what we have (5%). Also, our defence is horrendous".

3) Point #2, but with a "jklol I was just kidding. We're a Cup contender" at the end (45%).

My thoughts about the game:

- Andersen played well. Kept us in it, especially in OT.
- Marner needs to work on his defence. I saw some posters praising his defence game tonight. For example, he should have got the puck out that lead to the tying goal. But people are blind 'cause #OHLJesus. I am actually a Marner fan (inb4 the Church of Marner followers).
- Thews, Nylander, Marner, Nifty Mittens, hell, even Bozak or JVR. Nope. Peter moddafrickin Holland in the shootout.
-Dammit Hunwick.

babcocks downfall with the fan base is going to be hunwick. I see people slowly turning on him, I give him about 30 games until I start turning on him if hunwick and polak are still his main pieces. If we are growing our rookies why not call up dermott and nielsen? I mean we are losing already so might as well let all the young guys grow with the team.

both polak ad hunwick played over 22mins this game..... hunwick even left for several minutes for concussion protocol....
the hot line of nylander and matthews didnt play much either, just over 14 for willy and just over 15 for matthews..

Hunwick is very overrated. Zaitsev is far better in one-on-one battles. He proved it against elites in the world cup and yet we're using this dinosaur.

Rielly, yes, isn't a strong defensively. That doesn't mean that we should be solely reverting to obsolete veterans.

What? I don't think anybody rates him, like, at all. How can he be over rated?

On the positive side, if this squad had more experience we could very easily be 5-0 right now. Good things to come in the future. Sucks that we blew another lead but there's still some positives to take out of this game. Nylander + Matthews played extremely well again too.

So what exactly would you consider growing pains? We have a yung team full of players who do not know how to play defense well enough yet. So when the opposing team really turns it on in the late stages when they are down we cant handle it. That is exactly what I would expect form a young rookie team.

Losing or being outclassed.

They are not "losing" as much as they are blowing games which is entirely different than facing teams, being dominated and losing 3-1, 4-2, 5-2 etc.

The goalies need to make saves, the old D needs to do something and Babcock needs to be better.

Again, they're not being outclassed, they are mentally collapsing for very small periods of time.

There is a lot to be proud of, but simultaneously this team honestly could've won every single game of the year with a few better decisions, a bit better D or a bit better goaltending.

We had 69 points last season. We are on pace for 82.
Matthews/Nylander are on pace for mighty strong seasons as rookies.
Marner is looking very strong and he's not even as strong physically as the other two yet.
Andersen has been showing stretches of big saves every game. It will come together.
Lou will fix the D, it's obvious to them all.

What's the problem. Growing pains but things are moving along just fine.

Andersen needs to stop a ****ing puck. The 3rd goal was a textbook back-breaker. The Leafs were cruising along. They were handily outplaying the Hawks in the 3rd. That's not a team set to choke away a 2-goal lead. But what happened? Andersen kicks a juicy rebound into the slot and it's a one-goal game. Everybody and their mothers knew what was about to happen next. This is a team that is coming off three blown leads in 4 games including a spectacular blowup against Winnipeg. They're rightfully jittery and the goaltender just took away their margin of error with a flub. To be clear, there's lots of blame to go around... Rielly should have tied the guy up, Marner tried to blow the zone, Babcock putting his two worst defensemen on the ice, Babcock putting Holland in the shootout, but at some point, the buck stops with the goalie. He's giving up one or two weak goals per game and 4 or 5 goals total. That's not acceptable. We could get Vesa Toskala to put those kind of numbers up.

The positive in this all is the Leafs have had leads to even blow. Last year that didn't happen. Needed the lead first.

Eventually these leads will turn into consistent wins. It takes time. Expecting them to win the majority of their games right away isn't the best frame of mind.

Exactly!! Honestly its all these peoples own faults for having unrealistic expectations of a team. Now that's not to say it doesn't absolutely suck to blow all those leads, all im saying is that with as young a team as we have you have to expect it.

Anyone who has ever played the game at a reasonable level understand how much the opposing team turns up the level of play when they are down late. We have a team that is not good at playing defensive hockey. So when the opposition turns it on we end up being exposed much more, its common sense people.

It just adds to the very average decisions he has been making. Matthews line has 2hoals and then didn't get back out for a while, hunwick is relied on far too much when defending a lead he shouldn't be on the team and then holland the 4th line centre to open the shootout
